This has happened to me on two separate occasions..
I've entered into a room online.... Race Starts.... and when i apply brakes, (regular PS3 controller) they totally Lock-up. its weird... the brakes are either FULL ON or OFF, no matter how gentle i am with the brake button. nobody else in the room seems affected... I seem to be the only one sliding around like an idiot...
....both times this happened was two different cars by the way...
If i back out and enter into another room the problem resolves itself....

It's kindof annoying but i was just curious has this happened to anyone else???

Aaahhhhhhhh, Thanks!!!! I bet that's it. I'll pay closer attention to abs.
Thanks again guys!

online is a totally different animal. abs 1, is a must. ashamed to admit but HAVE to use skid recovery to even compete online.

Abs is the only aid i use and the only thing I don't tweak in the game. All my cars are at the default of 1. And I usually do ok. I never thought to chk that setting tho, in the races I mentioned above. I guess i assume everyone uses abs of one too. Never thought to turn it off. I'm tell'n ya, I don't know how guys race without abs in the game. My cars were just all over the place when I try to brake.... Maybe they are using pedals , Where you can feel the travel a little better..... Don't know.

I have been racing ABS 1 until recently.
I wanted to try it turned off though so bought a premium Golf GTi '05 and started a race. I calibrated the brake by pushing all the way to the floor and then restarted the race.

I had an excellent race against the AI as I had to be careful not to brake to hard and lose the back. Made me drive more like I would in iRacing.
After the race I altered the bias to Front 4 / Rear 3 and went out again and voilà.. I could brake again with real confidence.

Point being ABS 1 is not necessarily a must. :)

Edit: T500 Wheel and pedals

Ehh it's a bit harder with a DS3

braking hard enough to loose the back of a ff makes me think your settings are spot on. maybe its just my driving style but without abs i drive right through the turns. the wheel goes dead, all ffb disapears. with abs 1, im able to brake late and make the apex, all be it deep, but a correct line i think. maybe its my g27. honestly, i think the dfgt had better road feel, but g27 pedals are so much better. whats funny is, i dedicated a complete guest(only spare) bedroom to gt. led tv, 7.1 stereo, playseat with g27, etc... i only race 1 dude online. he uses a 39 doller wheel off craigslist, bungie corded to an upside down plastic hamper, sitting infront of a 55" rear projection tv from '88, horrible color, horrible 540 res, and he beats me. so honestly, i think its all personal.

Yeah abs off need the brake settings to be very low but it can be fun. Set your brakes at 3-2 and try, controller or wheel.

Also if you happen to go into a room where abs is off with your car, that car will be saved with abs off and you must go into settings to switch it( or RA menu)

Not much if at all. DS3 brakes are MUCH easier to manage than DS3 throttle, depending of course on the button they are mapped to. Just don't floor them, or adjust the pressures until you can(first method works better IMO).

Which button should it be mapped to..? the triggers? Because I have it still at square and it's either press it lightly or slam them...

Which 'button' are you using for brakes??

Thanks byegad, but my issue is resolved..... I entered into a room that the ABS was disabled... and did'nt realized it... When that happens the ABS stays OFF untill i manually change it again. I did'nt realize that was happening. Now I will allways check the ABS.. :)
to answer your question, I use the Square button. with ABS of 1, I do just fine.

Frankly how you press square is irrelevant. It's on or off, period. Try using the right hand analogue with forward for throttle and toward you for brake. This gives you subtle control of both and makes things easier for you.

No you guys don't understand that GT5 screwed up. I brake in a seasonal event & my brakes totally lock up. But before the update my cars braked perfectly. That's odd.

This is not true. The buttons (square, x, triangle, and circle) are pressure sensitive. I agree, not as much travel has the analog stick, but there is graduation to the buttons. For instance, You can rev the engine withe the X, It's not Full On or Full Off.

This.

I prefer L2 for brakes when using DS3, a lot of others prefer the stick. But it works with the "normal" buttons as well by varying the pressure you push with, and some people do just fine with it. I've tested it and could make it work, however it does require a fairly light touch to find the range.

My problem with the controller is mostly with the steering being radically different, but I find the gas to be very tricky. You can give it tons of gas and not much happens in-game, but above 40-50% throttle the rest seems to all come from a tiny portion of the stick or trigger. This might help with the X button but it's a real pain with the trigger. The brake doesn't do this and so is much easier to control.
