okay i have read and read and tuned my rx-7 to my liking.... now just one question remains......HOW THE HELL DO U DRIFT....help meh please

If the car is going to snap back on you, then try flicking the stick/wheel back the other way JUST as it straightens up, that's what I do anyway.

On a race screen go to settings, to race options (I think) and select MT.
And heres a tip, when in a drift, let the accel on and off to have a bit more control over the car, I'm a new (crap) drifter aswell but I'm getting better ;)

my best advice...... keep practising. drifting is hard, especially when your learning. don't let mistakes or other more expirienced drifters get you down. special stage route 5 is a great place to learn, thats were i learned. also your car may not be set up right. just because someone says that that's the optimum setting for your car, dosn't mean its right for you. set up the car yourself to get a car your comfortable with and capable with. in all keep it up, drifting is meant to be fun, and don't let anyone else tell you otherwise!:sly:

slider-s15 taught me to drift on special stage 5, he knows more or less what he is doing, helped me set up an audi rs6 and a subaru type r, great guy

wow slider thanx, i was up really late last night practicing and on trial mountain(practice in gran turismo mode) i got thru the first 2 turns very nicely..... but my rx-7 fd 91` wont get sideways as much as i want
and thanx to u 2 george

Well, watch the DVD " The Drift Bible" will help out a bit in that section. Or, when you come to a turn, you brake and reduce your speed about 70% and turn into the corner. once your at the middle point of the turn you tap the gas and try to break your rear traction and go into "countersteer mode" while controlling the gas and return to "regular mode" as you exit the corner.

Grip racing is better!!!

If you've read the drift reference and the settings thread lie youi say you have, then to be honest, youi wouldn' thave this "general" question.

The "trick" to drifting isn't being uber skilled or having some great settings. It's about understanding your car. Much like pushing your car to the limit in a grip style race, you have to understand the limits of the car and what it can and can't do. until you get there, drifting will elude you. The good news is that with practice AND observation, this doesn't take to long at all. :)

i probably didnt understand... every thing that i saw that related to learning how to drift i read.. i saw a drifting video by nesquick and it helped me alot... i bought a trueno and i must say i like it better then the rx-7 im getting there :)

This is why you must try it for a while THEN go read. Because you won't understand anything that anyone is talking about until you experience it for yourself. This is a common error made by new people in drifting.

It's much like any other skill in life. You can't get advise on it until you actually try it. You can read 15 books on how to play tennis, but until you actually try to serve, you really don't know what they are talking about. The same holds true here. :)_

yea... figured it out... at first i had no idea what anyone here was talking about...ive had my Gt4 forever but i didnt no u could drift in it... oh and ive added another car to my driftable list... the amuse s2000 R1 `04.... its nice... ill have to get a vid on here

I know you JUST found this forum. How about reading all the great info that's in the sticky at the top of this forum, then asking about specifics.

jbaxta - please do not double post. If you're still the last poster and think of something new to say, edit it into your existing post rather than make a whole new one. I've merged your posts so that you can see what this looks like.

heel toe downshifting is used in real life, or if your simulator for whatever reason is using a clutch alogn with the other 2 pedals. I wouldnt worry about it in GT4.

EDIT

Famine, your new avatar makes baby jesus cry, btw.

Gripping properly and achieving a fast lap time is actually harder than drifting.

are u so serious....are u really saying that maintaing a loss of friction at a high speed is easier then simply going up to corner...braking then turning....*thinks* someone cant drift

I think a fast lap for me would be something so good I can't recreate it. I can drift, and I can drift good, Ive been drifting for about 3 years starting in gt3. I'm not very consistent, so making a fast lap while gripping is hard. Same with drifting, I can drift good, when I get a drift going I can make the car do exactly what I want, but lap after lap is hard for me.

egh...i guess everyones differnet..im awesome at gripping..as a matter of fact thru out my 13 years of life 7 of them ive been gripping just started drifting like last month and im already pretty good...
