Forza 4 has the best Ai i've seen in a racing game.

Someone had to say the 'f' word didn't they

Although i've only done a few laps in Forza, i hate the physics of the cars. It still feels like the front tyres are floating on ice and you can't tell when the car is about to let go or on the edge of grip... very weird. But, back on topic, i think GT5's AI is better than previous attempts, but still room for improvement.

The best races i've had are the K-series cup in a boggo standard Suzuki Capaccino (sp?) with crappy hard comfort tyres on. Some of the best racing ever, or the 60's and 70's Japanese event with a Mazda 110S and the same tyres, makes for some close racing.

Opps, sorry for the double post.

Unfortunately, getting a good pick-up(quickie) race challenge is extremely hard in GT5.

Arcade Mode (archaic mode) is terrible, i get in a Caterham, in A class, and get paired with Supras and Imprezas (because of PP) , GT confuses 'DIFFICULTY' for 'CARS that are WAY FASTER than yours', and sadly this is one of the best ways to get an AI challenge, Arcade A-Class. PP system needs to go\face major changes as far as determining opponents.

ONline, dont make me puke in my mouth, its either Punters and X1's or dragsters who never drove anywhere but SSR7. Or spend days force-socializing to find decent race series and drivers (IN YOUR TIMEZONE no less) to have semi-decent races.

I feel like a mutt in a dog park when im online, i have to sniff 100 arses before i find one i can run around with. When i do its usually rewarding, but very rare.

When i try to make a room with strict rules and limitations (no aids, PP limit etc) Nobody wants to join, the general GT5 public has no interest in "close and even" racing, everybody wants to WIN, and thats the problem, nobody wants to RACE and have FUN and BATTLE for 4th place, they want to win, or nothing.

I feel you man that's why I race with my buddies. I am looking for people who can drive fast and clean with ABS off. I have a feeling you fit in this catorgorey. If this is true please send me a FR I need people to race with.

Bull's eye.

There are many positive sides to GT5, but unfortunately the negative sides are present too. I hope for GT6 that they use physics and ideas from GT5 and improve AI, car list, online racing and career mode. One can only hope.

I know I mentioned the flaws of online racing 1 month after GT had been released. All people could say to me was "create your own lobby". Like it would help if 1,000,000 people all created a lobby of their own.. :ouch:
Online racing needs fixed car classes for quick racing. And the full settings as the game has now for social racing.

I always felt like they where a bit rubbery and slightly top-heavy (though the body roll isn't as overdone as in GT4), the AI, meh, I find them nearly equal, the one in GT5 is a bit quicker, they hit me about just as often.

Current AI (as in previous GT's, unfurtunately) is based almost only on speed. Meaning that the tough/hard races are the ones which has "fast-drivers" while the easy races are ones with "slow drivers" (even on straight with the exact car as mine).
This could sometimes be ok in specific challenges where PD would like the race to be done in certain level of toughness which doesn't change much from try to try (to "help" the gamer to finish that specific challenge).
However, when this AI mechanics exists also in practice and even in the seasonal events this means that the AI is "stupid".

From my perspective, an AI will considered to be good only if the following bullets are accomplished:
1) in cases where we (the AI and myself) use the same exact car with same parameters, and the toughness of the race will be based on the AI mistakes in braking/speeding/cornering etc comparing to my mistakes.
2) When re-trying the race over and over again, the AI behaves differently from one race to another, and is doing its mistakes in different places (like me...), but its final result is somewhat the same (final result depends on the level of the race)
3) When replay is being watched by others, it will be hard to distinguish between human driver and AI drivers - since the AI having mistakes and drive like "human"

Try shuffle races. Those are the only decent public online racing rooms. Also check what assists are allowed: general rule is driving line off and no SRF mean better races.

Yea after playing GT for so long and giving FM4 a shot recently at a demo in Walmart, I can honestly say I can't grasp the physics that FM4 is using at all. It just feels a touch arcadey still after all these iterations they have done. GT5 just feels more natural to me, but hey that is just my opinion, take it or leave it lol.:)

Yes i usually choose No SRF or Aids rooms, in ALL regions (not just US, i find alot of good rooms are EU\UK or Japan.) and with tire restrictions.

But as i mentioned this is a fishing game and it takes a few rooms and punts to settle in and find a good one.

Its possible, but time consuming.

Here's a thought: Make your own room!

No aids, tyre wear on, 15+laps!

OT but my Zagato is nearly the same color as yours, i think mine is Lhasa Metallic, its like platinum\blue\silver, very 60s.

I thought they had rolling starts to make the race "harder".I still do think thats the reason because occasionally even with rolling starts, cars get bunched up together on some turns and fps drops. So it doesnt remove that aspect completely.

If you are making a single race in GT Life on a custom track, you get standing starts. Same with online, so I seriously doubt that it was done this way with performance in mind.

I'm wondering also why they did such a huge turnover all of a sudden and ditched almost all fixed starts. Probably because if you timed your start right you could easily pass some cars before the first corner, whilst with a rolling one it's not "as" easy...

Before if my memory suits me right in previous GT's you started 6th and last unless you made the effort to do a qualifying (wich i loved, why has this been ditched also??), now with a bigger field of 12 cars mostly, would putting you in the middle pack with a rolling start be the best solution?

You can't expect everyone to have to do a quali just not to start in 12th place, but there must be something more imaginative that can be done. (altough i cant really think of it myself now :))

Like it would help if 1,000,000 people all created a lobby of their own... and think of all the time consumed while waiting for people who are also willing to wait.

I hope this thread goes to the top. A PD Employee needs to see this, hit ctrl+p, and run the pages to the giant, hollowed-out tree where Kaz lives.

One lap. One lap of dirt2 rallycross and you will be asking yourself... wtf are they DOING at PD studios?? Making racing games, right? For 15 years? Oh my lanta.

I havent touched a single A-Spec race in probably 6 months. I am forced to use Arcade mode, where I don't even think you receive credit for wins, let alone PP or rewards.

A.I. difficulty set to 10, A class race, pick a car, set it to Sports Soft or Racing Hard tires, no aids xept abs 1, damage and fuel/tire wear on. Get to pre-race screen and change MY tires to Comfort Soft or something like that depending on the car, and proceed to fight my rear end off to move methodically up the pack, or sometimes just hold 12th position! Sometimes it takes a little trial and error with the tires or maybe I have to add/remove ballast.

This method CAN lead to come great racing- but why do I have to work so dang hard to cultivate it? With no rewards to boot!?

I believe that in the credits of GT5, there exists one man under the title "A.I. Programmer". Can someone confirm this? Then can someone tweet Kaz that this poor guy needs some HELP?!?

A multi-million dollar operation can't focus some resources on whats important? Oh wait.. (brace for a classic line) .... IT'S PD.

Haha, Funny 'cause it's probably true. Same guy since Gt1, who probably hasn't spent a single day upskilling since :)
PD should just model cars, and maybe work on commercial driving simulatorsfor a living, since these are the areas they seem to love. They seem to neglect the 'game' part of their games, by comparison.

I have recently played Gt4 again, and the AI is smashing into me, braking right in front of me, and running me off the road constantly, and its not me, I'm getting fairly good times on tracks and not driving like an ass, its the horrid AI of the past, its somewhat fine now.

Just read this review again by a renowned games site, dated when GT5 came out:

"Gran Turismo 5 is a 10/10 simulator wrapped up in a 5/10 game – driving is as exhilarating as anything that’s gone before, and slavish obsession with the minutiae of many of its cars ensure it's an encyclopaedia of automotive delights. Its brilliance on the track, however is matched by its sloppiness off of it, and there’s a lack of polish that would at one time have seemed sacrilegious to the series. Ultimately its driving wins out to ensure that it’s still a great game, but it leaves that nagging doubt; this could have been a masterpiece were it not for the fact that Polyphony was so absorbed with the detail that it took its eye off the ball"

Must say that is what they call "hitting the nail on the head" there.
