Online GT3

In the newest road and track they talk about it with the GT3 lead desigener, who started it all. HE mentions nothing of needing another version, and seems that the ilink is all you need.

I think that SONY will release an ONLINE ADD-ON for GT3 with the modem, just like they're doing with Twisted Metal: Black.

I wouldnt mind downloading the new gt3 off the net with my high speed dsl and then buying one of those things where i can transfer my data from my mem card to my pc so that i have unlimited space and can load it up to the pc version. I know that im sure as hell not going to pay for a modem AND service to the internet on my ps2. I pay 40$ a month for dsl. ALso does anyone know if ps2 will be able to play over the net with pc games that go over the net i.e. counter strike.

To the person that was complaining about already paying for DSL. The add-on for the PS2 is an ethernet card/modem. You can choose from an internal or external device. Also, the hard drive (40GB I believe) has the ethernet card and modem built into it.

So don't worry if you already have DSL, because that's actually a good thing. Just go get a hub or something so both your computer and your PS2 can be online at the same time.

a router would be better because it doesn't split the speed between both machines, it gives full speed to which ever one is using the internet at that time.

The online adapter for the PS2 is not a modem, it's an ethernet adapter and hard drive.  You'll need to have broadband to use it.

It's coming in September or October before the GC and Xbox.

GT3maniac, There are projects in the works to be able to play against different platforms, but they dont work right yet

Iceman, You are thinking or a switch, not a router.  A router is used to determnine what direction a packet should be sent.

And finally, do you really think that you could play GT3 over the internet?  I think not.  This is a game where hundreths of a second count for everything.  An arcadey version could work, (i.e. SF rush)  but not GT3 as it is.  It requires input that is too precise.
