I have Windows 7, the game is Lotus Challenge from 2002 (I know, not a great game but I picked it up for next to nothing)

Runs OK visually but for some odd colours/shading though that might be just the game, however there is sound for the Kuju Software splash screen then the game logo comes up with a sort of whoosh which cuts off, then nothing.

Going by videos on Youtube, there should be SFX for the menus, then of course in the game itself, as well as some speech (I can open the disc and play the speech WAVS independently)

I've tried Win98, Win2000 and WinXP compatibility modes to no avail, does anyone else have any quick tips on how I might get the sound working?

Has anyone ever marketed a kinda universal emulator for older Windows-based games? Seems a no-brainer to me even if it restores compatibility with only some games, which could be listed on their site as is the case with DOSBox.

Cheers!

edit, sorry

btw what's your sound card? The only thing I can think of is it could be an issue with hardware acceleration, like outrun 2006 has (disable it and it works)

It's a Soundblaster X-Fi Xtreme, you can't properly disable hardware acceleration for it in Win7 but I did switch off its sundry "enhancements", sadly made no difference. Thanks for the suggestion anyway :)
