I think you may be able to divide the world into Onion-Likers and Onion-Dislikers.

Because the world needs more divisions.

I love em,.. but had a horrible experience once.

Working at BK as a youth, I was told to slice onions. They brought me to the back room and showed me the slicer and the box of onions. This slicer had a bin, and a rotating blade on one side of the bin. Basically, you turn the handle and the blade takes slices out of the onion and discharges them to the other side.

This was the worst food experience I've ever had. Bout 1 minute into the sliceing, I began experieincing horrendous pain in my eyes. Long story short, I finished the job with suran wrap on my face,.... I also quit that job that same day.

Sounds like you had a religious experience from that. Hopefully, you didn't turn around and work for McDonalds.

Onions are great. I like 'em raw, sauteed, deep fried.
On all sorts of sam-miches.
If you have to chop them, cut them into quarters and use the "Handy Chopper". It keeps the smell confined and chops the onions very nicely.

I like em, cant stand the texture of them or when their tase is too overwhelming. I prefer them small with their flavor still there.

HOW TO AVOID "ONION CRY": Apparently, if you chew gum while slicing onions, you won't end up crying. That's just say, though, I've never actually tried it.

How about wearing swimming goggles? 💡
