Page numbers

When looking at the "New Posts" or any other thread listing, threads larger than 10 pages will always list their page numbers like this:

( 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 … Last page )

However, that doesn't seem very useful to me… why would you want to see pages 2-10 of the "What are you listening to?" thread? Seems to me that something like this would be more useful:

( 1 2 3 … 787 788 789 )

That way, if you know you need to "catch up" on the thread a bit, you have that option (instead of having to go to the Last page and then backtracking). Threads that are still 10 pages or less are fine as they are though.

[edit]: On that note, would you mind if I closed the current "What are you listening to?" thread and made a new one? I imagine 15,000+ posts puts unnecessary strain on the server.

I like the idea. It will lower post counts and i noticed it loads very slowly...
 
It won't lower post counts. I'm just planning on closing it, not deleting it. (And even if I deleted it, post counts still wouldn't go down, because deleted threads are just moved to a closed forum in case they need to be reviewed in the future.)
 
Well, whatever. It will still load quicker.

Coolies! I didn't know if you'd have to submit that to vB or not, but if you can do it on your own, then more power to you.

I used to frequent a site that listed three sets of three numbers. In a thread with 100 pages (for example) where you are currently viewing page 34 (for example) it would give you ...

<< 1 2 3 ... 33 34 35 ... 98 99 100 >>

That way you can see the origins of the thread or the current status of the thread easily from any point, in addition to the near converstation to the posts you are currently reading. But I guess the "First" and "Last" links do essentially what I am talking about here so I'll be quiet now (:
 
Sorry I havent read all of the post but could we have a feature that is in I guess every thread saying Jump to page # ______ ( Insert number in the blank and then click go or search or something. )
 
That would be a good idea. Both the way it currently is and the way LOUDMUSIC suggested don't allow you to jump to middle pages in the thread. You have to keep hitting next, next, next, or last, nowhere inbetween.
 
For me, the last page button works just fine for threads such as the "what are you listening to thread", but it would be useful to see the numbers for middle pages in the OLR forums, where seeing missed posts is more inportant.
 
I still haven't received any help for something like this - we probably won't see it until GTP7.
