PAL AI worse than JPN version?

I've been playing the JPN version for about 3 weeks now (I bought a ps3 then and couldn't wait for the PAL version!) and the AI seems to have taken a backward step in terms of brains. 'Wild' is the word I'd use as it seems every car takes to the dirt at some point during the races. I've been steaming through the races with ease not because I've already been playing it for 3 weeks but because my rivals can't keep on the tarmac! Anyone else notice this?

Has the penalty system been lessened as well? As of yet, I've not had one penalty on the PAL version not matter how bad my driving whereas before the slightest tap and I was facing the 5s countdown. I'm starting to wonder if the game has been re-tailored to the slightly less hardcore PAL audience like some games do occasionally get.
 
I thought the penalty system was the same ..... gets more aggressive and less tollerant of faults as you go through the licenses

The AI seems a bit better to me .... i was racing earlier and overcooked a corner and lost it .... the AI directly behind me more or less came to a halt to avoid hitting me.... the AI going off-track is better .... makes it feel more varied

Just cos its AI doesn't mean it can't and shouldn't make mistakes
 
online, standard races, penality system is a lot less strict... but I am not sure that it doesnt get stricter on pro modes?
 
The penalties don't kick in the PAL version until the A or S class races, I think S class because I haven't had any in the A class so far.
 
I bought the PS3 and the game (PAL) yesterday and I'm currently at A Class without any helps and Pro physics and I didn't have any penalty so far, tough in Constructor's Events any wide understeer caused offtrack, any cutting apex beyond the kerbs or any contact with another car is penalised.

I think the penalty system doesn't apply at C and B class, is softened (contact with barriers not penalized I think) at A class and fully functional at S class and Works Events
