Online Error *Disconnected from server* HELP

I resorted to using an ethernet cable. A much more stable connection. Only problem is the placement of your gaming set up. Luckily I've got a 10 foot wire that snakes through holes my brother and I made for it. No one in the house will trip over it. :D

^^I run a 20ft cable from the upstairs (where PS3 is) to the downstairs (where router is). I roll it up every time I'm done with it..

Woah wait what?

you know that lil thing you plug in a PC that has internet and gives its own WiFi connection for up a certain amount of Devices?? Yea that thing. it came with Odd and cheap software so you can name the Connection with security settings ect.

I'm having these problems the last days, have a new router from the internet provider, gives a 100% signal no internet problems at all on my normal pc... but when i wanna start up GT5 i get disconnected from the server everytime.

Driving me mad here, and everytime it gives me a different error code also if i would write them down i'd had a book by now.

Any useful tips apart from restarting the server or replacing the router as i don't think this is the problem to be honest.

Maybe the GT5 server just sucks haha

My dad won't buy one because "there's nothing wrong with the one we have now". That's why we have all sorts of problems right?

Then he shoots back with "I never have any problems with it". Really now? Because every time you get a "content error" from Netflix you don't get pissed off? LOL Just makes me so mad.

Google "port forwarding", "DMZ" and "DNS settings" as regards the PSN. You might have some luck if you manually forward all the ports the PSN and GT5 require, and you might be having DNS issues. Finally, it's worth checking whether there might be a problem at your ISP's end with the PSN. I emailed my ISP and told them about some problems mine had, and they tweaked some settings at their end, and I've not had a problem since.

Buy an older Linksys WRT54G wifi router. Best investment for $30. Besides you can install DD-WRT on it as well. Overclock your router 👍

Yeah i think it's DNS related because i see that popup a lot next to the error messages, ISP = internet security policy?

By the way if you write down those error codes where do you send them? Or any PSN complaints for that matter, you know where to go on your playstation yourself to signal the cavalery, so they can check it from the backend?

Hard-wired all the way 👍

I think half the disconnects are when the host decides to boot ... to counter this they should reintroduce a system similar to Prologue where you already had the specific events and it was just a case of waiting for the grid to be filled! I really used to enjoy that!

Even if you are wired, a bad router will still get you disconnected(this happened to me on my old router). Especially D-Link routers. They are notorious for dropping connection for a few seconds, and that's all it takes to disconnect you when you're playing.

Internet Service Provider. In my experience the error codes are really just something that you can look up and help to identify where the problem might be.

PS try finding out what your ISP's DNS server IP. Or, you could try google's DNS server, which is on 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4

Cabled or wireless, it really shouldn't make a difference unless your router has problems. I've been on wireless since I purchased my Playstation 3, and yes initially I had problems, but I discovered it was due to a faulty router. I replaced it with a Linksys and I've not had one problem since.

One of my favorite electronic devices of all time right there. But ditch the DD-WRT and install TOMATO firmware. I just wish it was wireless N, I'd still be using it.

Now I've got a Fritz!box 7390, meant to be top off the line but it needs a bridged modem to even connect.

DGL-4300 Wireless G Gaming Router (5+ years old and better than the the newer ''N'' version) going to a wireless bridge, then a CAT5 cable running tp PS3. Just as stable as a cable directly from modem to PS3. Not in a DMZ either, running DMZ is unnecessary if everything is set right and ports are forwarded, etc.

All disconnects arent because of your router unless you're using a crappy router, or you've set up your network incorrectly. I bet a lot of it has to do with GT5's terrible netcode.

Thanks for all the tips gentlemen, i'm still suspicious tough as i have a new router wich works fine for the internet connection on my pc, also did not have these problems before they all seemed to start since the last hardware update for the playstation this week.

I login fine on the PS network starting up my system but as soon as i select GT5 the problems start when loading up the game.

As a final note i'd like to complain also about the lack of a proper customer service for GT and PSN when you are having problems the average joe (like myself) wouldn't be able to fix. Also do you fine people have the same amount of sheisse when playing other games? Let's say Call of duty for example?

Cheers!

I have an 8 year old Linksys that was giving me lots of problems.
I downloaded and installed the latest software and have had little or no problems since.
Cost me nothing.

I'd recommend people to try this before buying a new router.

One question for all people that ditched their old routers and bought better ones; did you all tried assigning a static IP adress to your PS3 and port forwarding your routers so they match with GT5? I did that now after spending a lot of time scanning the net for possible solutions.... and it doesn't seem to help neither.

So i'm guessing if all of this fails then it must be up to buying a descent router to be able to play wireless, withouth all the disconnection problems.

I honestly have done nothing to my WRT54G. I set the admin p word on the box and then setup my SSID and P word there. I have my ps3 in the #1 spot and everything else comes after it. I never had to tweak anything.

Is this seriously the only way to fix it? I have a NetGear WGT624v3 with a wired connection, is this a good router? I'm always getting random disconnects and the loading stripe / invisable player bug with GT5, but for normal internet use it's fine, same with playing any other game I own online, I can do it issue free.

I've tryed the guides available for port forwarding and seting up a static IP for my PS3 and none of them fixed it for me. I've been having issues since most probably the day GT5 was released, but I only started to actualy notice something was wrong around the 1.06 update for GT5, there has been plently of game updates since then that have apperetly adressed online issues but what ever they are doing its taking no effect to improve it for me.

I just want an explination as to what's causing it. Why am I disconnecting for no reason? Why can I enter an online lobby but not be able to see each player like I should?

Netgear, D-Link have issues with any steady, heavy traffic from my gaming and work from home experience. a Cisco or the older linksys will just about never give you an issue honestly.

Maccer_42, Have you tried plugging your Ethernet cable in a different router port? Perhaps you could try another Ethernet cable?

I've been seeing more of the loading stripe / invisible player bug since the latest updates. For some reason my connection can spot them but I don't think there is anything wrong with my connection. I rarely get disconnected and I'm able to host rooms without problems. A week or two ago a host left to give me a shot because others were having problems and when I became host everyone was able to be seen and had no problems. Very strange...

Ok yesterday evening connection problems AGAIN, i reinstalled my internet connection to my PS3 manually, assigning a static IP adress again and entering the DNS codes (primary and secondary) of the router. turning the uPnP of like everyone suggests on the net.

After that the connection was excellent, fast and no troubles at all GT5 connection illness cured it seemed... This afternoon i switch on the PS3 and what do you know; cannot connect to server...

Someone is either gonna get a PS3, a copy of GT5 or a router on his head walking past my window today; please someone let me know what i should throw out of there!

I have 24/4Mb connection, wired to cheep A-link rr24 router, doing always before onlineraces system catche clearing from GT5's options (takes about 20sec) and sometimes, once a month taking power totally off of ps3 and router. Never problems with connections.

Also know that there is some issues on psn and gt5 which brings troubles even you have taking care well all of your hardware. For example nur24 with time/weather blackscreen before race. That ruins almost totally this game for me atleast.

Here was not any advices for op but hopefully some tips to newbies and lets hope PD gets netcode right before gt6.

this only happens to me with GT5

I'll join a server that seems to have a very good connection on the menu, but after a lap or two the people I'm driving with start freezing and teleporting, and then I know its about to boot me.
"disconnected by server"

i guess its just a permanent problem

Get a wired connection- worked for me and many others.
