I don't entirely agree that compulsory is a good thing over optional. It doesn't get more people into voting as if they are a serious voter and more just muggle the results more if they prefer to stay home otherwise (and partially why we are stuck with a pseudo Two Party system even though we have to means to prevent it with preferential voting). "It's mandatory so I should care how to vote" is not a sentence or phrase I heard from anyone.Even the Budgie Smugglers can vote in Australia
In fact, it’s compulsory, and that’s a very, very, very, VERY GOOD THING! Especially if you actually care about Democracy.

It does help political parties not have to forcibly go for rhetoric to encourage said people to vote since they have to do it anyway which stops political races leading to extreme attention seeking being the aim of the game so that is the positive in it.
