Its not even funny. I mean, if i slam into a wall at 180 mph+ there should be a accordion front, not a dent and "burn" mark. PD, you should take it out then re-implement it in a patch (Like the physics patch in GT5P Spec III). We survived 10 years of no damage, so its OK. Like Kaz said when asked about damage modeling... "I don't want to put things into the game that break people's hearts." Well I guess you were right, the lack of damage breaks our hearts ;)

PS- Brofist if you understand the MGS2 reference in the title

"I don't want to put things in the game that breaks people's hearts..."

Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha... :)

I actually blew soda out of my nose when I read THAT one! Do you mean things like endless grinding and ridiculous restrictions on trading things?

Good thing he was looking out for us there!

Yes please remove the damage. It's utterly ugly and unrealistic. Why don't you just learn from TURN 10 already!

Yeah...take out the damage so another slew of people can start crying for them to put it back.

You guys are hopeless.

On a side note, my son was racing the Citroen at Eiger Nordwind today and BOTH doors started swinging open and eventually he knocked them off. You could go into cockpit view and see them open and everything. Cool bit of damage modeling there...

Kaz said in the past that the damage modeling will be realtime, unlike Forza 3's which is pre-defined....but it seems GT5 is doing pre-defined damage too...Grid has the best damage modeling in all of racing games in my opinion...

Why take it out? People want damage for years and then it turns out not so good, instead of wanting it done right, you want it gone again?

What?

Ya, survived 10 years. So enough's enough. It's a start, I'm glad to see them attempting a change.

While Grid had great damage, I don't want it in GT5 until collision penalties are defined. I'd love to do some demolition derby at Daytona Speedway or TGTT though. ;)

Also, some elements of unrealism are necessary in video games. If we were to go full-realism you'd need a spotter to watch the cars around you, the inability to change out of cockpit view, 5-6 buddies to do a tire change/refuel minigame every pit, a tow truck, pace car... I could keep going. I realize I'm overdoing it on realism, but all of those things are real. :p

In summation, be careful what you wish for.

Is it even that hard to do a good damage model? Every racing game has one now and they are all ten times as good as GT5's.

I keep seeing complaints about how GT5's damage looks, but not so much about the mechanical damage. The reason GT5 needed damage in the first place was for the mechanical aspect of it. Complain how you like about FM3's damage, but at least you get a performance penalty for driving like an idiot. Bang around into other cars or grind walls and your car suffers as a result, and not just aesthetically. A complete lack of damage is a crutch for GT players. GT5 still needs damage, but it needs mechanical damage (and not just cosmetic) in A and B-Spec. You can't very well pretend to simulate racing if slamming into something at 180 MPH doesn't break something.

yeah if we had damage like forza where single parts get ****ed up id be happy, even if there wasnt much damage model at first.

id also then want tuning parts like forza and most cars to be able to go 200~ higher HP then they can.

Damage is irrelevant to me. Who is slamming into walls and for that matter why? I get upset when someone crinkles my bumper.
Mechanical damage is pretty good though. In my opinion.

Why are you slamming into walls. You crazy kids and your wall slamming video games. Ha ha

hahahahahahaha

Anyway, while I agree there should be a 'visual damage OFF' button, I want that because I don't want the cars looking bad, doesn't matter if the damage is good or bad or realistic or not. They look best when they're shiny, like the rest of the game.

The one developer they really need to talk to is Rockstar. Unlike T10 or (almost everyone else) they're into damage that is a result of what happens, not the usual (and soon to be outdated hopefully) canned stage 1 stage 2 stage 3 damage (Forza3, TOCA, etc). In GTA IV, when you hit something, the dent is calculated based on physics, so you can smack a pedestrian or post or whatever, and you get a nice believable impact, not just the car model cycling through premade damage models.

Just for the record: the OP asks for the damage to be removed only to give PD a chance to design it properly and have it re-implemented through a patch.

GT5 with heavy damage online one wreak pretty much screw you chance of winning a race. The down side of damage is it not only penalize the "idiot" who wreak but the other driver they ran into as well. This is why you will see very few online rooms with heavy damage on.

As far as single player if you break something in FM3 (especially when the AI rams you) all you have to do is uses the unlimited rewind feature. So Fm3 does not really penalize careless drivers either in SP.

GT5 license did have penalties and people complain about them. Those penalties were probably more realisitic as one major hit with another car or wall IRL usually means race over.

The damage in Forza 3 looks even worse than GT5.

One collision and you car looks like it drove through a sandpaper factory. It's the exactly the same with every collision too lol.

Dirt and Grid are where the good damage is at.
