EDIT: Do you guys have a preference on a track for the vintage cars? My general thinking is that they do better on shorter courses with some tight turns, helps keep the field bunched up and (hopefully) everyone in the draft. Clubman seemed to work really well with these cars, I had a couple issues with the full SSR5 though. Tsukuba is right out, just impossible to pass at that circuit. I still like these cars on street circuits as it makes it feel like a chase scene from a 70's coppers movie. London? Madrid? Monaco? I'm open to suggestions, we can try a few out tonight if anyone will be around.

I agree that the wide open high speed courses are less entertaining with this league of cars. As long as we stay away from the Fujis and such, I think we'll be alright. Nurburgring!

I should likely be available this evening.

Yeah, I know that one was borderline but I figured since it was a cartoon I wouldn't get in trouble. It's also depicting an actual event! For those who don't know, Max Mosley was the head of the FIA and was caught coming out of a house of ill repute that was known for Nazi fantasy spankings.
 
Man, these cars are fun! There are some slight differences in them but they seem to race very well together. I think I like Madrid most of the tracks we ran at tonight, seemed to keep us fairly bunched up but had a few places to overtake.

So far, I liked racing on almost all of them: SSR5, Rome Reverse, Madrid and Monaco. There's at least one safe overtaking place (i.e. the longer straights) on each, but with these predictable cars and their lack of super pace, there is potential to go side-by-side in many other places. Not easy, but racing shouldn't be.

I didn't much like London. Maybe it was just a random bad race and I certainly didn't help myself by hitting walls at an alarming rate, but it was by far the tightest and it certainly felt it. Didn't seem to be anywhere to overtake either.
 
I agree about London, it was like bumper bowling. Very narrow, tight, with no runoff and lots of punishing walls. The cars looked great there though! I normally don't take us to street courses because they're not very forgiving and sometimes lack good braking point markers, but these cars seem to work on them fairly well and I just think they look fantastic in the city setting.

Right now I'm leaning towards Madrid. It's long enough to give us room to breathe but not so long that we'd get really strung out. It has several spots where overtaking can safely happen and since it has a few decent length straights there should be some good drafting. During our warmup I wasn't overly impressed with it but the door-to-door racing turned out to be very good and we managed to stay in a fairly close pack, that's the kind of thing I'm looking for. So unless there are any major objections I think we'll call Madrid our home for the "official events". I have a feeling this group of cars will see more than just the one week of events, so if you're not terribly thrilled about Madrid don't worry because we'll take them to a proper race course next. :sly:

I've honestly had more fun just testing these vintage cars than I had during the second Silvia season. They have really got me excited for racing again. 👍
 
Madrid was great fun. I have never seen the old cars on comfort tires formula go wrong. Seemed like it was close.

Wish I could have stayed but I had my wheel setup for the first time in weeks and wanted to give the C7 a go.

I was able to hang with you and Owens for several laps at Madrid and you were both in fast cars, that was a sign to me that the car/track combo was good. The pic I posted was from that battle, the three of us drifting through the final hairpin and we all came out unscathed. Good stuff, and I'm quite looking forward to more of this. 👍 I'm thinking either the week of Feb. 12th & 16th or the following week of the 19th and 23rd, we'll do the same Tuesday (8pm EST) and Saturday (3pm EST) time slots as we did for DTM.

EDIT: I will likely be around again tonight if anyone is interested in some more practice/racing.

Nice pics Marcus. I can give you a couple tips as far as the settings go. When you're in the viewfinder of the camera (where you can control shutter speed, f-stop, etc.) hit triangle and set your aspect ratio to 16:9 and your panning mode to "2" (this allows the road and background to be blurred which creates the sense of movement). Also keep your shutter speed around 125th or 250th of a second to allow for things like blurred wheels which also add to the sense of speed. If you want your foreground in focus but your background blurry use a low f-stop, F2.8 or lower (this doesn't always work, depends on the conditions). If you want some vignetting (dark corners) use a higher f-stop, around F22.


Is anybody going to be up for some racing tonight? If we can get a decent group I'd like to do a mock-event with two or three back-to-back races to make sure all the PP "penalties" work as planned. Or we could do it tomorrow afternoon and get our euro-friends to come play too.

Haha I know what occurred prior to that shot being taken, but I felt it more comical to caption otherwise.:lol:

I appreciate the points regarding the photo settings. I was unaware of what the panning mode would affect. My initial thought was "I'm panning with the joystick already" hahaha. I didn't change any of those elements after that. I was a bit perplexed as to how I could make it seem like I was following the car rather than standing still, so that makes perfect sense to me now. I am familiar with the effects of some of the settings, and in the shot of you and NC(I think) in the chicane at Madrid I used a lower F-stop to distance the cars a bit. Shutter speed I left way too high. I set it there for one of the group shots, and left it there as I hurried through the rest of them. It was getting on a bit late, so I only spent more than a moment on a couple of shots. Some of them I was too lazy and even used the default camera placement haha. When I have more time I'll have some good ones in future. Thanks for the tips.

I will try to be round the lounge this evening, but I am not absolute regarding my schedule as of yet. I'll likely be there, as I am interested in seeing the PP penalty executed in a larger audience. I am confident it will be effective.

Panning mode 2 = 50/50 blend between 1 and 3.
It will follow the car that is in focus.

You were in the red 240Z at Madrid. That is you in the b&w shot inches from Brandon tucked in behind Owens. That is you and Owens under braking in the 240 and Skyline, and you entering the first complex in a cloud. I don't think you attended any of the following sprints. The other two sprints we mostly just drifted around; as evident.
