Over doing it?

Very narrow minded...

So there you are, driving the car you just crashed at 125mph head on into a barrier, and it's low on power and pulling to the left. Yet, the body of the car and other visual elements remain pristine

I know that visual damage has no affect on the driving (I never said it did) but it has a huge impact on portraying that level of realism that PD are striving for, and hence your enjoyment of the game. Please don't tell me that you would be happy with just mechanical damage and no visual representation.

I'm not saying it's not important. I'm just saying it's less important than the mechanical damage. I think scartches on most cars is enough.

Fair enough, but if it came to a choice, I'd take visual over mechanical any day. For me, it's just a game. Seeing my car bashed up is part of the fun. Limping around the track isn't!

In australia we call them 4x4's, and an impreza is actually an awd and not a 4wd there is a difference.

AWD and 4x4 are the same, there is no difference, an Impreza is AWD meaning all 4 wheels are driven so 4x4.
You may call some vehicles 4x4 because it's a different category ( Land Rovers, Land Cruisers, Jeeps, etc. ) but that's just common use of language not implying AWD is no 4WD.
The only way AWD is no 4x4 is when a vehicle has more than 4 wheels, for instance a six-wheeler with AWD is called a 6x6.

Actually, there is a difference according to accepted nomenclature. Vehicles labelled 4x4 usually have a manual switch to engage/disengage the other wheels. AWD vehicles are typically always in 4x4 mode, with the other wheels engaged/disengaged automatically depending on conditions and relative wheel slippage. Once in "4x4" mode, there is little difference that is true.

Granted, there are different types of 4x4 i know, but it is mainly a use of language which distiguishes both and has developed over the years.
Today we would probably call the original Audi Quattro an AWD, but back then it was referred to as a 4x4.
The term which i would prefer to use is All Terrain Vehicle ( for Land Rovers, etc. ), but they seem to be used mostly today to describe quads. ;)

You can never ever over do it.

Agreed whole heartedly, Gran Turismo contents wise has never let me down, sure there are cars I'd still like to see but if we all got our wish the game would never be released.

Delays aside I think the developers are including way too much content in gt5, there's rally cars, f1 cars, NASCAR, and Indy cars. Why don't they create 5 different and dedicated sims? I'd be happy to buy a dedicated rally and f1 game if made with gt5's engine. I'd rather they spend more time on including more road cars.

Most cars will be road cars, and probably the main reason why i love it so much, but also like my racing/rally cars to be included as well.
The time spend on both are probably the same and i like a game like GT which encapsulates everything so i don't have to spend my money more than once.
The only other dedicated game they make is TT, as it seems logical to be a seperate title although i wouldn't mind if they were merged.
As for different types of vehicles, i'm open minded to anything, as long as it's fun and recreated according to real life.
And with the extremely long wait i expect an extreme amount of content.

No, the visual damage has no affect on the driving. Mechanical damage can end the race there if it's big enough.

The visual damage is... well, just visual.

I know that visual damage has no affect on the driving (I never said it did).

Uh....have you guys ever heard of aerodynamics? Visual damage screws up your aero big time; if something like an F1 or LMP loses its wing, it becomes nearly impossible to control. Even if we're talking about a little 200 HP sedan, you still lose speed and cornering ability....

I think you need to sit back and not take life so seriously. Don't get me wrong, I agree with your observation, so to avoid further argument, let's just say that I'm not bothered about any aspect of damage, visual or mechanical, having an impact on handling and performance. It might be unrealistic, but then again, I'm playing a game...doesn't get much further from the real thing than that.

They're trying to compete with ToCA, Forza, and a few other console games at the same time, and they want to do it in one, complete package. I'd rather buy this one package than 5 of them. 💡

This is obvious IN REAL LIFE. In game, however, it would be hard to implement. Stuff like spoiler falling off might be easy but when we are talking about body deformation affecting the aerodynamics that would be hard. I doubt they'd go that far.

And I'd say that's more like mechanical damage rather than visual.

You're both right about 4WD/AWD, it means different things to different people. IMO, a 4X4 has a low range and a way to disengage either the front or rear wheels. An AWD will not have a low range or a way to disengage the wheels. Also, 4X4's are generally meant for off-roading, whereas AWD's are meant for on-road stability in less than favorable conditions. This is just the idea in my mind of the intention behind these vehicles.

AWD = Normal car with 4 wheel drive (Impreza, many Audis, GT-R etc.)

4x4 - pro. 4 "be" 4 = Off road vehicles (Range Rover, Land Crusier etc.)

Thats how I'd put it anyway :)

I'd go along with that summary 👍

Me too.👍

I think this is a symptom of people getting accustomed to too many crappy games out there that lack content. Or developers that release half a game and then want to hit you up for DLC later on.

I guess when the status quo is garbage... you expect garbage.

You need to demand more developers put time and effort into their games.

Not the other way around.

The reason developers have been putting less in the game and putting DLC out is because more people are waiting for them to wind up used at gamestop for cheaper. Developers don't see a cent of used game sales so they have to make up for it else where. DLC is the easiest way.

There are plenty of ways to get around that without making bad products or nickel and diming people.

Fail of the century...

Like what?

The only thing I can think of is limiting installs and I don't think Sony would allow that.(The only thing I thing developers are allowed to lock is game saves)

This man speaks the truth, although to me atleast it is kind of a captain obvious statement. Piracy + wanting extra profits (which i guess piracy falls under) is the reason for dlc, PD have thankfully said that we will be getting the complete game when it launches, and then they will have a full team working on online and dlc.
