A 225bhp one?

Yes.

I found my parents old IS200 more fun to drive than the TT, it handled way better and the gearbox was allot nicer. Oh and it was more comfy, but that's because i'm comparing a sport sedan to a sport coupe.

If you gave me some twisty roads or even a motorway drive i'd take the IS200, even with it's anemic 2.0 I6.

So THAT'S why so many American cars are heavy and unaerodynamic. You need an elephant in front of the rear axle, facing bacwards.

As opposed to perennially looking like you've just gotten married... to the Little House On The Praire girl.

Actually I would like to know what was done to boost the engine from 180hp to 225?

Wow thats what I was looking for .

No I'm test driving Jetta GLI's right now and I'm considering buying one.

I believe you've got it backwards. They took a 225hp engine and de-tuned it to 180hp. You know that option in GT4 called "racing chip"?

Either way I would be curious how to bump it back up to 225. I take it to remap the computer? That would give me a nice number in a Jetta I think. I don't want to much, but a little more would be nice.

I would assume that re-chipping it would do what you want to do. Keep in mind it blows the longevity of the engine out the window. Have you looked for this kind of thing on Jetta websites?

But what is a sock?

That's what i was wondering ... Can somebody please answer the question?

Ultrabeat: I wish my mum drove a decent car - i'm stuck with a mini suv ....
It's ok i guess, but still, something capable of over 10mph would be nice ...

Oh I look up on VW Vortex every once in a great while. I just thought someone might know off the top of their head.

The one that was killing people? No wonder.

It was released in Europe in 1998 or 1999; that one killed people. There was never a US model released without a spoiler.

I think the TT is a pig. There are plenty of fake four seaters I'd rather have. How's that?

It's perfect. I assume you haven't driven one. It's boring vs. an S2000, but it doesn't take work to drive, and the very last thing I want to do while driving is work. The S2000 is my second-favorite small convertible, as you know, even in front of the TT. But the TT is capable too, and the vast majority of people would prefer it to the hard-edged S2000.

Which is probably the issue.

I love to work while driving. Every trip isn't about where I'm going to or where I'm coming from, but the journey. As soon as driving becomes routine, it becomes a chore - another mundane part of life - and it loses an awful lot of its wonder. Driving is what separates us from the animals (that and our inability to wash our genitals with our own tongues) and it's something truely awe-inspiring - taking a collection of metals (and GRP or CF) and explosive liquids and turning them into poetic movement (or a Kia Rio, but every silver lining has a cloud).

I want a car which says to me "I'm going this way, and next I'm going that way", and which will respond when I say "No you're bloody not". I don't want "capable" - I want "enjoyable". I don't want to arrive fresh, I want to arrive grinning like a pillock (which is handy for me, in a way).

Push an Audi TT - I mean PUSH it - and you'll spend the rest of your life sitting in the corner of a white room, wearing a white suit (with matching straps), eating 8 pink pills a day. It isn't a sports car, no matter what VAG say, or what engine they shoehorn in, or what fancy gearbox they tack on. It's a status symbol - a sports car that doesn't handle for people who couldn't drive it if it did.

I appologize, I had no idea. I will hence forth refer to it as the European-only death mobile.

Oh-Ver-State-Ment. Perfect? Come on now. It might be nice for the old geezers who want to show off the money they don't have, or the blue haired women who think it's 'cute', but it is by no means the sports coupe that Audi sells it as. Without even knowing performance numbers I'm going to say that the more attractive A4 3.2 ($36,120) will take a TT 250HP ($40,870) to the cleaners. The TT has no place in Audi's line-up where its own siblings are better value.

And I'm completely lost on this thread now that I've read through most of it again. I think we had about seven different converstations going between a multituide of people. Is the list in the first post your opinion or someone else's? If it's yours then you're full of horse poo. Same reasons I listed in that thread, plus the fact you say you like the S2000 second best in this thread when it's not in your list at all in that thread.

Klostrophobic: "Close it. Slice it up. Roll it into a ball. Cook it. Eat it. **** it out. Stare at it. Make it again."

My hero.

Personally, I don't like the looks of the TT.... It is good sports car though !
Look at this one, the ybuild it 50 km / 30 miles away from here :

MTM Bimoto TT : 2 tuned 1.8 T engines ( one in front, one behind ) with 740 - 1000 hp ( different tuning levels )
Top Speed : over 374 km/h ( over 220 mph ) : This speed record was achieved with the weakest version ( 740 hp ); over 1000 Nm torque; price 600 k EUR

Some of us are quite flexible you know :sly:

So the people who have driven everything in my list that put the TT dead last (even behind the Chrysler Crossfire!!) are wrong? Professional car reviewers? I believe their term for the TT was, "Yup, still boring".

I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion, even if it is wrong (:

I suppose it's better for the TT to be boring than deeply flawed...

I suppose. But it's Audi - they KNOW how to make cool cars that are good looking and good driving. They basically screwed up with the TT. I would go so far as to call it a "mistake".

The TT is more than anything an image car, Paul - you're missing the point of it. It was trying to put Audi on BMW and Mercedes shoppers' radar in 2000, and it succeeded at its goal. It's not a performance car, but it's brought in immense profits for Audi. The fact that we're discussing it along with the Z4 and Boxster simply proves that the vehicle has succeeded. You can call it a lot of things, but calling it a mistake is unquestionably incorrect.

Overdue pics.

That's why I dont' understand why Audi doesn't remove the rear seat in the TT.
