Open diffs?

I can't seem to find anyway to get open diffs in this game. I try to do single wheel burnouts to test and i always leave two lines. I tried with the volvo station wagon with the default diff.

It bugs me that all cars have default LSD in this game and it bugged me in gt3 too.
 
I don't think it's possible, the lowest setting is 5 I think. I think 60 represents a locked differential though.

Set any car to 5/5/x and that's as open as you can get. Any car with enough power to spin the wheels, will spin one wheel if you just turn slightly while accelerating.
 
Some cars do have 0/0/0 differentials from the factory and they do behave as open diffs... But from a standing start with no steering input you'll still spin both, as you would with an open diff and perfectly equal traction.

So with all that explained in GT5 you will never have a open differential. An open diff. has no mechanisms to force the power to the wheel that is not spinning. The closest you can get is setting everything to 5 but you will still not have a open diff. Hence the name Limited Slip Diff.

Also you will never have a fully locked diff. either. With the settings at 60, one would assume they mean 60%, so they have the springs and clutch plates in the diff at a setting to where 60% of the effort still goes to the wheel thats not spinning.

Now if we could have locked diffs it would be wonderful for us Drag Racers but Circuit Racers will go crazy wondering why they have crazy tire wear and the car wont turn for poop.
 
Try to drive most pre 80's American muscle cars, Charger, GTO, Challenger, Camaro, they have 0/0/0 default stock LSD ( open diff ), go to track with slow corners, try Grand Valley East Reverse, fit comfort tires, try to mash the throttle when exiting the corners, very noticeable on the corners after the tunnel, the esses and the last turn.

Want one wheel, single line tire marks, start a race at Daytona Road Course, use the cars I said above, launch hard on 1st, be ready to counter steer as one of the rear tires burns.

0/0/0 LSD is one of the things that PD has done right for classic American muscle. (I hate how you can do ECU tuning on muscle cars.... WHEN THE ENGINE DOESN'T HAVE A COMPUTER!)

Yeah my Miata had an open differential, and even with my turbo installed it would spin both from a start.

Yeah but you can still do most of the things an ECU tune does (changes to fuel mixture and timing) but I guess they just figured to leave it all under the same part in the tune shop to make it easier.

Yup. I hope GT6 has a lot more tuning improvements.

Dude, did you read the OP? He said he wants to do single wheel burnouts and I said "I don't think it's possible". Then I said I leave my LSD on default because in my opinion it is open diffs and it might help doing single wheel burnouts because Lock diffs certainly wont help.

So I really do not know what you are on about..."Too wrong"....:crazy:
 
Get into one the 60's or 70's 'Merica Muscle or pony car, fit comfort soft or medium tire, disable all aids, take a note of the default LSD, should be 0/0/0. Go to Grand Valley East Reverse, mash the throttle exiting the tunnel, push hard on the coming up hill esses, notice that one of the inner wheels will spin and leaving black tire mark + cloud of smoke.

Now buy custom LSD, set it to 5/5/5, run it again at the same place, see the difference ? Not yet ? then use 5/10/5 or 5/20/5 or 5/35/5( increase only accel ), run the car again ... something should be different...the rear wheels will have more traction, but when the rear breaks loose, the outer wheels should turn red 1st ( spins ) then if kept pushed - usually followed by both rear tires sliding.

My understanding that setting the initial to 5 = open diff, regardless of accel/decel settings.

0 = Open
5 = as close to open as you get in GT5 with custom LSD
0/0/0 = Open LSD
5/5/x = As close to open as you get in GT5 for the accel portion of the custom LSD..will spin the inside wheel on most street cars on comfort tires exiting just about any corner.
