fiddling with the nvidia settings, some like Vistaro on nogrip really shows the true beauty of Shift 2.... of course you need the horsepowers (double GTX480+big CPU) to make it look so cool but still.. Amazing results:

umm so im asuming your using a cpu compareing it to ps3 graphics of course the pc version should look better

Not being funny or anything but I think GT5s premiums look sharper. Just my opinion.

maybe in photomode but not ingame...

No, even in-game, GT5 premium cars are the tits. NFS graphics are nice but not even close to GT5. Although that is cute that you compare a $2000 computer system to a $300 PS3.

And the PS3's title still wins

To me, those two photos of the SLR are nice but nowhere near GT5. I've personally not come across a racing game that has better looking premium models than GT5.

Here I was expecting the PS3 version and only came in for a laugh.

Yeah, considering the hardware on the PS3 is getting to the prehistoric stage in technology terms, and GT5 still looks, and runs better than Shift 2, I'd say no. The interiors on Shift 2 cars are awful if your not in the cockpit cam, and all over there's alot more jaggies, and AAing destroys performance on PC. Not that my hardware's anywhere as good as yours (Intel Q6600, OC'd 3.2GHz, 4GB RAM, Nvidia GTS 250 1GB).

I love how "premium models" has become a household name, even though it doesn't exist in any other game exept GT5. Other games just have cars...

I'll agree though, GT5's premium car models are a long way ahead of Shift 2 or any other game on the market. The only game I see even coming close is Forza 4 which looks amazing so far.

For reference, check out the GT5 Photomode forums. There are some incredible photos in there :)

On par with GT5's premium cars? Nah, not really. They look really good, but that's mostly just the high render resolution, AA and the fact that they don't have to compromise on things like lighting and shadows on the PC. GT5's premium models are definitely more detailed, but are hindered by the relatively much weaker PS3 it runs on.

i will say the shadows don't look like gt5's steaming pile of crap.

I also think GT5 model looks better. It's not about how sharp the image is, it's about the details.
One thing I noticed from the above pictures that I notice a lot of game models get wrong is, an edge in real life is never Sharp (Knive Edge). That's why GT5 premium models look so much more realistic than other games.

Gran Turismo graphics are like Beethoven. Shift 2 graphics are like the Sex Pistols. I love them both.

You know, honestly I am tired of hearing this excuse. The same was said about GT4 on the PS2, the same is said with GT5 on the PS3. Guess what, you all are going to continue to say it every single time, no matter what generation PS GT hits. Stop making excuses for PD. They need to be accountable for what they produce. The got themselves in a bind. They started the premium war and now they will die by it. Every GT title that release will need to be premium, if not, they will get hounded for it. If they were smart, they would have approached it like SMS. Make medium to low ended higher poly count model. This will allow them to do so much more in their racing environment. They got out classed by SMS as far as what you can do overall in the racing world.

Graphics - GT5>S2U
Physics - GT5=S2U (this varies, some like to push a car to its limits, others like a car that sticks to the road)
Gameplay,options, longevity, customization, tracks, car selection,special effects, competitive A.I. - GT5<<<<<S2U.

With all this said, GT5 should look better. They spent 5 years doing the game. On top of that ,the premium cars and most of the track graphics is about the only things they did right. There is a novel of things wrong with GT5. Take a look a the GT5 feedback section of this site. Graphics and physics are the only true complaints for S2U. But these two alone isn't exactly making or breaking a game. The race thrill is there. Can't say that for GT. The medium+ detail of S2U, allows for soo much more with what goes on while racing on a track. I will take medium detail with a great racing experience in a heart beat vs a nice scenic ride on track to look at the pretty graffiti. For me GT5 disappointed me so much that I don't even remember how it looks. I haven't played it since the end of last year.

You JeremyClarkson'ed the discussion.

oh yes, watch that... something you will never see on GT5 (it begins by a P):

I traded fps for beauty to make these shots on my GTX9800:

The car models look stunning but it seems the lights dont have the detail of GT5 and this is what brings them down.

On par with GT5 premium cars? NO!
some of them look like standard cars from GT5

The SLR in the pictures above is actually a pretty bad example for the graphics from the game. The car models don't look as good as the GT5 Premium models, but still very good.

Here's my take on what I think are very lazy renders, it seems that EA/SMS dont render cars as they are supposed to look in real life, rather, they seem to render them with these in mind:

- what saves time
- what we can get away with
- what we think is cool/how we think the car should look

EA/SMS do seem to render the cars to appear however they please rather than give us something that looks real.

Have you seen the Standard cars in GT5?:yuck:

GT5 models are far superior to the ones in Shift 2. Though the models in shift 2 are good too, the differences are subtle but certain.

Given you're avatar and profile im not sure if i can take that comment seriously :p

Are you serious? How about when you've rendered better with all the physics calculations going on and keep a good framerate IN GAME I'll call it fair criticism. You realise these aren't post-processed but ACTUAL in game shots?

Exactly. This dude has issues. If he took time to analyze all that , why didn't he bleed text all over any of the non-premium cars in GT5. I tell you what, try analyzing that in a video. Analyze it while the car is in motion. Its easy to critic a frozen frame. I don't know about you but when I race, I don't attempt to pick out subtle things that you mention. 99% of what you point out is clearly nick picking. When people like yourself are so critical about one thing, but not across the board and consistent with all things related, it only show prejudice. You had nothing else better to do I assume. Oh I get it.........you work at PD don't you. Kaz stop trying to disguise yourself and go fix your game.

Too much time on your hands!

Lmao @ "badly rendered 2nd wall, same two panel's repeated" ...Seriously?

Yes I am aware that they are in game shots and yes I am being serious because I actually have the game Mr. Hot-blooded-fanboy. With a game like shift there isn't really much going on with physics calculations, it's not really the advanced physics model they claim it to be, it seem to rely on the visual effects to enhance this.

Lets be honest here, theres quite a few sims that do a hell of alot more physics calculations and have graphics that miles better so really, I've got no problem with you trying to defend Shift 2 as you're clearly a fan, but there is NO EXCUSE for the flaws in the renderings highlighted above in a game of Shift 2's nature, there really isn't as it's just damn right lazy and piss poor.

This is really a dumb thing to say, it's like saying to Michael Schumacher "How about you keep a good record IN F3 and I'll call it fair criticism" in reference to say Marcus Ericson = completely stupid and smacking 'left-wing' (Schumacher DID drive and F3 car and when he did he was pretty damn good ...I wonder what I'm trying to hint towards here ....hmmmmm)

...you really haven't seen jacks**t intull you look at the full blown simulators that some of the F1 teams are using these days, we're talking realistic to a point where even the aero is behaving almost exactly as it would in reality (ignore whatever they will have shown you on television because they will NEVER show you this stuff).

If I bothered with a standard car I'd need a month! lol ...honestly I originally did that for a laugh and yes I am fully aware it looks a hell of alot better in motion, but you guys have failed to spot this and the sarcastic nature of my posts and have taken this abit too seriously lol

Haha are you kidding me? Who gives a stuff if the street lights are poorly rendered or if the fence is made up of duplicated panels. If you've got time to whinge about such insignificant details, you obviously do have too much time on your hands.

I agree it's not as good as GT5 but there's no need to go over the top. Besides, GT5 has its shortcomings too you know...

Ah sorry didn't pick up on that, definitely needed the /sarcasm line with that one :P

You're wrong on the physics btw, they're actually very advanced, but they didn't do the best job getting it through to the user (they made it 'playable' for the console gen.)... I'm really hoping they fix the default tunes of all the cars in the first patch, it will go a long way to improving the perception of the handling.
