PC Sim Racing Newb. What Do I need to get started?

I was hesitant to suggest Injection because there's a big difference in price and he might not enjoy it. However, I've just remembered there's also a demo so Injection would indeed be the better choice seeing as he can try before buying. Good call!

Injection is the least frustrating and confusing way to buy most of the Race07 content though, although you still don't have everything.

:odd: Zoology, you do realize that I agreed with you right? My last system only had 4GB of ram and pretty much ran everything at max up until the point when I upgraded.

Doesn't have anything to do with the fact that you're making up stuff as you go along, changing what you previously said; first it was adding 4 GB to an 8 GB system, then it was a 4 GB system that you upgraded. Now that I have pointed that out you're accusing me of not reading your posts?

I guess I run streamlined Win 7 OS but Skyrim plays perfectly well on 2 GIG . the ram usage the operation system use should go down as you start a game in fullscreen mode and you also have video card memory too. Going from 3 to 4 gig really don´t make much impact. BF 3 may possible be the exception but it´s not the norm and sadly not representative. Pretty much the only game out there that try to push modern computers. We live in a console dominated time where most games are ports more or less. All of our loved racing simulations are from the stone age currently.

I can give better examples of game benefitting from more RAM like FSX with demanding addons for max fluidity but really it´s the exception not the norm and it generally runs fine on 3 gig. I didn´t see that much of a boost going to 4 gig even though that also meant I could run dual channel and get some small percentage boost that way.

But I certainly don´t recommend 2 gig. As mentioned you are stretching it but it should make clear how much overkill 8 gig is. I suppose we need next gen consoles out on the market or new system hog OS:s from Microsoft before we start to see games that really push 4 gig :)

Actually I was talking about two different systems, the 8GB that I upgraded for a friend and mine that had 4GB when I sold it

The first one has a 4000 chip, second one a 3000. Check the benches I posted to see how they compare.

That's fine, but you still didn't see a performance increase going from 8 to whatever. There is no logical reason for it unless you had a faulty stick or had every installed program running at once.

Hi there, mate. If I had to choose from those two, I would get the Dell Inspiron 5520. AMD Radeon HD 7670M is better for gaming than Nvidia Geforce GT 525M. :)

And you'll get 250GB more storage space, faster RAM and a 3rd gen Ivy Bridge processor which is more efficient than a 2nd gen Sandy Bridge processor.

Without any games loaded. Granted I've got many tabs open but I loaded up pcars for a quick session and took my ram to 4.5GB+

Difference on newegg between 8gb and 4gb sticks is $15 so really not even worth writing about.

3/4 years ago 6-8gb of ram was over a $100 and software was less bloated so yes there was a point way back in time.

Would recommend building yourself but in Canada, pc parts supplier NCIX.com do a great service where they'll put all your bits together for $50.

I'd get a i5 k series cpu, Z77 or Z68 mobo, 8gb of ram, sata dvd drive, 1tb hdd, 500-650W PSU from seasonic/corsair, ATX case from coolermaster/corsair/Fractal. GPU - nvidia 670 or amd 7950 are good at the moment but you can higher or lower if you want.

To top it off I'd grab a 128gb SSD form intel/samsung and install your OS/apps and few of your fav games and drive yourself to gaming heaven.

If you see any prebuilts post them here so we can check, some are ok but many are a rip off but I'd go ncix route.

Well, if you have a tv and the laptop display there is 2 of your 3 lol.

I am not sure how eyefinity works on the mobile gpu's; typically one display is required to be connected via displayport, but I read your GPU does support it....

Again, I am not sure for laptops; I would suspect it would be the same but it might be an exception with the laptop display. You would have to read up on that. If you're just running hdmi out to your tv then you'll have 1920x1080. Enjoy your laptop man.

Another question (yes yes i know :lol: )but in the rfactor 2 specs it says i need a min 2.4 ghz proccesor(I think) the lap top iis equipped with only 2.2 with 3.1 with turbo boost so will it be enough?
