Yes, but you have to be close to the other person to play multiplayer, since it's only ad-hoc, and not infrastructure

Actually, no. With 'adhoc party' (download for free from psn store) and a ethernet connection from one's ps3 to one's internet, one can play infrastructure mode style games. The adhoc party connects your psp to your ps3 which then connects through your ethernetted internet connection to other players with the same setup.
