Destinkeys, show me a well articulated post that discusses the issues with GT5 and I'll show you many more that are just rehashed rants with no perspective and aren't worth reading.

The problem is that GT5 is the best racing game the PS3 has. It's arguably the best racing game on the current generation of consoles but as each day goes past I want to visit GTPlanet less and less because the amount of whining is ruining the forum.

We all know by now what the faults are with the game, its not like anything new gets brought to the table. It's been moaned about frequently, whatever your gripe is.

I have an issue with the complaining-complainers.

Why is it so bad for a person, who paid for a product, to comment about their thoughts on that product in a forum designed for these comments?

Such a thing is not whining or tantrum throwing. However, flaming sincere posts with name calling and character criticism is weak at best and is exactly the act that the flamer pretends to dislike. The idea of free speech is not a freedom to mislead and interfere. If you have a COMPLAINT, make your own thread.

I get the point you're trying to make. But seeing all these similar threads about the same complaints over and over again and all the quibbling about every minor detail that isn't done right by PD makes me believe that this isn't a forum for men that love the smell of burning rubber and gasoline, but more a support group for women nagging about having their periods every month.

I'm the same with this, I thought it was bad when the game first came out but it's just getting worse.

Exactly, obviously some people think we haven't noticed the jaggy shadows :dunce:.

And this ^^

The facts are irrefutable. The grind EXISTS. The poor AI exists. Much is missing that was a well loved aspect of GT4, and a complete surprise that it was dropped.

Until everyone comes to the rescue of any member being flamed simply for voicing his opinion with reason and example, rather than dogma and polemic, this isn't going to stop...

There is no grind, it is imagined by people who don't like driving or have a sick fetish to get to level 40.
If there was no level system Eg. No level and you were just racing the race's you wanted to race instead of the ones that are gonna get you to level 40 the quickest then you might actually enjoy the game.

And thanks for the dig at me tryin to say i only play online with a tiny circle of friends, because actually i play offline mostly as my local friends here in NZ aren't up to par in all honesty ( the ones that own a PS3 ), and i'm still yet to meet some good aussies to race with. My online experience so far has been crap at best - Apart from drifiting and 1 30lap nascar race. But even then half the field crashed out. I'm waiting for the online update's on the 18th.
You however are in USA, your a lucky man and you have thousands of like minded people here at GTP to race with, this im jealous of.
I merely suggested that you find some friends to play online with since the A.I is too slow for you as you have pointed out 57 times throughout this site :)
I pointed out if the A.I is too slow and ignorant for you that there is PLENTY of people here that will be fast enough for your needs. But you'd rather just complain about the A.I i know, it's cool.

White n Nerdy - I don't know if anyone's asked this yet, but what does this actually have to do with GT5?

I suggest a mod move this thread somewhere else.
Wrong. GT5 and complaining go hand in hand around here, haven't ya noticed ?:sly:

You could say this is what most topics degrade into

in November I bought GT5. I also bought a new car, and I love both. But my car is perfect while GT5 is not.

Would the same fanboys telling me to just shut up and enjoy what I have with GT5 be saying the same if my new car had design faults and was infuriating to use at times ??, after paying out I expect pretty much near perfection from both. Customers generally do. Fair enough saying that to revisit topics again and again is unneccesary, I agree. But as paying customers we have a right to complain about a product we paid for and that is a sad sequel to previous GT's in my opinion.

If that annoys people who cannot see past GT5 then tough.

Civil discourse depends on EVERYONE coming to its rescue when fanboy immaturity raises its head.
Well, see, this is sort of the problem, isn't it? If they don't agree with your viewpoint, they are automatically 'fanboys' and immature in your eyes, and you say so. Fans of the game also have a right to say, "I like this, and here's why". Don't they have the right to express that opinion?

And, you know what? There would only be a TINY fraction of the legitimate 'complaints' if there weren't a cavalry charge of 'I don't care about the facts, I don't care that you MIGHT be right, how DARE you say anything negative about my game fetish...' which is what perpetuates these threads. I mean, who, other than someone who has resigned himself (or herself!) to only being able to race online with a tiny handful of Friends, or just wants to hotlap the 'Ring can, in all honesty, say that GT5 ISN'T a poor effort by PD?

The facts are irrefutable. The grind EXISTS. The poor AI exists.
Another problem is that people assume that their opinion = fact, and seem to be unable to separate the two. The way that you play the game, you choose to do a lot of grinding. I don't need to do a lot of grinding -- I actually do far less grinding in GT5 than I did in GT4. It's a question of how you choose to play the game, and since grinding is completely optional, what you call a 'fact' is really just an opinion. As a result, people dispute your 'fact', and by your reasoning, they are then 'fanboys', whom you then proceed to insult.

The opinion you repeatedly express is "How dare you like this, when it's so obviously flawed?" Have you considered that they MIGHT be right, that there is a way to enjoy this game that you haven't discovered yet?

There are guys on both sides of the discussion who can't stand to hear from guys on the other side. Is it possible that you're one of them?

Is the grinding completely optional if there is content gated behind the level system? It is optional as the entire playing the game at all is optional, but if i want to have a 24 hours of Nürburgring party during this year i would have to grind (i'm not grinding by the way).

sbk is becoming the Bill Cosby of the boards here. And yes, I mean this as a compliment. ;)

This is the problem. The complainers don't seem content to post their gripes once, or a dozen times. Or a hundred. They seem hell bent on forcing everyone to feel as crouchy and pissy as they are, no matter how many posts it takes. So needless to say, finding a remotely sensible post to reply to takes quite a bit of patience these days...

+1.

Wise words man... wise words... Maybe we must have another button near the search... it's "Rantless Search"

Yes, grinding is completely optional because nobody is forcing you to do the 24 hours of Nurburgring event.

Whilst I do sympathise with your point and I agree that perhaps the requirements could be less stringent that's a position you are putting yourself in.

Any game with a levelling system is restricting. You can't raid the top zones in World of Warcraft until you're maximum level, you can't kill the end boss in Final Fantasy XIII until you've played through the rest of the story, ad infinitum. Games which don't have this most basic of progression based system tend to be discarded by the majority of the playerbase very quickly. The question is, is their balance in the levelling system?

The fact remains, if you do not enjoy the game, any form of level based system will be a grind and that's the real issue at fault here.

There's a lot of people complaining about valid things. There are a lot of people complaining for complaining's sake, never bringing anything new to the table. Either could be excused on the basis that they "love this game and want to make it better".

What cannot be excused is the people who have already announced that they don't like the game, won't ever enjoy the game, and want to drag everyone else down. Misery loves company but when it starts dragging other threads down there's an issue.

Cause it is annoying when folks keep repeating the same thoughts that have already been discussed here. And maybe, just maybe, it would be better for similar ideas to be added in that thread where like minded folks can agree with you. No need to fill up the forum with every single complaint as it's own thread.

You won't see me creating a thread about my issue with folks complaining about complaining complainers.

Interesting comparison to WoW. I used to play WoW, and I'd run through some areas and kill the same monsters over and over again. Is that grinding, or part of the game, or both?

The nature of any static content game is that there will be repetition. In Wow, I could hit the same areas over and over if I wanted, or I could go somewhere else. For the guys who complain about the grinding, I can see your point, because there isn't a whole lot of 'somewhere else' to go in GT5, unlike WoW.

In WoW, though, 'somewhere else' meant that you went exploring. The equivalent of exploring in GT5 is exploring the garage -- finding cars to try, tuning them, driving them all over the place. If your gaming experience is event-driven, this comes up understandably short. If your gaming experience is car-driven, the exploration goes on for a long, long time.

But you will post on one.

The problem is that even well thought out, clearly articulated posts about issues with GT5 get EXACTLY the same fanboy 'quit yer' bellyaching' and the REST of the forum doesn't flame them to death, even if they don't agree with the OP.

+1

It seems the going theme around here with alot of people is you're free to your opinion, but only as long as it's the same as theirs. Differ from it in even the slightest way and be prepared to be assaulted with every name they can think of.

But that's fanboyism for you. Anyone who complains about complaints should be banned. Every video game forum would be a thousand times better if they did.

Look. Neither one of you act like you've read a thing other than your own posts in this thread. And this is typical of people who want to take issue with the quite literal avalanche of complaints which have swamped these boards like a backed up sewer.

As Rylan says:
There's a lot of people complaining about valid things. There are a lot of people complaining for complaining's sake, never bringing anything new to the table. Either could be excused on the basis that they "love this game and want to make it better".

And as I posted:

They seem hell bent on forcing everyone to feel as crouchy and pissy as they are, no matter how many posts it takes. And what is really tiresome is being labeled a fanboy when someone calls a complaint into question. This is as brainless as some liberal who starts slinging accusations of racism to destroy any kind of dissent with their points. Devedander is very good at this tactic. He accused me once of obsessively defending GT5 at every point. When I pointed out that I had made many of the same complaints as the others here - at actual GT5 fanboys now - he said that I had just cut n pasted what others had posted, but mostly I was just making excuses. That was just too dense to take seriously.

And this is the problem. Many of you complainers are so full of spite that you won't give or take on anything. You don't want a discussion. You don't want to hear that someone doesn't see the same problems as you, or sometimes, doesn't see your complaints as any big deal. You guys want to riot, and anyone that doesn't go along with the mobs gets trampled.

And as we've been saying, WE GEDDIT. GT5 isn't perfect by a long shot. It isn't the game that Kazunori discussed in interviews. It's not finished. But there's plenty of blame to go around for that. Kaz, and perhaps members of the team, evidently came up with additions to the game that had to be wedgied in smoothly, and possibly didn't work as planned. SONY meddled. They had PD make GT PSP when Kaz was insistent that GT5 come first, and they pretty much had to shelve GT5 during this time. They had PD work on making the game 3D, and then the game engine evidently had issues with shadows and pixelization that Prologue didn't have. We demanded that GT5 be out by Christmas week, no matter what. SONY agreed, insisting that it be out by Thanksgiving Day week, in order to capitalize on the lucrative holiday sales frenzy. So, PD had to cobble together what they had and package it in a reasonable game structure. They had to pull the game from production to adapt and test the game code with a new evidently more secure SDK just two or three weeks before release. And who knows what else went on.

So we got our game, and within two days of a worldwide release for once! But very few are happy with the game as it is. We all expected a game as big as the Milky Way and with as much to do as ten racers combined. It's hard to find a bigger GT fanboy than me, and I was complaining right along with the others.

But with me, there is a difference. I don't act like every flaw is as bad as a case of mesothelioma. I don't repeat my gripes every chance I get. It's a waste of time. So the paint shop doesn't even have it's own paint. I don't like that. But what does repeating that fact in every post do, besides make the others tired of reading it?

Take the A.I., a slightly different matter. People say the A.I. is the worst ever. I don't know how many times I've asked to hear of a game with better A.I. And FINALLY, ONE GUY mentioned iRacing's bots, I think in this very thread, as bots that make every other game's bots seem braindead.

And this is so typical. Die hard complainers don't want to have an actual discussion. They'd rather sling hate, and call you a fanboy rather than consider another viewpoint, or pose support for their position sensibly.

I keep thinking I'll learn my lesson and be done with these kinds of threads, but I keep thinking that maybe, just maybe, someone will actually post something thoughtful and intelligent, rather than a reactionary eruption. Someday I'll learn. ;)

Maybe we must have another button near the search... it's "Rantless Search"
I'm suggesting this if you don't!👍

Lol, why isn't this thread locked yet?

The internet is a place for people to complain without having to actually face somebody. lol

I think its great! :)

I prefer going to the store and complaining to somebody's face but that's just me. I'm a confrontationist.... if that were a real word.

its a thread about complainers, not the things be complained about. unless this is one of them. Without complainers we would have no one complaining about the complainers.
