Paint Chip Glitch

Has anybody noticed lately that sometimes, when you paint a car, the paint chip doesn't get used up? I've had it happen a few times lately.

Its odd though, as some days it works as intended and other days it allows me to infinitely use paint chips, albeit not every one, just random ones.....Anyone else noticed something similar?

Are these DLC paints? Because I remember PD saying they had a fix for the DLC paints, but when I use them, they're not there...

Sometimes the game stores the same paint chip under different listings, meaning you might have 2 Verde Ithaca's, and then further down the list you could have another 1, and even further down a third listing with 5.
So you actually have 8 of that color, and then when you use one, it gets all mixed up.

So it could be that, or related to that issue.

Never seen this before. And I paint lots.
Sorry if this seems a silly question, but are you absolutely sure it's not that you had multiples of the same paint chip?
What do you see happen?

I haven't tried it with the DLC paint chips yet, but It happens with virtually every other 'standard' paint chip. Its bizarre.....I suppose you could call it a helpful glitch, of sorts, as you get unlimited supplies of paint, but i'd prefer it if it wasn't there to be honest.

@watermelonpunch - I paint a car or the wheels, double checking beforehand that I have only one of the paint chips then paint it. Then I go back into the paint chip menu and its still there, as though i've never used it!

CSLACR may have a point, but i'm 99% certain that I use paint chips that I have one, and only one of, but it doesn't get consumed.

Hmmm... Have you tried using a paint where you know you have 3 or 4 of the same paint chip, and check the count? That would be a way to rule out CSLACR's idea.
Have you had any other glitches generally?
How full is your items?

Well the thing is, I've sent paint chips I had "1" of, only for them to go to "0", but I can keep sending them. This is how I discovered having more then 1 listing for a paint chip, and no, they don't get listed side-by-side either, so that makes it even harder to catch.

Even if you sort by hue, they don't get listed in the same order, if that's what you're thinking.

Yeah, I've noticed this... And I've never quite understood why that is, or if they're actually different chips... ie: different manufacturer with same paint colour or something like that. Sometimes I think they might actually BE different colours. Like I swear there's several different shades of British Racing Green - all called "British Racing Green".

The best way to find them is to sort by item name, and then make a count, & track it that way. It's the only way they will get sorted next to each other in the list.

Most likely this. I've had 1 of a particular chip, painted a car, and then still had 1 of that particular chip. It seems to do weird things if you've got the same chip split over multiple entries.

I've had it go from:

<chip name> 1
<chip name> 2

Using the 1 paint chip, not one of the two, to:

<chip name> 1
<chip name> 1

It's actually even funnier for suits and helmets if you're using the ones that came as part of the DLC and could be won prior. It allows you to turn tradable items into non-tradeable, and the other way around.

I've had this happen:

<helmet (non-tradable)> 1
<helmet (tradable)> 2

Now delete the non-tradable one, refresh, and now you've got:

<helmet (non-tradable)> 1
<helmet (tradable)> 1

Not good, but, it also works the other way around.

<helmet (non-tradable)> 1
<helmet (tradable)> 1

Delete the tradable, and you've got left:

<helmet (tradable)> 1

Go figure. Didn't try to reproduce it on a grand scale, but that's how it worked for me.

I gifted some chips tonight, and the counter will actually go to -1 if you keep gifting the same chip.

Not had any glitches whatsoever before this.

I check the quantity of paint chips beforehand, and also the entire quantity of chips I have, then paint a car but I usually still have the same amount of paint chips in that particular colour and paint chips overall. So it looks like i'm getting free paint jobs.

Yes it's happened to me twice yesterday.

I bought the RX8 Concept in 'RX8 Yellow', then an hour later I decide to tune up my RUF 3400S.
I go to GTAuto, Oil it, and then think to myself, this would look good in another colour - maybe red or yellow (it was in black).

So I go to Paint Car, and then go through some of my colours and preview RX8 Yellow, which I had just acquired, and it displayed a quantity of '1'. So I paint it that colour and leave the GTAuto.

Then I go back to my garage and think the car would actually look better in White so I go back to GTAuto, go to preview paints and 'RX8 Yellow' is still there!

This has also happened when painting my wheels blacks, or dark greys. Only sometimes though, as other times the paint actually is removed after its only use, like its supposed to.

Maybe its a wider ranged glitch but its so minor that the majority aren't actually noticing it.

Ok Betelguese, if this is, in fact, glitching, and you don't use up any paint, see whether you can reproduce it. And if you can, post the exact steps on how to reproduce it, so everyone else here can test it out as well. If it works, you'll get all the credit! ;)

This ^^^^^ It also happens with gear.

Thing is, I don't do anything in particular, nothing different, I just paint my cars. Like I said in my original post, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.

Indeed, but if thats the case then why do I still have the same number of paint chips overall after using one?
