this game can get infinite content if the custom races were decent and we wouldnt have to wait for updates for boring chase the rabbit races imagine if we could like :
  • set a race with FF . FR . MR 4wd
  • set a min or max PP limit
  • set car region
  • set turbo / NA races
  • manufacture races
  • make the payouts decent
  • no more rolling start races

the possibility is endless

what do you guys think ?

I’m using a spreadsheet to run my own garage championship at the moment. When I get enough cars it’ll be multi class racing weekend meet, at the moment I have an old classic mini, beetle and fiat racing an R32, GTO twin turbo and 2015 mustang, as well as the FF cars accumulated since the start.

Would be nice to be able to have the option to not drive one of the cars so you can race your garage without your own interference, a Bspec Bob race to really see who is the king in your garage.

I’ve been enjoying just being able to pick grids in the first place, it’s never been a thing before in GT and it’s pretty fun.

Although I do have a short list of things I’d like improved besides larger payouts:

1. Have the chosen AI cars from your garage use the applied tire compound rather than defaulting to their stock setting.

2. Add in a random opponent selection using PP range and other values. The game has a tag system and could use it here to great effect. Basically a filtering system identical to GT6’s car search would be perfect.

3. Add a few slots to save certain configurations so you don’t have to recreate the same race constantly.

4: improve the random opponent selection for cars where it really doesn’t make sense like the 919 LL Concept for example.

I'd like to see more flags added for the AI drivers, at the moment we don't have a Swiss flag so I can add a S.Buemi in the TS050 but would have to make him French.

I do like the custom races though, once the garage is built up it looks like you can have a lot of fun with it, Assetto Corsa had a similar mode and it was one of the few things Kunos got right on the console version.

I advocate all possible improvements in these races INCL. increased payouts, but only if PD manages to stop all rubber band cheating ectr. For example, a kind of punishment if too many driving mistakes like wallriding are made, which reduces the payout again.

The ability to create, share and monitor a custom race/championship with friends.

Agree with you on the B-Spec race point, I've been trying to game it a bit by adding myself in as the 19th competitor and finding somewhere off-track to park and allow the race to go on unhindered, but the yellow flags sometimes play havoc with the AI. More testing/quieter spots to park required I think!

Sorry for the necropost, but I've just got back into GT7 after about 3 years and I'm loving the current state of the game, sort of. I wish there were some improvements made to the game though, specifically the custom races:

  1. Ability to add liveries to cars without having to buy multiple cars
  2. Smarter AI that doesn't always select RH tyres and actually has multiple pit box and race strategies.
  3. P1 indicating and yielding when I'm chasing them down on Nordschleife even on hardest difficulty. I know this is normal for slower drivers irl, but why does P1 have to yield as well?
  4. Ability to create championships. Why is this still not a thing? I'm a massive GT World/British GT/IMSA fan. I'd love to create my own custom races, even though the game doesn't have all the tracks necessary I can just swap out for some of the tracks in game.
  5. This is something more of a preference; I race in VR and not having any race info is a massive pain. I'm not sure how difficult it would be to code the grid order and delta and I can't imagine it would have a huge impact on performance. Even better would be to have a toggle to switch it on and off so as not to encroach on the immersion too much.
  6. Mandatory minimum pit stops and/or tyre compounds. This just needs to be a thing no matter what.

I'm heavily into the custom races so I'll answer each in turn

This ability would literally break the game. For example, the only reason to buy cars for Sport Mode is to apply liveries. If you don't need to buy any car, for any reason, why would you?

Who decides their strategy and why?

Also, hot take, pit stops only exist because they are mandated, not because they are better for the sport. In this game, the racing is better without the mandated stops.

What I have found however, and it's something this community has missed, the HEAVY DAMAGE is the setting you want tot turn on. It makes the races very unpredictable and alters AI behaviour depending on the conditions. I'm finding that this setting to be as necessary as weak boost.
  1. P1 indicating and yielding when I'm chasing them down on Nordschleife even on hardest difficulty. I know this is normal for slower drivers irl, but why does P1 have to yield as well?
This is the part of the regular AI for the Nordschliefe because it's set up to emulate a track/day or multiclass. Use Sophy for these races, it doesn't yield.

Yes, it would be nice, but it can be done with FANTASTIC results if you just use an excel sheet. I've created a decade of Formula 1 and when I'm done, I'm going to apply what I have learned to other series (DTM will be first).

You can follow my races here -->https://www.youtube.com/@Voodoovaj-GT

Ya, I don't know - Answering for continuity
  1. Mandatory minimum pit stops and/or tyre compounds. This just needs to be a thing no matter what.
You can essentially do this by increasing the multiplier, but I would argue that you shouldn't bother with mandatory stops and opt for heavy damage instead.

I will test the heavy damage on longer races at some point to see if the AI quality holds up over time.

why would it break the game??? if you want to race in Sport Mode with a Gr.3 Beetle with a specific livery on, you still need to buy the car.

and in custom races it would avoid having to buy many cars you already have just to make a grid with nice liveries
if you just use an excel sheet
lol, so convenient...

For VR, I'd add to @imfast_af_boi's points : make flags more obvious (by displaying a message, like on flatscreen maybe, I passed cars a number or times under yellow flag without realizing it and got myself 3s penalties, annoying.

You answered your own question. You have to buy the car to apply the livery.

You can already have full grid without the purchase of a car. If you want something custom, you have to buy it. If you can have custom grids, with custom liveries, without having to purchase anything, then why purchase anything at all?

It literally breaks the game

I didn't say it was convenient, but it's a work around.

But if people would rather sit and do nothing, then sit and do nothing.

You answered your own question. You have to buy the car to apply the livery.
I think you've missed what he was saying, he didn't say allow it without owning the car, rather he means to own a car once and be able to have that car in custom races with different liveries you own/have for it and not have to own the car multiple times to have it in Custom Races with multiple liveries.

And as for game breaking, we're talking about setting the AI, not the car you use. In the World Circuits races you don't have to own the cars in the liveries the AI races in. You purchase cars in the game for you, the player, to drive and race, not the AI.

What I would love to see with Custom Races is the ability to share them along with their custom grids between players like we do with liveries.

Ahhhh yes, that would make more sense. Similarly, open the car and select a different tune. Who knows, maybe some day, but given they want to earn from the purchase of credits, anything to reduce credit churn will likely get thrown out.

Yes, but all the mechanisms for applying tunes, or liveries, or any customization, exists outside of the custom race in GT Auto. So, they would have to change the basic functionality, which right now revolves around what is in the garage/your ownership.

I'm not opposed to the idea, just that the game has no connection between custom races (in the track menu system) and customization (in the GT Auto menu system)
What I would love to see with Custom Races is the ability to share them along with their custom grids between players like we do with liveries.
Now this should be a no brainer because it is EXACTLY what the single player is. If the users could share a custom race, just like we share styles now, others could download and use them. Now, THIS would be a much easier task that applying customization to cars you don't own because the player would never have to exit to any other new menu system. They would just load the custom race, and that custom race would have all the information.

I would LOVE to do this with my F1 series.
