I went online the other night after an absence of a couple of weeks. It was the worst punt-fest I've ever seen. I won a couple of races in spite of EVERY OTHER DRIVER trying to ram me off the road (having started from 12/12.) But most of the time, I just got creamed. Had a few disconnects, too.
I hosted several times, made sure the race ended, even when I sat out part of it in the pits. (One time was for a phone call)

Which would result in the car ghosting right through you and basically cheating.
Allow the option for both. No collisions would mean like ghost car racing which would be a lot like time trials but you would have real life ghost cars on the track to do this with. At least you wouldnt be rammed off the road by idiots. Its clearly obvious this needs to be added to the game. Just look at the amount of threads complaining about being punted or rammed of the track. It at least needs to be an option otherwise people are going to hate this game online.
Adding damage to the game would slow some of the punting down because people wouldnt want to damage their car. But if this game gets released with no damage then its going to be a huge ram fest online unless they turn collisions off.

...unless there are private rooms. In which case, problem solved. And allowing hosts to eject bad sports and annoyers would help, too. Of course, some people would host and eject anyone who beats them, but so what? Have that done to you once, and move on to somebody else's game.

Yes exactly. Private rooms would solve most of the problems right away. I cant even comprehend how this game doesnt have private rooms. I think almost every game out there has private rooms.

SCEA have said they are working on it, we may find out some info on it in just a few hours.

There is no bigger compliment then having to be ejected from a lobby because you are too good :). it's no big problem indeed, i cant wait for private lobbies and more host options!

That being said.. why in bob's name is it taking so long?! for example, ferrari challenge's online is bad as well, but they are patching it this or next week allready... why is PD waiting so damn long to fix something so simple?

I have not touched my copy of GT5P for months now because i cant be bothered going online with it.. it's a ramfest with a 50/60% chance of not even making it to the end of a race because the host stops the game.

turning collisions off would be awful. Then you would just end up with 16 player simultaneous time trials.

It will be interesting to see what the final outcome will be. We will just have to adjust with what ever they decide to do.

I am no wizard on the subject of servers or whatever you wish to call them , but is it possible for the server to have what could be called sub-hosts ? If junior gets pissed off , starts to cry , then disconnects , the game would automatically roll over to the sub-host without any interference so the race can continue, that way everybody does not get pissed off. sound logical ???

Forza has that. come to think about it, Forza has a lot of things GT doesnt..online and off. One day PD, one day...

Yes of course Forza has a lot of things that GT doesnt. Like proper car parts to modify your car with among other things. If Forza 2 had 12+ people online instead of 8, more pit stop options, some sort of qualify options, like 3 more real world tracks and wheel support (DFP, MOMO, G25, etc.), it would be the perfect racing game (nearly).
