What's your opinion on the PD servers?

I personally hate it, i have a strong internet connection with a good bandwidth, however i still get messages such as you have been disconnected from the server. Its really frustrating!

Worst implementation of online play ever!!!

I have a decent "NAT 2" connection and suffer from frequent random disconnections.

I regularly experience other players' cars that don't follow a smooth driving line but rather jump around the track like they're on ecstasy.

At other times I get meaningless messages along the lines of "You can't join this server right now. Try again later!". WTF does that even mean? Server full?

I brought my ps3 to my mate's place and we tried going to the same online server only to realise that he could not see my car and I could not see his. I'm sure this has something to do with NAT / ie. the same outgoing IP address. But still - I've never seen this with any other game.

GT5 online is like a box of chocolate. You just never know what you're gonna get when hit that "Open Lobby" button!

i think the 'you can't join this server right now' message appears when the race is starting inside the room.

Right, I'm starting to see a trend with your posts. Why don't you just try finding one of those GT5-love-fest threads and spend your time in there.

Online, in my and all my friends' experience, is absolutely terrible. NAT type 2, DMZ etc etc... we've tried everything. No luck.

Tell me, why is it that every other game we've ever played together on, it works perfectly....?

PD servers have been great! other than downtime due to maintenance ive had zero issues.

There are so many things going on and your data is routed so many times that theres almost no way to tell whos at fault.

Besides I believe this is also a P2P game so the server would be whomevers room your racing in. Your connection cant make someone lousys connection their hosting with better.

Sorry to say, if you have the black screen and message 'you have been disconnected' that means you have been kicked. It's nothing to do with the servers.

I personally have never had any issues with online and think PD have done a great job.

The servers are very picky about connection quality. Make sure you join rooms with the reception bars all the way up, or you could have issues.

I host rooms that are more often full than not, with 16 people. Very rarely do we have lag issues and it's almost always one or two individuals and never the entire lobby. I've been astonished at how accurate the gameplay is. It's almost like a first person shooter in terms of latency accuracy, and maybe better than some fps games (Bad company 2's hit registration! arrrg). So far, it's a solid 9 in my book.

This is not true. Some of my friends have this issue of being disconnected shortly after joining my rooms. After resetting their ps3 the problem is usually fixed.

It's really great to know that, at least, PD have made a quality guide for online gameplay.

I've been dced so many times...The last one really pissed me off. I was racing a 12 lap nurburgring endurance race. And I got dced on the 9th lap 50 minutes in...

First, I always thought the PSN servers belonged to Sony and not PD. Someone please educate me.

I have been disconnected for no apparent reason. I know a few of these were me getting kicked out of a room (crybabies or hypocrites) but there's no explanation for the other times... it's BS. My internet connection tests just fine on a regular basis.

But my biggest gripe is the slow loading or "connecting" times. To see if I can even deal with a room's restrictions, I have to go through this long loading time crap. Then if a room's restrictions are not to my liking, I exit out (to the main GT Life menu no less) just to find another online room that looks promising, and I take the gamble again, loading.... loading......... sometimes the restrictions are fine for me but the race is starting and I have to scramble to get in a suitable car, which is aggravated by the slow online menu switching. I will admit, once I find a good room, the experience is sometimes sublime. It can be really awesome! But clearly there are some bugs still to work out. I think since the online feature is "free" with a PS3, well... you get what you pay for. They are cheaping out and only investing as much as they have to for the experience to not be a total failure.
