I stumbled across this indie game from another website a few days ago as it was highly recommended, I don't usually get into too many indie games but this one reeled me in. It's of a fictional communist state which has ended war and you have been selected by a lottery to work as a (the?) Immigration inspector.
As described by the developer:
Papers, Please
A Dystopian Document Thriller.
The communist state of Arstotzka has ended a 6-year war with neighboring Kolechia and reclaimed its rightful half of the border town, Grestin.
Your job as immigration inspector is to control the flow of people entering the Arstotzkan side of Grestin from Kolechia. Among the throngs of immigrants and visitors looking for work are hidden smugglers, spies, and terrorists. Using only the documents provided by travelers and the Ministry of Admission's primitive inspect, search, and fingerprint systems you must decide who can enter Arstotzka and who will be turned away or arrested.
It has a free beta that allows you to play the first 8 days (a good hour worth of gameplay if you only play through once). I might look kind of boring but believe me it isn't. Things change from day to day and there is some story to it. You are working to pay the bills and keep your extended family healthy while having the power to control the fate of people wanting to cross the border.
It just recently got greenlighted on steam after being on greenlight only a brief time:
