True. Its a cumulonimbus cloud (thunderhead or storm) and is a good example of the type of cloud mentioned.
It looked much more spectacular in person than that picture can justify.

These are quite common in the South.
If you check out the tops of some of the Cumulocongestus clouds, under the right conditions, they can form just above the tops of the rounded, leading edge of the cloud. They usually break through the lenticular cloud but have seen these many times here in the South.
Having an eye to the sky is whats needed to see these.
They can usually be seen over mountains or rolling hill if the weather conditions are right.

Clouds are my favorite. Cumulus family is my favorite and have been fascinated with them since I discovered them in childhood.
Heh, I used to call the cumulus congestus clouds "high towers" because I never knew the proper name for them. As I got older, I did all the research I could handle on knowing everything about Meteorology and have been an avid fan ever since.
