Update:
The RX-7 is almost put back together again, after the very disappointing practice run on La Sarthe qualifying, hitting a bump and the front suspension tearing apart, I guess that temper-mental moment on the High Speed Ring did more damage than I originally thought. What a fitting end to my season when 2 wheels with rotors, go rolling off the car, and finish better than the car did. Even better was the laughter from the mechanics when I asked them if they could have it back together by the next day's deadline.

Well, the season's over, we talk to champion Car-Less.

Hi ya

Hi

Skython: So, you have taken the Sunday Cup this season, what are your thoughts on that?

Car-Less: At times throughout the season I felt it was inevitable, and at other times I felt it was impossible. In the end I had 2 main rivals, and that was all down to car choice.

S: Didn't expect to hear a unbalance in your answer, anyway. Anyway, Was it your car choices that pulled you?

C: In the beginning about half of the field went with FWD, and look where they all ended up. The bottom of the score table. Those that started with a RWD car had a much better base to build apon as the season progressed.

S: I'd know about that, since I made the terrible choice of my much hated front wheel drive, hahaa. I enjoyed the season, but did you enjoy it?

C: It was good fun and gave me something to do in GT4 now that the UKGTP LANs have moved onto GT5.

S: I hear you, even though I do possess the GT5. You dominated at Sarthe, have you had a lot of practice there previously?

C: I did A-spec the two 24 hour races back to back in the same car. I'd hope that after some 850 consecutive laps I'd know my way around the track.

S: Wow, I could never do that in my lifetime, bet you that took either some crazy non-sleeping skills or a lot of pausing and sleeping. Back on track, do you think you'll participate next year?

C: Why not.

S: That's good to hear, but would you like to start off with more money next season?

C: It was good to start with limited funds and would like to do the same agian, but I'm happy to go with whatever the race organisers decide.

S: Good man, well I'm getting some calls on something, that must be the end of the interview, bye it's been good racing with you (answers cell phone call and walks away)

Nice interview Skython. I'll probably make the headlines for being the slowest known to man.

 Don't think like that, I've already made my bet I can be slowest :p

Anyway, now we speak to someone I suspect is Grumpy about his placing (Sorry for the lame pun, I couldn't resist), GrumpEone everyone.

S: For the Sunday Cup this season, you mentioned a lot of a problems with the Mitsubishi Mirage's gears. Can you explain what it was to clear it up?

G: The gearing in the Mirage is horrible, whenever you get stuck in low 2nd, it takes forever to climb through the gear into 3rd. 1st should be wider, and 2nd should be narrower, and it would have changed the usability of the car greatly. Also I am not too good in GT4 with a FF drivetrain, when ever you turn you lose traction and speed. My preferences are for FR's and MR's.

S: I don't think there's much people who can use FWD cars properly. But this caused you to place low, what are your thoughts on that?

G: My in-ability to control my car choice, is a major reason for my finishing so low, that in combination with the level of competition in the first Sunday Cup. There were some excessively good drivers, so good in fact, many of us were skeptical of some of the times submitted as being legitimate, but after many tries finally we were able to validate the time as possible.

S: Yeah, sadly not being one of them, I agree. So for this season I hear rumours on you starting with an RX7, are these true?

G: Yes, after the mechanics finally got last seasons RX-7 back together, I decided to buy another one with slightly less mileage. Fitting, because last season I wanted the RX-7, and was beat to it, and in the interest of variety I chose another car, well out of my comfort zone.

S: At least your doing something new, ahahaa. Did you enjoy the Sunday Cup?

G: Yes the Sunday Cup was a fun Experience, even amongst the frustration of having a car I hated by week 3.

S: Ahahahaaa, I think a lot of us ended up disliking something at some point or another. Did you feel an improvement in the RX-7?

G: Major improvement with the RX-7, back into a comfort zone, running a car with a familiar drivetrain. It was good to be in something that I could drift-out on a tight corner, and gain speed coming out of turns.

S: That was my first thought with my Subie, then I realized it was a maniac willing to murder people. Have you had any doubts on entering the second season?

G: My only doubt was with my working schedule, working 4 off-shift 12 hour shifts, and picking up 1 or 2 days of side-work on the weekends, doesn't leave much room for racing. But I should be able to fit it in.

I hope you have the time, and I also hope to race with you next season,.

 BH-21,

Now I get around to some more interviewing (I've been busy doing these). We speak to Runner up, Jet Badger about the series.

S: You were leading the series if I remember correctly, but you DNF'd at Sarthe, what happened?

J: Bad day, you know... I wasn't paying much attention to the mirrors and got some kisses to my car's rear and then kissed a wall with the front.

S: I've heard a lot of that happening, though I've never had it. Are you annoyed at losing the lead at the final round?

J: A bit. The MR-2 wasn't a good choice, though it was the only mid-engined car in the season.

S: That surprises me, as I expected it to be the best money can buy you. More on car selection, you started with a Mazda RX7, another RWD. Do you think this helped out?

J: That was probably the only reason why I got in the lead at the start. The RX-7 is no doubt the fastest car you can get for that money. And I was lucky to be the first to post my purchase, I think anyone in my place would've done the same.

S: I was tempted on purchasing one, but didn't because I noticed you had all ready done so if I remember correctly. About the MR-2, how is the lighting it on fire going, and why was it a bad choice?

J: Before buying it I did a small testdrive and then I thought that it handled quite funny - it was powersliding in every corner - fun, but it didn't helped for the times. After the first week with it, I thought that I should've stayed with rotary Mazdas and upgraded to a newer RX-7. Now it's raining outside, so my inner pyromaniac will have to wait. :)

S: Ahahaa, my Subaru is already a horrid lump in my backyard blackened with fire. You also had a bad time at Nurburgring, how much anger did this create?

J: Nurburgring has alot of high-speed corners, and my Toyota liked everything exept them. Driving it was like a lottery - you don't know if it will stay on track or not. Toyota likes to give me surprises, like reducing its traction to nothing in higher speed corners. Or any other time.

S: So it's a mid-engined version of my Impreza in other words. Other than the little mishaps did you enjoy the season, and are you in for next season?

J: Yes, it was great fun and I'm in for the next season :)

S: Thanks for speaking to us, and good luck next year.

It seems my interview transcription got lost in the mail, so here it is / was.

Sunday Cup interview

You placed third in the Sunday Cup, are you happy with that?

I guess you've got to be happy when you make the podium, but I hung on to my little Mx-5 for one week to long which cost me a bunch of points, and a shot at finishing further up.

Are you happy about stealing my third position? (my face screws up in anger )

Whats this "my" business, that and your three DNF's at the final round mean's I think you gave it to me, more than me taking it. hehe

As I've asked other racers, did you enjoy the season, and will you come back next year?

Yeah it was enjoyable, everyone was friendly, yet competitive (especially early on).
Maybe, i'm busier with work now than I was at the start of the season, so we'll see.
EDIT: yup def a bit to busy atm to do the 2nd season.

You started off in a RWD Mazda, did that help or did it make life difficult?

It worked out ok. Considering it's lack of straight line speed (see wk1 straight line times, I was last in all of them), I think I was just lucky with the order of the tracks. For example, if we had started with the enduro's and worked backwards it definitly would not have been such a good choice.

Youe ended in another RWD Mazda, was that coincidence or are you a Mazda lover?

The RWD part was definitly not a coincidence, but the Mazda part was. I said at the time that they're both Mazda's with pop up headlights, but thats about all they have in common. Well that and they both handle really nicely.

Thanks for your time,

No worries
