Haha, so I got the game yesterday... I'm already sick of it. Played it all day yesterday, all day today... I've been stuck trying to get a car for the European Classic Car race... IMPOSSIBLE. I should have bought the Europa. Anyway, anyone else feeling the way I am?

Getting there. Im running into too many things that are turning me off, losing the desire to play. Without damage im basically just mashing all the competition out of the way in every race, even if my car is significantly weaker than everyone elses, all I have to do is ram them over and over and ill win. This is an arcade racer right now.

Apparently you need to get to level 40 to unlock real damage. Lol, play for 100 hours to get this game to start acting like a sim. So lame. People are doing it online a lot, its just bumper cars since there is no penalty for it.

look for classic car in the "Used" car section. In order to get one, you'll have to check back every now and then, and often.

There is little incentive to play as a sim, i.e. there is no damage, no penalties for cutting, no penalties for crashing etc, hardly any restriction so you can blast the opposition with upgrades.

Therefore, you need to try and impose your own boundries, by trying to race clean, and trying to win with a car of a reasonable level.

But I do agree that some of the strange design and technical choices by the dev team make doing, what should be some of the simplest things, a chore, like buying a number of used cars for example, that is needlessly drawn out and painfull.

I hope the dev team continue to improve the game in the near future, because at present, I think the longevity of the title is in question, especially if you need to grind, and grind to get to a level that finally makes the game a challenge.

I just kinda feel like I'm wasting my time in career mode right now since none of my lap times are being saved and there are no leaderboards. What happens if I hit that perfect lap during a race but have no way to rub it in my friends faces? I just don't think I can bear it :(

I don't see myself getting tired of GT5 any time soon, although the hours I put in are sure to drop soon enough - as they do with all kinds of entertainment once the initial rush is over.

I play racing games - at least the ones with decent handling and good wheel and force feedback support - for the joy of driving. Completing events, earning awards and other goal oriented activities are very much secondary to just being able to take a car I love out for some laps around a track I love (I estimate I've spent at least as much time so far in arcade and practice time trials as I have with actual events).
And that never really gets old.

I'm finding myself really annoyed with the a.i. and all the drive like a madman because you have to pass everyone in one lap to win challenges.. Seriously, if you're going to make me race, at least let me qualify first and then give me enough laps so I don't have to be so agressive to win.

Whenever I don't have to deal with the a.i. though, this game is an absolute joy.

I'm lovin it. Played so much my hands hurt. (Also, having FF on 9 wasnt a help, changed it to 7, much better) Loving B-spec, whilst I take a "brake" I have Fred out makin me money and unlockin cars!

Hmmm can't you just save the replay of the race or something??.

Can you send the replays to people? I know they said that GT5 would have youtube uploading but sadly, that feature is absent at launch too.

I know that I can just take pics of the screen with my phone or something too but seriously, this is 2010, I don't think that online leaderboards in a racing game is too much to ask for.

Knowing them even the replay's would be probably locked. I also remember hearing about the youtube upload feature, and was puzzled as to why it wasnt included within the game at launch.

Now the online leaderboards is a biggie. I see an update has just been released (1.2?). Do you know if this was fixed in this update?. Ive been reading of pretty bad issues with this update, so maybe i wont install it just yet.

Shame we have all this crap going on with the game because for the most part they did pretty good with it. I for one wont trust a word Kaz says anymore regards future GT releases though.

If are stuck on the European classic, you could always buy an E-type or the likes in the used car lot, but I would recommend working on your driving as buying faster cars aren't a great solution.

Jag E-type :D Ive put that into atleast 3 posts in the last 10mins but it will Munch its way through that lot with a bit of tweeking and loves to slide. Keep the 4 speed in it as its good ratio's for the courses :)

I'm at level 16 and already slowing down with the game. I will do maybe 2 or 3 series a day now. They really did a good job spacing out the cash flow. I've had to sell standards and loophole cars into other races to avoid grinding (Dodge Challenger '70 vs. the 70s supercars was crazy. Basically had to slam into the 1st place car at a corner I knew I could do it at and then just keep ahead of everyone)

I used the '65 Alfa Romeo Guilia Sprint GTA I got as a prize car from the Italia race in Amateur. Had to pop a couple power mods into it though.

The incentive to play the game as a sim is the desire to play a simulation racing game. If you find yourself mindlessly shunting cars out of the way, that's clearly what you want to do. If you really wanted a game to race clean with, you'd just do it.

I've been playing a lot the past few days, not even slightly bored. It's everything I knew it would be.

To enjoy Gran Turismo...you need to feel it. You need to have a little bit imagination, passion... you need to become a kid again. Pretend you are really in nurburgring, cruising around, with your classic monster...that you love, enjoy the ride...wash your car, read about its history, and so on.

If you are winning races smashing other cars, hiting the wall at 200mph just for fun, and stuff. Really, the game will not last 1 week for u.

Gotta admit guys, I have fallen back in love with the game as if it was Day 1. :)
Got the 512BB, OUTSTANDING car. Got past that series and moved on quite nicely. Haha, my hands hurt! :sly:
Been taking nice photos.

I did the same thing, that damn Europa was tough opponent though.

I'm probably more into the game after days of playing. I was playing black ops non stop before the release and have no desire now. I'd rather play GT5.

I did that in GT3 so much I just couldn't do it much in GT4, and now am so disappointed that that's all I can do in GT5 till PD gets their act together and releases many needed patches to make the game enjoyable for me. Even hardcore fans are fed up with the same ol same old. :indiff:

Its hard to race clean when the invisible barrier around my car makes contact with the AI while im still 4 feet away from them(bumper cam). Also the AI puts their cars in park, get out, grab a broom, then sweep away any loose pebbles, then get back in the car........... adjust the mirrors, adjust the climate controls, check the gauges................ then take the corner like an 85 year old blind Senior Citizen. They are in no way competition. I get aggravated when I get a great run outta the corner only to have an AI car slam on the brakes on a straight away even.

I don't want to compare to FM3, but they did get car to car contact spot on, the same with car to wall contact. GT5 has alsmost no consequences to bumping and grinding the AI cars or walls...................ALMOST. Until you check you chassis repair bill, with no dents, scrapes nothing visible, I owe $130,000 to repair the chassis. But for what, the car handles great looks good, so should I just use my imagination to make me want to avoid the slow AI, and poor collisions, and pay an exorbitant amount to repair nothing?

Overplayed?
Not really, although i do think the career mode is a bit dull. But the main aim of the game is racing online, that'll last forever.

See you on the ring!

If we're talking the first ASpec level European Classic, I stomped it with a '61 E Type Jaguar. Used Car section, 22K or thereabouts.

Talking about the '61 E Type Jaguar, even though I tuned that car up to 440 CV, it still doesn't run faster than 220 Km/h... why is that? With 440 CV it should reach much more speed! (And the engine is mint, and I have upgraded almost every possible part!)

I had the same issue .. Keep visiting the used car dealership and hopefully you'll find a good'ol'car like Jaguar E-TYPE
