I just bought a 36" Seny Wega 100hz tele and was wondering what sort of setup i would need to get the optimal picture & sound from my ps2 games, especially Gran Turismo, ive heard about RGB & S-VIdeo, which 1 is better and how do i actually use this stuff? Any help is appreciated.

Plug your ps2 into the S-video input on yor tele. It's a huge difference from the scart.. You can buy a S-video cable on any store that sells ps2:s

thanx, do i have to do anything to the ps2 settings, u know the rgb out or wotever it is when u setup the ps2 for the 1st time? and is S-video definetely better than RGB?

There could be some settings on your tv that has to be changed, so if you hook it up and get b/w picture it's just a tv setting that needs changing.
It's no big thing, just read the manual of how to fiddle with the s-video input type of signal. About the ps2 I don't know but it should be in the manual.

The differences shows well on swiss alps reverse, which is quite dark on rgb. My bro's got a s-video setup and it is like playing a new course.

Don't ask me why I haven't got it myself if it is such big improvement.. I'm lazy. :D

if u got component inputs on ur TV then use those. component video is better then S-video. component video > S Video > RGB
component video splits the video 3 ways, S video splits video 2 ways, and RGB is 1.

fo optimum sound, u need a reciever with a Dolby digital and DTS decoders and w/ at least 5.1 chanels, at least 6 speakers ( 2 front L and R, 1 front center, 2 rear L and R, and a powered subwoofer.)
the front L and R should be earlevel and the center should be as close to the tv as possible

use the optical digital output on ur PS2 and connect that to ur reciever's optical digital input.

don't get cheep ****ty small wires, get some nice monster cables (they make them for the PS2, and u just need a regular optical digital cable)

in the settings for the PS2 u'll need to select the YBC or what ever thing for video output (instead of RGB)

Yes, component is light years better than S-Video. I have component inputs for my PS2 and I will never use anything less again.

Hmmm.. mabye I got it all wrong. Is component video the plug w 5-6 connectors or is that s-video?

[edit] just checked it out, component is 5 single audio-like plugs.

what tv uses component connections? mine doesn't and it's quite new.

Some new TVs don't come with component inputs, but your Sony Wega should have it. Component is definitely the way to go. I'd use it if I had a TV that took component.

thanx for the help, i was wondering is this what im after or do i need better quality cables.

does anyone know a link where i can read up about this properly?

EDIT: i just read the full spec on my tv and it doesnt mention anything about component in sockets! i cant beleive that, £1300 on a tele that i cant get the best quality picture out of! please tell me im wrong.
