Please delete if something already here somewhere, but i couldn't find anything.....

Did my first few online races the other night, and didnt notice any "messages" to tell of a penalty, but when i finished the race had 50 secs added to my race time.

Given i have no idea what the penalty was for, i think i like the old GT5 system where you cop a rolling 5 or 10 second penalty. Very clear, you know how much road you can or cant take.

Have i missed something here, is there a option that shows what the penalty is for?

Cheers

Correct, the penalty should be there for indescretions, but let me give you an example....

The last league race in our 13th season was at Deep Forrest. The concrete strip on turn 4 (left before the bridge) is a noted spot for a harsh penalty with one given for even hinting at running a straight line. So you knew before you got there that you had to get the right angle to keep your speed up, and not incur the penalty. (the way it should be). The thing is you know where the limits of the track are, (in our rules and regs 2 tires must remain on track at all times) so you can drive accordingly.

I pride myself on driving very clean, so when i finished the race at Bathurst i was curious as to where i incurred the penalty. I hadnt Cut anywhere where i though "that will be a penalty for sure", so i just thought it makes it pretty tough if you dont know where you have to leave a bit more margin, or where you can attack a little more, all within the rules of the league you or i or anyone races in.

Fuji is another that is harsher in some areas than others, the exit of turn 2 will punish you if you even hint at running wide, something that you have in mind when racing close in a field of cars.

I need to try this out, as have not played online yet, due to having to scrimp and save to buy new whips....Agree though the punish you as it happens system is better that way you know where you can be pushing

I did an online race last night on Bathurst, some n00bs kept using the runoff on the dipper and not being slown down for it.

But I just did my own version of a penalty.

A good shunt at the end of conrod teaches them a lesson.

I actually like added time rather than diminishing my performance. It is more safe to do for surrounding drivers, if they don't take a second look to notice the car is possible. Having a penalty on a high speed turn as well, such as the run up to the mulsanne on Le Mans is a great example. You want to have at least 145 mph exit with any car when you cross the whit line for the highway to reach max speed (at least for LMP's). If you happened to roll a tire off the track the smallest bit you would be slowed to 30 and a grueling mulsanne trip for you. Now with this added time, you can still keep up and compete against players and finish well or better at the end, rather than never being able to catch up ever again.

50 seconds is quite the amount of time. How many laps was the race. Try one lap as is like to see what it is per penalty. Another thing to see is the severity of it. Some penalties in gt5 lasted 5 and some up to 15..

Was a 5 lapper !!! really got me puzzled !!!

50 second penalty online for not making a pitstop(s) in a race.
100 second penalty for not changing tire compounds in a race.

My main worry is how this will affect our online leagues that are generally policed by a steward. Is there a way to turn this off?

You confirmed this I assume? If so, that's great news. I was afraid PD would stick a 10 second penalty on for missing a pitstop when pitstops cost you at least 30 seconds on most tracks.

I watched Wardez test the pitstop penalty.

I think I saw somewhere else that no tire change is 100 seconds added on.

I like the idea of it added at the end, and people having to stay on their toes.
Will make it harder for people to continually just push the limits constantly perhaps.

At the very least at, the ghosting & pausing mid-track nonsense will cease to be a source of general race disruption, both for the penalized and the surrounding cars.

Which brings me to my burning question... is there penalty system without ghosting?
Because that was always my beef with the penalty system. You couldn't have the penalty on without having cars skid & then ghost, or ghosted upon being lapped. Very stupid & realism disruptive to have cars ghosting mid track. Also way too exploitable.

Hmmm. Well, I guess 50 seconds is better than 30.
I would've preferred if it was customized to the track's pit time.

I've never timed it, but I don't think a 50 sec penalty is that harsh on Eiger Nordwand.

Though I'm still waiting for @MSTER232 to come through on his bet that he could make a sandwich while pitting at Eiger. ;)

This penalty is only for pitstop and tire change violations as far as I know. Can anyone confirm through personal experience that they took shortcuts and got time added after the race? If not, can someone run a one lapper while I sleep and post the results here?.

One thing I would like to see in the GT series is some way of knowing what will incur a penalty on a given track. There is absolutely no consistency in GT5 with regards to this.

At Monza the player can cut the first two chicanes so long as they don't go past the curbs with the faint black outline, and yet utterly steam over the top of the Ascari chicane. At Le Mans merely getting four wheels on most corners will net you a penalty (I am not sure about the right hander into Mulsanne Straight). In Trial Mountain I don't think it is possible to get a shortcut penalty. I assume so anyway, considering players can cut Turn 2 and the final chicane with no consequence.

They can do much better at informing the players about penalties than trial-and-error. But I assume this hasn't changed for GT6.

Oh you caught me skimming again. Somehow I thought all the penalties had changed to be added on at the end.
Wishful thinking on my part.

In a race with froced pit stop, if you enter the pit on the last lap and cross the line on the pits you are not penalized... kind of dumb..
Tested with friends

All that will do is keep encouraging them to drive like idiots.

Don't lower yourself to their level!

They do give you a 'power decrease' penalty for false starts... :) But for all others, it would be nice if you'd get a notification so you know to expect penalty time will be added at the end of the race and so you know the limit of the spot you got the penalty at... Ohwell... Maybe they'll change it in an update.

All it did was made him quit, which made the following race much nicer.

So, I say it worked.

The guy was really a n00b.

He had a white R33 which looked fully lowered on bathurst which is not a smart idea and it had those fluro green rims.
