If i were to hand the controls of the Gran Turismo Series Center over to you, what would you do to improve it? Or would you leave it as it is?

Or if you don't want to play this game, basically what can i do to improve it? No matter how radical the idea.

Like should i get forums for the site? Should i make the track records etc pages like those at Racing-line? Should i go for paid hosting so the banner ad disappears (i hope to do this eventually anyway) etc.

Feel free to download any page of the site onto your computer to modify it if you want.

The things i'm not happy with about it:
1. The banner ad.
2. The small text size (but if it is any bigger it just looks messy).
3. The poll (i want to make my own like i made my own feedback form, but i can never get it to work). The current one is too big & ugly.
4. Very long task to update (every single page has to be updated individually every update - with 45 pages and growing...).
5. Picture quality (although that is more to do with my camera).
6. Picture size (again they are small because they look better, but also because it saves bandwidth - i'd ideally have much bigger, better quality pics).
7. No forums for them.
8. Not as many submission/visits as i'd like.
9. Still not terribly happy with the look of it.
 
Yeah i looked at drop down boxes but they were just too messy. I agree though, it is too long already (getting longer too).

That Javascript thing is sort of like what i want, but it's not as advanced.
What i want is something where you have all the subcategory names and to open them you just click anywhere on the word and a menu will drop down.

i.e.

And after clicking somewhere on GRAN TURISMO;

Sort of like the one you gave the link to but, i think, a little more advanced.
 
ditch the ad

space your sidebar text out a bit better, it looks cluttered because it's one big unbroken lump of text

consider splitting the sidebar into two smaller sidebars, right and left. you could have say, gt1-5 on the left hand side, and the poll and everything below and including contributors on the right

change the colors. red against blue with pale text isn't exactly easy on the eyes. choose a color theme that is both relaxing to the eye, consistent with all the other colors on the page, and can use a (single?) contrasting feature to break up the text. this forum is a good example

you're sposed to use scripting includes to make pages easy to modify
you make one sidebar (or two), one heading, and a heap of sub-pages
then for your index, you do something like "include heading, include sidebar, include main", clicking on a link brings up a page that has "include heading, include sidebar, include page"

that being said, my webpage uses not alot of these features, and i still think it looks readable. then again, mine's more of a simple minimalistic webpage than a huge dynamic content thing like you want to make

alot of pages are just a forum, then build on the rest later. alot do it the other way round. focus on making one good thing at once, rather than a whole lot of poorly executed ideas. making a popular webpage isn't easy

I like the new design better. The red background starts to burn into your retinas after a while. Blue is easier to look at.
 
Get rid of the teeny font - it's stylish for a trendy "web design" site, but should be avoided by a content-driven site at all costs. Only use it for minor page elements which are not of great importance. Make it as easy as possible for the user to see what you want them to see.

How about this one? Its got the categories and the click anywhere functionality you want. You can also change the colors to match your design quite easily.
 
I'll try it, might take up a bit of room though. :)

Page has been updated with new look (bigger text) and new logo.
VTGT07, i tried inserting that new links menu thingy but it really mucked everything up and because i didn't make a copy of the page i had to re-do it from scratch.

I invite someone else to do it?

Also, how easy would it be to insert something in which stops the need of updating every single page every update?

Damn man .. sorry to hear that. I'll see if I can work something up and if it works I'll post it back here.

edit:
I figured out what the alignment problem was you were having when you inserted the menu code. Somehow the menu code was mucking up the percentages you had set for the width and if you change them to pixel values the alignment is fixed.

However, I have not been able to figure out what the problem is with the menu. I've tried putting the menu code itself in a dummy html document and it still doesn't work. So I'm thinking there's something wrong with the menu code itself and since I don't know Javascript I can't debug it and fix it. I've tried snarfing the code that creates the menu on the page from the page source, that doesn't work. I've tried using both FireFox and MSIE (which it says it works for on the site), both to no avail. I've tried hosting the file and that, sadly, did not work either. I did notice a few bugs glancing over the code, there was a forgotten semi-colon and something else, so I fixed those and yes, you guessed it, it STILL does not work. I have no clue whats going on with this, it should work.

I might convert the site over to the new look before the next update, so is there anything else anyone can think of that needs done to it?

Oh, and maybe an e-mail to the people who made that code would help? They probably aren't aware that it doesn't go. Maybe.
 
Okay, site is all converted to the new design (i forgot how much i loathed converting the site :() and will be online next update (which hopefully won't be too far away).
 
It'd be much easier for you if you new codes like CSS for changing color schems and stuff, hell, I have one line of PHP that I have saved in a text document so I can remember it - <?php readfile("filename.txt"); ?> - it saves me a hell of alot of time when updating contents and stuff, just these simple little things can cut your updating time down dramatically.
