Even the Budgie Smugglers can vote in Australia

In fact, it’s compulsory, and that’s a very, very, very, VERY GOOD THING! Especially if you actually care about Democracy.

(The compulsory bit, not the Speedos)

Hint, check out the print on the bloke’s backside.

I don't entirely agree that compulsory is a good thing over optional. It doesn't get more people into voting as if they are a serious voter and more just muggle the results more if they prefer to stay home otherwise (and partially why we are stuck with a pseudo Two Party system even though we have to means to prevent it with preferential voting). "It's mandatory so I should care how to vote" is not a sentence or phrase I heard from anyone.

It does help political parties not have to forcibly go for rhetoric to encourage said people to vote since they have to do it anyway which stops political races leading to extreme attention seeking being the aim of the game so that is the positive in it.

Yay it's democracy sausage day.
Get up and vote people if you haven't already done so.
Did early voting back on Monday. Despite the lure of a good sausage sandwich. Wasn't going to waste a perfectly good Saturday morning standing inline and running the gauntlet of people trying to stick flyers in my face.

Don't particularly care for either party. But if the polls are correct. I am looking forward to the Sky News meltdowns.

I put the major parties near the bottom, Labor over Liberal but Labor only 4th on my ballot.

The only parties they are above are One Nation and Trumpet of Patriots. I put my Independant, Greens and the Weed Party as my 1, 2 and 3 (not in that order)

Yeah same for me, voted last week.

Also don't really care for either party but potato head is the last person I would like to see in charge. Hopefully you are correct and I may actually watch a some Sky News tonight just for the crying and excuses.

I’ve done a good job at avoiding political ads in the lead up to the election, but what I’m really appreciating this year is the lack of corflutes in SA.

That Trumpet of Patriots. Holt smokes! Can't wait for the ads to be over. They're killing my feeds.
If I saw a Trumpet handing out fliers in my booth (there wasn't any surprisingly) I'd be so tempted to say "Why should I trust your party with money and jobs when you don't even hire a Graphic Designer for your logo and use A.I slop"

Who are you calling potato head? A man who is far less pathetic than Albo? Hmmm.

You're right. Voldemoort is more appropriate.

This guy was at the forefront of Liberals terrible policies (especially screwing over the Healthcare industry when he was Health Minister) and how to vote flyers indicate how much worse they are than when ScoMo was around (wanting to put One Nation in 2nd. At least ScoMo wanted you pick Labor over them).

I dunno, leaving your home state while it goes through a natural disaster is pretty pathetic.

Boycotting the apology to the stolen generation was pretty pathetic.

Joking about the outcome rising sea levels will have on the Pacific Island nations was pathetic.

Failing to declare the huge fortune (near $15 million) amassed in a family trust as a sitting member of parliament is illegal and pretty pathetic.

Manufacturing a terrorist plot against himself to make his political rival look weak is pathetic.

Throwing your support behind a convicted sex offender, George Pell is pathetic.

Specifically requesting white South African refugees is quite pathetic.

Denying health care for a suicidal 12 year on detained in Nauru (but also using your ministerial powers to help out your buddy when his French migrant workers are detained) is pathetic.

Dismissing the rape of a parlimentary staffer as “he said she said” is pathetic.

Not knowing where you stand on any issue and just flipping when the polls come through is pathetic.

Needing to have your wife to tell the country “he’s not a monster” is really pathetic.

I could go on for much longer but you get the picture.

I was going to bring this one up as well, it says everything about the arsehole we are talking about.

Moving forward if @ScottPuss20 finds potato head a bit offensive for his liking I'm happy to go with Temu Trump or as @Com Fox has mentioned Voldemoort.

As previously mentioned, I'm not a huge fan of Albo but when it comes down to it, it's Albo or potato head. I know where I stand and your post pointed out many good reasons for that.

Looking at it from a Labor and Liberal perspective this is an absolute squash match.

Sadly seems minor and third parties are also getting caught in this annihilation.

Where can I find James McGraths Copium? He seems to be loaded on the stuff

James McGrath is coping hard on the ABC coverage.

Antony Green has called the seat of Dickson for for Ali France. Bye-bye Voldemort!
Heard them really, really laying into the greens party a little while back. The fact that they think they can get away with calling them a bunch of racists is some of the most incredible lack of self-reflection I've ever seen. I guess American politics has normalised the idea of “Anti-zionism = Antisemitism”? Incredibly backwards.

And that’s where I think the Liberal Party went wrong, tying themselves to the Conservative talking points imported from the US. It seems Australia is well past that culture war bull****, thank god.
I sincerely hope you're right. Never want to hear my human rights being used as a political football ever again.

And now Jacinta is saying they never did it and it was all a Labor trick.

Do they just not know what accountability is. Take the L.

Currently, our centre-right party is losing more ground than was predicted and it is looking very likely our centre-left party will retain government. Still quite early but the swing is strong enough that many analysts are beginning to call it.

Thats the very short version

@Aphelion covered it but for a bit of background context for the excitement here, heading into the election campaign it was looking like the right leaning coalition of the Liberal-National parties would form government. Labor has been gaining ground over the last month or so, but were looking at holding a minority government at most. So the swing back in their direction is massive.

After all has been said and done, it looks like not only have the LNP lost ground, opposition leader Peter Dutton has even lost his seat.
