"Damn! Those alien bastards are going to pay for screwing up my ride!"
You could say I'm an old-school gamer, as a lot of my games are pretty outdated. Duke Nukem 3D has to be one of my favorites of all time. The Build Engine may have withered away very big, but the fact remains that this is one of the all-time classics in first-person shooters. In fact, this game came before the Half-Life series, before the Unreal Tournament and Unreal Championship games, before Far Cry, but then after Wolfenstein 3D and Doom. Duke Nukem 3D was the third installment of the hit franchise, and the first in the series to go 3D after two 2D adventures. The storyline is that after Duke Nukem had beaten his previous enemies, the Rigelatins(?), Duke Nukem returned home to Los Angeles. What happened next, his ride was shot up, with Duke landing on an L.A. skyscraper. His goal is to save L.A. and the world from these aliens.
OTHER INFO: This game may be as old as 1994 or 1996, but the game is still one that I play almost every day. I'm making levels, editing *.CON codings, designing art, and all. I've had this game for quite a while, and it only got better with DN Atomic. Only bad thing was that I had to download a patch to get the Parental Material accessed. When I first played the game, I was scared a lot. One moment, you're gaping into a creepy area, and all of a sudden, you see a girl wrapped up in a slimy pod or something. You may even see big Slimer eggs as well around her. The bosses are challenging, especially the first and fourth (Atomic). It also features 8-player multiplayer action for those interested. I think I seen a lot of Kali, Heat, and TEN (Total Entertainment Network) for those games.
PROS: funny one-liners; awesome weapons; some huge levels; make your own levels with Build; over 39 intense levels and some extra levels; tough bosses; great effects in the game that most other first-person shooters in its day probably didn't have; fake multiplayer, for those who'd rather not challenge against humans
CONS: can be pretty scary at times. I had to edit a lot of textures to where I wouldn't be easily scared; may not be able to find this at most stores
FINAL VERDICT: It's one of my favorite games of all time. For something of 8 or 9 years, it withstood the test of time and still remains as a favorite of mine. I'm still making levels and modifying art. My computer may play mostly outdated games, but this one is always current to me. Elusive score. (Final Verdict: 10.00/10.00)
