Parents shopping around for new sedan...

I sat in an RX-8 today and it's actually comfortable in the back - sporty too. Surely practical (for a sports car). I'd give you Christiaan Krabbe if you could find one for $35k Canadian - anything less than $42k would be unheard of.

mmhmm! There was an RX-8 at the dealer that we went for the test drive. A 19 year old kid bought it... cost him 42k is what I heard from the salesman.

My dad.. He's starting to consider, but we're going to the Automall (basically... lots of manufactures gathered in one place) and test drive some others...

Accord...
Sienna * don't ask me why.. *
And.. possibly Altima.. But I think that's kinda out of our range..

And I already PM'ed Mazkid...;)

I will agree that the Mazda 6 sounds like the best option.
seconded by the (dull, but reliable)Camry, and the (ooh, look another one) Honda Accord.

All three are the epitome of reliablity and are affordable.
Another option is to find out where the most popular rental place in your area sells its fleet cars.
They can save a boatload of cash buying a car that's a year old with low mileage.
Or a low mile trade-in. (some folks aren't happy unless they are in a new model car. Even if it looks just like last year's) We bought a year old Chevy Venture with under 20,000miles for $18K. The new one, sitting on the showroom floor was nearly $35K USD.(After the 7.9% sales tax, and the property tax it would have been flirting very near $35,000).

If they're not in a hurry, the new model Subaru Legacy might be worth a look, if they can get into the 2.5 litre motor for the money. Word from Japan is the new Legacy is something pretty special.

There's nothing wrong with the 2.3 litre version of the Mazda 6 - the US is the only country that gets a V6 version of it. Probably the pick if they're buying now.

Nope... They already told me, they want a larger displacement because that car will be loaded alot of times.

and do you not call CANADA a country?! We got the V6 version too!!

vat_man has a long history of unfairness here at the GTP. Anyway - as long as North America gets the V6, why not buy it?

Well.. my dad test drove an Altima today..... feels weird.... but another guy *from another mazda dealer* said that some nissans were made in mexico!! Is that true?!

I know there's a Nissan plant in Aguascalientes, Mexico.

Edit- There's two assembly plants, located in Cuernavaca and
Aguascalientes, a powertrain plant in Aguascalientes and an iron-casting plant in Lerma.

I was going to suggest the Acura TSX, but it's just over 35000$ CAD for the cheapest model...

Good luck finding a Mazda 6 with a V6... There barely are any, most 6s are 4s. Yeah, that sounds odd.

Hah, suprisingly PR though, alot of the Mazda6's over here in Vancouver have V6s... The engine note is SO sweet... :D

Yes. The Altima is made at the Nissan plant in Smyrna, Tennessee though.

Edit: My mom drives a 3.5 SE Altima and it is one hell of a car. I'd imagine the handling is not quite in line with that of the Mazda 6, but the engine has more power and torque, which is what you want if you will be hauling stuff. Nissan did something right with that engine.

Well now I have another question.

The engine in the Mazda6 (V6), what other cars use it?

Mazda MPV, Ford Taurus LX and SE, Ford Ranger 3.0 (various XLT & XL trims), Mazda Tribute V6, Mazda B3000, and Ford Escape V6.

The 6 manages the most horsepower out of it (210). The Escape, MPV, and Tribute get 200 from it, and the Ranger, B3000, and Taurus get just 155.

Final assembly for just one Nissan - the Sentra - is in Mexico.

All Nissans excepting the 350Z, Pathfinder, Murano, and Infiniti division vehicles are built in America (including the upcoming Titan and Pathfinder Armada, even though the Pathfinder will continue to be made in Japan).

210. Though, knowing Mazda, it's probably closer to 185...

No, it's 220-219. Doug you nay sayer!

You're mad. Quoted 210. Is Mazda lowering printed horsepower statistics again?

It's still 220. Find a Mazda site that says 210.

👍

Yes.. Mazda6s are also built in the states and not Japan.... does it make a difference?

Tell that to all the pissed Miata and RX8 owners, tell them that no Mazda site was showing 155hp while it made 140, or 250 while it made about 220.

Mazda engineers=tossers.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, they were using power ratings from Japan on both the Miata and RX-8 and were not accounting for power loss from emissions?
Don't blame the engineers, they did thier job perfectly. Blame whoever had the job of writing the specs of the cars.

Halfrace-Yellow! Hehe, that's cool. I can't see my parents driving anything yellow. It looks really nice on the 6 though. :)
They'll love it when they get it.

👍 - yeah, really - sounds great. Brilliant purchase! :D

Blame whoever had the job of writing the specs of the cars.

Blame whoever had the job of testing the cars, for it is she who made the fatal error. The spec-writer just transposes...

Deh! My mother... errrgh... I don't think we'll be getting the Canary Yellow one.. might opt for the Grey one instead.. but still a mazda6, so =)

edit: rats... they did get the grey one...

I love the dark silver. My fave color on the car except the blue. The yellow is a little too flashy for most people.

My sis just bought this Mazda6 in medium silver I think.. Looks great! Only complain I have about this car is the noise while driving, at 80 km/h or higher it can be very annoying. Anyway it doesn't matter to her and her husband since they're both deaf:lol: ...
