I won't. I have long since disabled Windows Updates. I have no need for it, considering most of the original OS has been hacked, chopped, or modified. I see no need to manipulate my perfect setting.

I have updates enabled on the main PC and the office, but the laptop is disabled. I can vent long and hard about the issues I've had, and the months it took me to unravel the SP2 issue.

It's taken me weeks after downloading to get it resituated and back up to speed after an update.

So much so, that the next machine at the Der Alta compund will be an Apple.

On my pc, there's no problems... but i also don't bother with windows update. My laptop is still on SP1, as with all the computers at my brother's office and at the place where I work right now. My reasoning is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"

But update it. :)

By the way I have Windows XP Proffesional with SP2, in the earlier post I meant that I disabled the auto update feature.

SP2 installed just fine, I don't understand how anyone would have problems with it. SP2 actually fixed some things, like Bluetooth, which works pretty damn good now.

In the case of my my bro's office as well as where I work, SP2 seems to cause some software fubars that we don't want to risk getting into. My laptop is actually being leased from the school and the reason I don't have SP2 on it is because the technician is a giant douche :)

I don't think I'm going to bother with these patches. I can't be arsed updating and I've chopped Window's Update off at the knees by disabling the required services anyway.

Oh, and I've installed SP2 without any drama. 👍

Well, my first problem started when I installed SP2 on my laptop. It took me neaerly two months of searching around the web and reinstalling/uninstalling 5 times before I finally found one little quote buried on a dell support page.

It seems SP2 only affects the model laptop I have (Inspiron 1150) in this way. It rolled my 2.6ghz chip back to a 384mhz chip. Dell support didn't have a clue, nothingon the web, no MS support, nothing. ANd then again, hwo would I describe it to support? "I installed SP2, and my computer runs slow as crap". MS response "Well, no duh, you're running windows." (No they didn't say that, but were just about as helpful as that.)

I have a list as long as my arm with the problems I've had installing updates on this latop top. And it's been documented on the web that this laptop model has problems.

Yes, I know "it's the laptop, not SP2" But there's more, and I don't have the time to get into it.

What really burns me, is the PC I have dl'd SP2 just fine. Arrrgh!
