LOL, here's how NOT to shrug. I had my buddy phone video me shrugging 675lbs today. Instead, it just shows how much bounce I'm getting with that much weight. My legs are going, arms, full body, looks like I'm on a trampoline.

Anyways, I think when I get that heavy, I really need to slow it down to keep the bar from bending which is creating that extra bounce at the bottom.

Anyhow, for your enjoyment, 675 lbs. for 12 reps.

Ok, I take back some of what I said, they're not looking that bad compared to some of the other Youtube 675 lb shrugs out there. :D

Man... Envy. I don't think I could shrug anywhere close to 400 when I was in shape... and even now... :nervous:

Awesome, Pako, congrats on that big number! I've always enjoyed doing shrugs - it's always kind of surprised me how strong the trapezius can be.

Bah, thats nothing. My belly weighs more than that and I lift it every time I go to the washroom.

Thanks guys!

I know it. The traps can take so much abuse it isn't funny. I think with clamps, the bar will let me put on 8 plates for 765 lbs. That's my next goal after I can shrug the 7 plates with a little more control. :) Beyond that, I'm out of weight as the weights are all rubber coated to keep the noise down, but they also add quite a bit of size to the weight reducing how many plates I can slide on the bar.

You'll have to start shrugging your car. But, yeah, those looked more like 1/16th deadlifts than shrugs.

And, hey, why is it that almost every bodybuilding video on youtube has Disturbed playing in the background?

I would like to figure out how to strap in and give my wife’s Corolla a little lift, just to see if I can, but yeah, I hear ya on the modified partial deadlift shrugs. That's what I was talking about. From the front and looking into the mirror while I'm doing it, I have no idea that my entire body is absorbing the weight as it comes down. That's why I'm thinking if I just slow it down, the lack on inertia should reduce that body bounce that I'm seeing in the video.

I wish our gym played a little heavier music. Their playlist is for the cardio gals, not the meat heads throwing the weight around. Sometimes we get blessed with heavier 90’s metal which works for me.
Can’t tell you why all the Youtube vids are coupled with Disturbed…., it would be nicer to lift to instead of the bubble gum pop rock they play.

Dang I sure wish I could see youtube videos at work. I always like hearing your mass updates and gains. Did you end up reaching your arm goal? 20" I believe?

Not at all. On a really good pump, I measure in at 19" arms. Another inch seems impossible right now, especially doing it naturally. I have no plans on getting all juiced up. Where's the satisfaction in that. :)

If I have to settle on 19" arms then so be it, but I will hang in there and stay with it.

It goes to show:

Pako lifts 675KG
Formula 1 car without driver weighs 605

All that needs to be said is Pako is a freaking machine!! Awesome work to do a full rep set at that weight! 👍 I mean, really awesome. How long have you been doing weights at that level for??

*Makes mental note.....Pako looks like he can break dudes in 1/2!!* :scared::p

Oh, and is this your long lost twin Pako?? :D

Once again, awesome work. 👍👍 from me on that. I can appreciate the amount of work people do to make their bodies like temples. Me, I prefer to treat my body like it's a bachelor pad. :O

If Pako could shrug 675KG... Holy crap!

Leg press yes, shrug no. :scared:

@mafia_boy,

I guess it was late last summer I started up into the 7 plate range. Started out with just a few reps, and as you can see I am getting up to a 12 rep range. Two years ago I was shrugging 3 plates and gradually added more and more weight. As Jordan pointed out, the traps are an amazingly strong muscle and grained strength quickly. I need to watch the rest of the body parts to make sure I don't rip a shoulder, pop a vertebrae, or hyper extend any tendons. In looking at the video, I should be slowing it down and shooting for the 8 rep range. After all, without proper form, what you lift really doesn't count in my opinion. I don't know about Goldberg being my twin but he looks an awful lot like my wife's cousin. He's a big boy..... :D

Wow! Pretty impressive, buddy! :)👍

(glad we're all exactly alike while online...)

^Agree with every word of it

Completely amazing, Pako! Or should I call you Chris now? :p I hope I will be like you someday! 👍 Go on with the great job, of course, take your precautions!

Almost exactly alike. I think you're a better speller than I, and seem to remember you had frag superiority. ;)

@Codename L,

Yeah, you can call me Chris if you want......I've been here for 7 years, you can call me by my birth name if you choose...even if it seems weird, and yes, I am very careful. :D

Impressive!! 👍 Get totally motivaited by this:)

I have just started training again after a VERY lazy period, I have lost about 5-10kg pure mucle mass in 2 years period :(

Pako, why don't you do dumbell shrugs? Not enough weight?

I do switch it up, but the gym only goes up to 120lb dumbs. Last week I did two sets of 60 reps with the 120's, then followed up with a 1-2-3 hold set for 30 reps.

I will say my form is a lot better with the dumbs, but my traps only get sore now when I go heavy on the barbell shrugs.... :D

I'll get a tape measure when I get home, money says my biceps aren't more than 7 inches

Mine are 16" relaxed but I got fatceps. :D

Sounds like you have a good base to start with, which makes gaining muscle mass easier for "our" body types. I really feel sorry for the skinny guys in the gym that are trying to put on muscle....it's as hard for them as it is for me to get the fat off.

👍

NICE! 4 inches better than you thought! 👍

Ah if only I payed attention to my muscular and cardio-vascular strength, myself and a few friends are all reaching the 'hey we better start going to the gym soon' stage

 It happens to all of us. I was 16 when I hit that stage. I wanted the ladies and all, great motivation for getting into shape. :D
