Please change my status from "Reserve" to "Tuesday". I won't know about Saturday availability until a few days before.

Update. I won't make the 12th. Be at a birthday party. But good for Tuesday.

I'm gonna have to sit this one out, BrandonW. My awesome skills isn't cutting it. I've tried all the cars out. My best car was the Audi A4 but I'm still way too slow with lap times. I'll just be in the way especially with the reverse grid race session. :nervous: So it's best if I stay off the track this time. Sorry.

Hope you guys have some good racing!
I'll look out for other event/series you come up with in the future:tup:

Very gentlemanly of you Ace. I don't mind if you run though, I'm nearly three seconds of the pace of Marcus with my best laps being in the low 2:05's. :dunce:

I should be in the lounge around 3pm EST for some more practice if anyone's interested.

Ace, you should definitely get down. I recall racing side by side with you on at least one occasion for several laps and was very impressed with your execution. Pace is irrelevant. Last night I had some terrible lag in all but the last half of the last lap of one of the races we did. I was around a second slower per lap during the races than in practice/qualifying just moments before. So much so, that I even caused a crash at the start at Monza.....and the lag only seemed to subside when I was a distance from other driver's on course. Tor couldn't even see us at one point. My purpose is; it's the luck of the draw, and there is a fair chance that even if you were at the back of the pack that I would be there with you as well.

I do understand your position, however, and respect any decision you make. I just felt the need to say that your concerns about pace are largely unwarranted.

I couldnt see you guys on the track for the 1st two races or during the practice laps. It just looked like you were in the lounge, but not on the track. Leaving the room and coming back fixed it though. Ill make sure I clear my cache before saturdays race.

Ace, hit up Marcus for some practice sessions. The guy is amazing at helping you improve. Turn again iirc he is instructor of sorts. ;)

I'd ask you to reconsider you are part of the group and nobody will feel your in the way.

Your call in the end. Hope you do think it over.

As well I'm willing to help but know Marcus would be the best option.

Finally back home. Hoping to make both dates.

GTP ID: dsgerbc / PSN ID: dsgerbc / Both

Tried a few cars, and apparently I'm rusty as hell. Barely getting into 2:04s in the fastest.

A ton of downforce in the CLK is nice and all, but judging from Johnny's league, cars with high cornering speeds are at a disadvantage in a race with cars running similar lap times. Extra 2-4 mph in corners aren't enough to drive around a slower car that is ahead and driving the optimal line. And even if you can get side-by-side at a corner exit, a slower-cornering car will usually out accelerate you to the next corner. The only way it has a chance of winning - if somehow it can save you a pit-stop.
On the other hand, if one is looking for lots of side-by-side action not ending up in passes and is fine with zero chance of victory - then it's the car to choose.

All else equal, cars with higher straight line speed have a strategic advantage in this kind of a race.

I could start a "I'm slower than you are" conversation, but Brandon would put me on the naughty step.

Seriously, my laps are 2:06+ and actually being on track with the rest of the group actually helps. GP/F isn't a favourite track of mine and I do struggle to make consistent laps, but I'll be there for the craic and hopefully learn something too.

I wasn't able to join in at the weekend but I should be online later this week (8PM+ GMT) and you're welcome to join me in the gravel at Dunlop.

*goes off to google "naughty step"* :dunce:

I managed a couple laps that dipped into the very high 2:04's but I'm mainly in the 2:05's (sans draft) and so far I've achieved my best times using the Beemer. So I'll likely be towards the back of the pack to keep you company!

@DSG,
Good to see you back! Hope your vacation was marvelous. 👍 The Merc is a bit slower on the straights, mostly due to weighing as much as a pack of elephants, but that extra aero really makes it handle well. In a hot lapping contest it would be fairly even but in race conditions it will likely be at a small disadvantage.

That being said, I'd encourage anyone who's turning laps in the 2:03's (or lower) to consider driving the Merc for the races in the hopes of balancing the field. I don't think it would be huge disadvantage and considering a good portion of the group is in the high 2:04's, 2:05's and 2:06's I think that having the fastest guys in the Merc could provide more balanced racing. I'm not going to force anybody to drive the Merc though, just a friendly suggestion. :)

Sigh, I wish...

Any practice sessions before the race?

I won't ask. :sly:

I'll try to be on this evening for a final bit of practice, probably not until around 8pm EST though.

A reminder to everyone: The first of two races is tomorrow night! These are independent races, you can show up to one or both. No points but I will send a prize car to the winner from each night. Hope everyone has chosen a car and I look forward to seeing you all on the starting grid tomorrow night!

IMHO I think the Merc is one of the better cars. It has great tire wear and can make it into the 2:02s.
This is a huge late apex track so it can use the corner speed.

I'm sure most of these cars can make it into 2:02s in your hands. But I think it will be hard to get decent lap times out of this car in traffic.

I agree, but it does force you to be nearly perfect to get the best out of it. If you have a bad exit you will suffer more than with the other cars. In my initial testing I was fastest with the Merc but haven't been able to replicate it since.

I'm interested to see the cars people have chosen, I hope we get at least three different models represented. I'm sure we won't have all six but hopefully we don't end up with just one or two. 👍

I think I will join you guys tomorrow night if there is room. Pretty sure I will be in the A4, but that could change. 👍

Haha thanks for the endorsement.

I will gladly help anyone who feels they would benefit. I don't necessarily turn the best lap times, but I can certainly help folks identify what they can do to maximise their use of the car.

There a bunch of really good people here, Ace, and a number of us happy to help if you'd like. You, or anyone else are welcome to pm me.

It is good to see a lot of you folks return again. I hope to be attend tomorrow evening. I'll be joining you folks at the rear of the pack after my first of many pitstops, so watch out.

Pretty sure I will be in the A4
The slowest car for me. And it sounds too angry.
TT-R is the fastest for me. I'll probably run either the Astra or the Beemer. I take back my thoughts on the Merc. It's the easiest to drive consistently, and it's lap times don't fall off as much after a handful of laps.

Make sure to splash a few gallons of fuel during pit-stop. This goes for any car.

Odds are pretty slim at this point of me making it. New wheel, no seat time in any car with this tire/track/wear combination, bogged down at work...etc. We'll see how it goes:grumpy:

Hope you can make it. Did you finally upgrade to the G27?

REMINDER: Tonight is race night! I should have the lounge open around 7pm EST for pre-race practice, qualifying will start at 8pm and the first race (4 lapper) will begin immediately after qualifying. There will be a 5 minute break and then the 20 lap feature race will begin with a reverse grid. Hope to see a full grid of Touring Cars tonight!

The ORCA_Champ lounge is open for pre-race practice. Qualifying will start at 8pm EST sharp! Qualifying session will be 10 minutes, once you enter the pits/track do not exit to the lounge or you will lose your time. First race will be a 4 lap heat race and the second will be a 20 lap feature with reverse grid.

I'm at a family Christmas party, and it looks like it is going to be a late night so it doesn't look like I am going to make it tonight. Such a great combo, bummed but I am going to have to miss tonight. Good luck guys I will let you know if something changes.

Well done tonight Sag, I think you got the double header. 👍

Nice driving all around this evening. It is really great to see you folks tonite, and it was a pleasure to drive with everyone.

Congratulations to Sagaris on driving to the win. We had a great bunch of drivers and you made the run.
