:( This is a very sad day . Our bassett ( i think thats right ) hound was stolen . He was about a year old and was playing in the front yard . Then white car stopped and opened the door and he got in .He was a very friendly dog and loved every one he met. I tried to get my keys and catch up to the car but he must have turned on one of the side roads . I never saw the car after that. :( :( Its just very sad when you cant even let your dog out in your own yard. Sorry but i thought maybe some one here would understand. And just needed to get it off my chest

Did you get the license plate number? Because if you did you can phone it in to the cops and they will probably get the dog.

STOLE your dog!!!, kill him

this is outragous, i feel sorry for you:(

No i never got the plate. I was in the back yard ,as our yard i call it ,the front is around 1 1/2 acres and back is around 4 acres .The car was an late 80's early 90's gm olds or chevy lookin kinda like a corsica style. I had to run to the house and get the keys then go after them. And as to who would steal a dog some A$$ who needs a good beating. there have been alot of pure bred dogs stolen in the 3 area counties around here this year for some reason. I hope this person messes up and i see my dog as he has is what they call a blue bassett they are pretty rare i am told . i have only seen 1 other his mom.

Sorry to hear that, Id beat some serious ass if someone stoll my dog or atleast smash there car with a bat or something.

BTW if you ever want to see your dog again it will be $400 :trouble:

 that is insane...I hope to god you get it back.... I know if that happened to me I would hunt them down....I killed a bird when it tried to attack my dog when it was a puppy...I am very over-protective.....time to get the guns!!!

good thing it wasnt me in your place...i probably would have ended up running after the guy and killing him.

taking somebodys dog is plain out ridiculous:tdown:

That really is the lowest thing I have heard anyone do in quite a while. There are some real pricks out there, if someone had done that to me I would grab the car (i keep my keys in my pocket at all times, you never know when you'll need em and chase them down and murder the bastards (well at least beat them half to death).

Who the hell steals a dog?

Criminals. This no joke, but napping is quite big here in SoCal. A friend to my wifes family had her English Bulldog ripped right out of her hands. Any dog lover here knows how much Bulldogs go for, so you can easily see the reason for dog napping.

Basset Hounds are not cheap, either, I take it. This sitiuation sucks, because the Police wont to do anything about it. Did you file a report with the police, anyway? Are you going to check the local papers for anyone selling a Basset Hound? Did you contact any vets to see if anyone brings in a Basset? Make posters, and litter the town with them. Say the dog was stolen from yard, and give a discription of the guy and vehicle if you have one. Do NOT put a add in the paper offering a reward! Scumbags here in SoCal claim to have your dog, then demand cash delivered to a private location, then they simply rob you.

I hope I helped. Be carefull, and good luck! 👍

I did call the police and with what info i had they said it wasnt really worth a trip out . i live about 25 min. from one town to the east and around 15 to the west. the closest neighbor i have is around 1/4 mile down the road. And this town only has around 150 people in around 15 to 20 square miles so nobody saw any thing. I just hope who ever took him really wants him and not hurts him.

And yes he was quit expensive . My mom paid 1400 for his mom. Because she was a blue colored basset . And he was the only blue pup she had.

check the pounds, you never know if they thought it was a stray. Btw, even a partial plate number and the make can be a big help to police.

Have you phoned the cops? Because that is grand theft canine right there. Give them the description of the car and pay them to put out an Amber Alert (Indiana does have that, right?). I wonder why I haven't heard about this in the news...

Probably because stealing a dog is not worthy of headline news a couple of states over :odd:

I really hope ya get your dog back!

I thought this was going to turn out to be one of those threads about mourning the death of a dog; but after reading it, it turned out to be even worse, and I understand your pain.

That why you always get dogs in pairs. A beautiful expensive one and a vicous (sp?) beast that will kill anyone that touches its target. Except for you and a few chosen others of course.
