Online tyres glitch?

I just experienced something weird. A hour ago I entered an online room with the tyre restriction set to sports medium. In advance I had bought a new car and fitted it with sports soft tyres as the car came with sports hard. So I didn't have the sports medium tyres but somehow I automatically got them when I entered the room. So I left the lobby and went back to my garage and the car still had the sports medium tyres and it seems I just got them for free. At least I didn't have to buy them manually as usual.

So I wanted to double check and entered with another car with sports soft but no sports medium. That car also got a sports medium tyres automatically. Then I tried to select a car which only had sports hard but for this I had to buy a set of sports medium. Anyone noticed the same because it's certainly a first one for me. :dunce:

If you use a car with tires that are above the restriction, the game automatically fits the best available compound on the car.

So is it really meant to be like that? I did some more testing in the meantime and that's definitely how it works. What I find weird about it is that I don't seem to spend Cr. on the tyres that the game automatically fits below the restriction and they remain to keep forever. It's not how it works in the tuning shop. Even if you start out buying racing softs you still have to buy the other tyres offering less grip (unless you let some event restriction add them for free). Where's the logic in that?

It probably isn't meant to be that way but that is the way it happens.

I'd rather it force it to where you have to purchase the tires like it does offline, or force you to only use cars that have the available tires for them.

It's been like this for a really long time. Thankfully, PD has never done anything about it. It removes the massive problem that having to buy tires can cause for racing.

Why is it a massive problem to buy tyres? I'd say it was a problem when you couldn't do it in the setup menu.

Because then everyone owns different tires, or no one owns anything but RS tires. We should have been given every tire for every car from the beginning. Online would have been much better off.

If there is a tyre restriction everyone will try to match it and I still don't see why it would cause problems to buy tyres.

It was changed in patch earlier, but they've come back to this. Why? Probably because you weren't able to choose a car online when it didn't have the tires that were meeting the restrictions.

I think I saw a thread on this ages ago, its just because you had to have the same tyres as required by the room.

Because back before the last update you would have had to exit out of the lobby and go back to the tuning shop to buy more.

But it doesn't work this way if the room allows tyres which have more grip than those you already have. Then you have to buy them. I don't see why we shouldn't buy tyres which have less grip, we just get them for free instead. They must fix this in 1.11 because it's an exploit of not using the tuning shop.

And let's say there is a room limited to 500 bhp and comfort soft tyres, so you're going to your online garage to change to your brand new GT-R and... oh, it's not there because it doesn't meet the restrictions, so garage doesn't even show it. Perfect. No, I prefer it just like it is now.

What has historically happened is people ask why it's not RS tires and then leave.

Because you have to buy tires in GT, a lot of people just buy RS, and then they seem to think that no other tire exists.

It's true that now we can buy tires in online lobbies, there's at least a way around that, but a lot of people are still RS addicted.

Wouldn't it be smarter if they just fixed it and let us select any car we want instead of hiding them away because you didn't buy the right tyres yet? They hid them away because we couldn't buy new tyres in the lobbies to begin with but we can now. 💡

I think I understand what you mean now but let me say this. I think some people stick with racing soft tyres because these tyres are extremely forgiving on a road car and they don't care about realism. I don't see why ignorance from such players should give PD a reason to leave an obvious exploit in the game. So it's probably best for everyone if the same people leave the rooms with a tyre restriction. What happens in the first corner if some people really think racing softs are fitted to their cars all the time and the game automatically adds comfort tyres without them noticing? Massive collision in first corner and half of the field quits in frustration. To raise a point against your initinial argument, buying tyres would not really cause massive problems for online racing. Just my view on this.

This tire glitch has been around for quite a while, no real bother as you can't actually have higher grip tires than allowed, you just get tires for free...big deal.

What is crazy is everyone loves RS, even on low powered cars and it just feels all sorts of boring. I recently went on a buying spree and bought sport hard and sport soft tires for every car and the racing softs as well, but i fit the majority of my specially tuned street cars with SS or SH depending on the type of car it is. It's a whole lot of concentration involved when using sport hards and they have better grip loss communication than the racing tires. You guys should definitely try using sport tires more the racing tires just make things too easy and allow for some incredibly ridiculous antics on the course.
