Online seasonal events and game balance

I'm a bit of a GT virgin. This is the first time I have owned and started to play GT for any length of time. I remember borrowing a mates PSOne donkeys years ago and his copy of GT. I seem to recall obtaining enough credits for a car like a Ferrari was seriously hard graft and I had to hand it back well before I was within reach of one. You really felt you earned the top class cars for sale at the dealers, the game was a challenge.

I recently acquired a PS3, GT5 and a G27 steering wheel so I'm quite well setup, but I have effectively skipped GT2, 3 and 4 which remain unplayed. For about a week I was playing GT5 without the internet connected to the PS3, and making slow progress gaining a few thousand credits a race here and there levelling up slowly.

On Sunday night I decided to perform system update on the console and update GT5 to ver 2.07. All went well, so I thought I'd try some of the Seasonal Online Challenges. I was amazed to see my average winnings for races jump from 5k to 70k+ credits! and with each race, and I'm jumping nearly 2, or 3 levels. After finishing about 5 races I have enough credits for a McLaren F1, and up to level 18.

This is all well and good, but I can't help feel the challenge has been taken away and the balance of the game ruined by these massive prizes and experience bonuses. Anybody else feel the same here or is it just me?

Sorry Steamingwinter, that horse has already been beat to death.

Welcome to GT5 and GT Planet.
If you need any help just PM (private message) me.

I agree the challenge of leveling up has been taken away, but there is still challenging races! Try the Ferrari F1 seasonal and when you get to level 30 you will have the Sebastian Vettel challenge! Other than those I recommended the historic car challenge on Professional A & B spec or join some good online racing lobbies! There is also trophies for getting all gold in ALL events and filling your garage with OVER 1000 cars! Good luck and welcome to GTPlanet and Gran Turismo!

Hadn't really thought about it as the "seasonal" aspect of the game came a long while after I had already levelled up to 40 on A and B spec so for me it was a welcome introduction but I can see that it might take away from the challenge if you are new to the game.

You'll find that it gets harder and harder to level up as the game progresses so it might balance out a little from here.

The other thing to consider is that the game is as hard and enjoyable as you want to make it so whilst you might find that gaining money and prizes seems easy it's how you tackle the individual races that counts. If you just want to throw money and tuning parts at winning races then it might well detract from the pleasure of the game and that was true even before we had the "seasonal" bonanza.

Welcome to GT5 BTW :)

Thanks for the replies, I guess it was a hot topic at some point. I'm enjoying it, so can't complain too much. I'll try a few live online races once I get more practice!

The only thing that truly annoys me is that online is now a lot more fun thanks to spec 2 but the XP and Cr. rewards are so minisicule compared to grinding seasonal events the incentive is lost.

People complained a lot about how long it took to build money and experience, so they tried a variety of different things to speed it up. Then of course people complained because it was "too easy." So it goes.

With the 200% bonus, I don't think A-Spec is that bad now at least as far as getting through the A-Spec "game" itself. EXP isn't even hardly an issue anymore unless you use easy cars and win every race on the first attempt. But eventually you'll just want to get all the cars and that's where the seasonals come in.

The balance is very odd, but that's nothing new to the GT series, really. Every game has had WILDLY variable difficulty and reward from event to event. In the earlier games it usually came down to finding the race that gave you the most valuable prize car and then winning and selling it repeatedly. In GT5 you can't do that anymore, so it's now just re-running the best paying event

I think part of why the seasonals pay as well as they do now is that the game has been out for a long time already and that makes it easier for new and re-starting players to catch up.

The events are still challenging for example any 650pp race you will not win if the first two cars are the Mclaren F1 GTR and the Pagani Zonda LM so i highly doubt there not challenging out of balance maybe

Actually, you can win, if you use either of those 2 cars.

You can win with quite a few other cars too, even ignoring the possibilty of using better than RH tires. Of course there are some cars at roughly the same PP that it is impossible or at least very very difficult with, like the Ford Falcon.
