I can't find any threads about this...

A couple of days ago I participated in a 3 laps karting race on Côte d'Azur and I passed the finish line in 4th position. The result board awarded me as the winner and the chat box in the left side of the screen automatically said "I Win" under my PSN ID. The weird thing is that none of the other 8-10 people in the room raised an eyebrow to this. I can't tell if I received the winning prize or any extra XP because of this. A couple of hours later I experienced the same in a 1 lap race on the Nordscheleife but there I was awarded as the overall loser even though there was one guy far behind me who was awarded the position I actually finished in. So it happend to me two times on the same evening.

Frustrating, but it hasn't happend to me since then but can anyone confirm if this is a general problem and how does it affect the money and XP we earn in online races? I mean, does it mean the we get more (or less) money and XP than we should when this bug kicks in? :scared:

There is a similar bug when playing singleplayer against the AI but so far I haven't heard about any incidents where it affect the position the player gets in the races. However, the online multiplayer bug seem like quite a big deal or what is it all about?

I saw this happen to me in the Seasonal Challenge 3 at the Nurburgring Nascar event, I was number two when I was behind number 2, and still number 2 after I was ahead.

Hmm, sounds weird but it's not the same I am talking about. Could be a bug isolated to that Seasonal Event?

As I said, something indicates the race result is being messed up somewhere around the finish line. During the races there is no problem (from my experience at least).

I've been in an online race where I won, but so did another participant. During the race I never knew the guy was even there, I only saw him in the lobby. He later commented that his position had changed while there was no other cars around.

I've seen this happen in races too, its just a laggy or bad connection. Your best bet is to just jump out and try another room, maybe even restart your PS3, seemed to fix it for me.

Did you notice whether it affected the amount of money and XP you received? I really coulnd't tell because I can't find any scheme which says how much each final position is awarded in online races.

Honestly I didn't pay attention (plus a lot of times the xp/cr seems random) I was more concerned with why I was only seeing 1 competitor when there were 3 others in the room. I figured it was a glitch on one race, till we tried another and it bombed out again, so I just quit mid race.

Ive had this a few times. Took part in a 10 lap nurburgring race a couple of weeks ago. My screen froze for ages before the race started and when it came back on the other drivers were already 90 seconds ahead.

I decided just to blast round for the practice but then i noticed that I was showing as being in first place. This stayed the same until the 9th lap when one of the other drivers lapped me. Only then did I drop to second place and thats where I finsihed. It was as if I was a lap ahead when the race began....strange.

This is definitely caused by lag, I've seen it numerous times and not just on GT5 (Dirt 2 and F1 2010 also had these problems sometimes)

I don't know the actual mechanics, but I can guess that if your PS3 doesn't receive position updates on the other players frequent enough, your timing and position screen gets messed up..

This can usually be seen by cars glitching all over the track, for instance you see someone hitting a wall, you pass him and suddenly the player reappears before you from out of nowhere, like a ghost. This is fun with nascar, in a race with a friend we were both claiming to be in the lead for the entire race, on my PS3 I was ahead and on his PS3 he was 1st... In the end he beat me by 0.2 seconds although I could see him in my mirror at least 3 car lengths behind when I crossed the finish.

Anyway, my guess is that after you finish your total driving time is submitted and the end results are determined based on this time to ensure that the xp/credit rewards are still fair (although you might think it isn't).
