Aero-R
Hi to all

As some of you know, GTP_Aero-R (me *_*) has been in problems with my router & GT5P since the first day that tried the online. Actually, I've 3 weeks unfortunately without online playing and this is sad because I'm the only spanish on the GTP team so you're losing the friendly-spanish-company on the road and I miss the racings with Timpaqq, Daan, BJM and the rest on the old Suzuka 750PP.

I've spent many hours looking some routers reviews to get a proper one but it seems to be harder than what I though because each router have it's problems and I'm still taking a look at many of them. So... just to have a idea not only about the connectivity of the router but also about their work with GT5P, I've think about ask to those that uses GT5P online through a router or router-modem (but not modem only, sorry), and have no problems with GT5P with those errors while connecting, to tell me your router model & brand to have an idea of those that at least don't give so many errors. Just type:

Manufacturer:
Model:
¿Connection goes to PS3 through Wi-Fi or plug?:
Number of errors each time you try to connect to a race:

GT5P have a lot of online connectivity issues and this could be not due only to my router, but I think that if I buy one I'll be on better situation (mine doesn't have Wi-Fi and it's 6 years old), so thanks you very much in advance to those who leave me his experience with his router, I hope be able to get back to the road as soon as I buy one 👍

I use this:
0706-Belkin-Router-Graphic.jpg

A Belkin wireless router, connected through wireless to the PS3 (with its SSID broadcasting turned off and WEP encryption).
Can't remember which model which I have, but it looks like that, lol.

I use the Linksys WRT54g, nad I haven't experienced near the amount of problems some people have.

From,
Chris.

thats what i used to have work perfect

I have a linksys and i was having problems every now and then. Eventually i got fed up and started to look for a solution. It was acually a simple solution, I went to there website and updated the firmware and have not had a problem yet. Works perfectly now. I am using 3 playstation 3's a laptop and a desktop all on the router trouble free. Firmware is the key.

¿You know the model of that LINKSYS?

Ditto.

Place the PS3 in your router's DMZ.

(consult the router manual for information on how to do this)

Are you sure your modem isn't also a router with just 1 ethernet port?
If that's the case then buying a new router isn't going to help.
You'd need to disable all the router functions in the 'modem' so that it only acts as a modem and sends all the data to the router.

Don't think that my router have that option, at least not with that name. The most similar that my ZYXEL 643 have to the DMZ is an option to not forward any port to any of computers, and just forward all (I mean, open all the ports) to a single IP. I've done that but even with that I get errors.. I get so less... but still connects 1 of 7 tryes or so, not more... and even if I use that option the rest of my computers will be all with closed ports. My router only leaves to forward up to 7 ports, no more.. it's so old. But thanx for the suggestion Famine 👍

Totally sure. It's a ADSL Router with integrated modem, it's a ZYXEL 643 that recieves a telephonic line plug and gives 4 ethernet ports (thru RJ-45 connectors). I've been using it through 6 years, doing it's config. through MS-DOS (TELNET) and HyperTerminal, but it even doesn't have UPnP or so...

ah, misinterpreted the text and thought you had a separate modem and router.

Actually, I have many friends in the Canary Islands that have GT5P and have a lot of trouble maintaining a connection to play online. Something to do with Telefonica's main lines to the peninsula, and being that Telefonica is the most stable connection available, it's a lose-lose situation.

Ono and all the others are slow as hell. And tech support is about as ignorant as a brick.

im using netgear wireless router. no issues and i have hosted races with 12 players before without a glitch

So many thanks for that info. I've only a friend here in Spain that plays GT5P with me, and he has no problems (I mean... he gets the error while trying to connect but just maybe 1 or 2 sometimes, no more).

Do you know which routers they are using?

I have a Belkin N1 Vision
belkinn1vision.jpg

been fine so far although people said i have appear laggy a couple of times.

I am using a DLink DI-624+ router with wireless and wired connections. I was using the wireless connection which I found to unstable with lots of disconnections and I would host very few races. I switched to the hard wired connection and my connections are much more stable with very few drop outs and I now host 30 to 40% of the races I enter online.
but it even doesn't have UPnP or so...
I think this is your problem. I am sure I have read somewhere that Sony recommend a UPnP router to get the best connection.
Place the PS3 in your router's DMZ.
Famine with all due respect, that is not something I would recommend. Placing your PS3 into the DMZ means placing it outside the protection of your firewall and exposing it to any hacker who wants to try and get into your PS3. I don't think thats a good idea.
Aero, are you looking to replace your current modem/router combo with another modem/router combo?

I am using a linksys, can't read the model # as my eyes are getting old (lol) It is a 4 port and is not wireless. Running 2 computers a PS2 & PS3. Maybe a 5% disconnecting rate. That is in a 3 hr session.:)btw I got it used.:tup:model # BEFCMU10

Yeah mate. What I've is this (http://www.adsltodo.com/images/topics/ZYXEL643.gif), it's a Router who have a adsl-modem inside, so gets the line plugs & offer 4 plugs for ethernet. I'm looking for another one to remove it because it's giving me those errors. I was thinking about a linksys (this one... http://www.hispatienda.es/images/pr...B ADSL sobre RDSI Wireless 125 Mbps 4 Eth.jpg) but it's said to have some problems with slow adsl connections where the house is far from the central that gives the connection (my case), so I'm looking for other choices, so that I've started this thread :dopey:

Most of the users says sometimes that Wi-Fi disconnects while the direct plug doesn't. That's something I don't like because I thought Wi-Fi had the same fidelity than plug...

My router has upnp enabled and works just fine, except when i want to play GT5p.
In order to play it online i have to disable upnp in the ps3.

I don't, but I can ask. One is in Tenerife and another is in GC... connections are best in those two islands, I believe. Which one are you in?

I'm using a Sonicawall TZ180 where the Wireless connected devices are on a semi-DMZ. Haven't seen any issues at all when playing online. The errors I previously saw with the PS3 wired are completely gone. Also, the errors others have seen when updating GT5 over wi-fi, I haven't seen either..

I'm amazed guys about the fact that most of you said that you're searching players screen gives you no errors at all, because when I asked to the people that I know it's playing GT5P they told me that even with their best routers they get sometimes 1 error for each 10 tries or so... but if any day I get the point where you are (playing online without errors while connecting/searching) I'll be on heaven, seriously. I've earned 900.000 Cr on 1 week playing with this router that gives me like 7 or 8 errors screen every time I try to connect to a race... I guess that with your situation, earn Cr for the F12007 will be better.

Thanks for all the comments above, really, you're giving me some help 👍

I live in Tenerife, and yeah Tenerife & Gran Canaria are the islands with more urban things and better connections yeah, but I think that my problem isn't because of the connection... maybe it's only due to my router NAT.

I use the ZyXEL Prestige 660HWT RuterModem with few problems.
PS3-wireless and the PC-cable.

Perhaps it's an idea to ask your internet provider (Telefonica) what rutermodem they
recommend.

I have errors at least once a night, so I dont think thats to do with routers. I think thats just when you connect to a game but the hosting player disconnects before the grid loading screen or some similar reason.

Errors ir normal maybe... but my case of 7 or 10 errors for each race is really a problem, not a normal thing.

We've both ZYXEL and we've both problems, but you don't have many errors as you told me time ago. Telefonica would suggest me routers for their connection, but they can't say anything about GT5P, so I think that I'll try a router and if it doesn't work, I'll return it with the 15 days check period that the shop offers me and then buy another one. Let's continue seeing which ones fails more.

Nice to see you bjmels, un saludo amigo :)

hey would a wired router be better? And is 768kbps good eough speed? Cheap dsl lol..

Normally there's no differences between wired & wireless, but sometimes wireless gives errors and if you use wired, you solve it.

768 KBPS would be good. I've 1 MPBS but only reaches 864 KBPS of that 1 MBPS because I live in the middle of the natura and there's no better DSL for where my house is (I would pay a lot more for a better DSL) and I've played all the GT races without any problem. The only problems that I've are about NAT & ports while searching for players, but with 768 KBPS you'll have a normal race, don't worry. For exampe with my 864 KPBS the only lag that I've had time ago, was one day that all the people were driving so bad and if for example there's a crash that involves 4 or 5 cars, you see that crash with a bit of lag but your driving is without lag so don't be worried, it's ok 👍

Aero-R, i'm sorry, but it's kbps, not KBPS (same for mbps). This is a huge difference.

1 MBPS = 8 mbps.

You-re right, it's all about the 8bit=1Byte thing I guess, thanx for the correction 👍
