Well, last week or so i've had some weird experiences.

Firstly this, then my bandwidth dropped from "High" to "normal". I thought "fine, i'm going through a rough patch" - I did have a new wireless hub installed a couple weeks back.

But then other (normally) perfectly stable lobbies start having issues. Two of the GTP NASCAR leagues had a ton of lag and in one case, two restarts owing to black screens. I've lowered my mic quality in my races but i'm still getting jumpy lag from others. People say I'm lagging as are other racers...

Makes me think - maybe PD need to clear their own cache and clean up the servers?

Never run races with mic on. That kills the bandwidth. Always have it off. Clear out the cache before going online. Always go wired, never wireless. PS3 is max 54Mbps wifi, PS3 wired goes up to 1000Mpbs. PS3 has a T10/100/1000 ethernet card. No other game console has anything like that.

Point is that i have run many races with mics and no issues. As have others. Even lowered mic quality appears to make little difference.

Also of point is that GT5 is a peer to peer online game. Its like a torrent file. A game like Battlefield 3 has its own servers that do everything. GT5 basically makes each ps3 a mini server, with them all talking to each other. If just one person has a weak or low internet can almost kill it for everyone else. If each person had 30Mbps internet you have perfect racing. But no one has the same internet speeds or bandwidth.

You are aware that even the fastest broadband connections get nowhere near the limits of wireless? As has been discussed countless times before, PING is what counts.

Oh, I sure do know that that speeds of wifi never meet the full speed they are advertised. But it has been proven that wired is better than wifi in any sort of gaming.

But this detracts from my original point. Everything has just become laggier and glitchier now.

haha PD working :)
If they had bothered to provide dedicated servers instead of cheaping out,
none of these problems would even exist.
It's so lazy and inexplicable, Oh PD never change.

Without wishing to join the PD defense brigade, thats's a pretty blunt headed thing to say..

Just to add to this. Make sure it's a full moon and your console is facing west.

I have provided just about everything for the best on GT5, which is spread out within GTP as well. Take what you want from it, but thats about all you can do with GT5.

i don't know what your talking about, GT5 has the best support of a game over 1 year old

True, but I really think dedicated servers should have been provided for a AAA game like
GT5. I was aiming for funny rather than blunt headed.....my bad.

Yes, they made one track.. SPA witch is cool and almost not playable as it lags with 16 players online. FPS drop way below 60fps.

They also made a karting arena witch probably is cool for some, If I want to go karting I can do that pretty cheap so no need to simulate that for my own pleasure.

Then all the cars they made. To be very honest, I bought every thing PD gave out, but only SPA is the thing I seem to use more than once and still enjoy.

The speedpack, don't even get me started. I just didn't buy a wheel to holding it like holding a dead girls hand.

And then the spec2 with tyrewear that doesn't seem to fit anything, the pitlane became part of the racing line and that's just not right.

And they gave us a useless photo location and some suits and helmets, but something that would have made the game play good online like a dedicated server that could have been given to "rent a game server" around the world could have given championship some sort of professionalism I would expect from a game like Gran Tursimo,

But no, everyone need high speed server like internet connections to make it work.

Don't get me wrong, I love this game and with the connection I have I can host for more than 16 players, but why do PD expect everyone to have fiber into their house. I doubt even 5% of the guys on this forum has it.

The best support would be to give us something that made it compete with a race sim on a computer, not useless car packs with cars I can't even delete. So I say. Come on PD, with your skills, it would be possible to get your priorities right!

I last no longer than 10 mins in rooms now before I'm kicked... I dont know if this is because I join dicks or its the bandwidth kicking me out???

Never run races with a mic.... why is 6kb/s slowing your XXMb/s net down lol

My online experience in GT5 as become so slow getting into the game, getting through menus, actually getting into a lobby that I've resorted to turning off my network connection just so I can select a car and get onto a track in practice mode for a quick game without having to wait 15-20 mins before I can even play. The last month or so it's become so bad it's made the game for me almost unplayable.

Rest assured, PD is working on it.

That's encouraging , do you have a link or any other info on this ?

As 90 % of my time spent on GT is online racing , the recent deterioration of the network has driven me away (pardon the pun) from what has been my favorite pastime. The last few weeks have been painful. Every time I jump on for a few races in the evening , there will be issues , guaranteed. Host getting dropped , people being unable to join a room , incompatibilty issues , not being able to see other player(s) when driving , even entire lobbies collapsing. Spend an hour or two online and I am assured of seeing one or many of these problems.

It would be good to know whether I should wait patiently for the system to return to a reliable state or if I should give up on GT /PSN and move to PC sims.

Thanks for any info.

I would rather have PD spend its resources in adding more content than have them waste money on dedicated servers.

At its core, GT is not (and I hope it never will be) an online game.

Rooms are also locking up when the host switches tracks/resets room.

I think some of these problems are due to the people with loading lines/stripes under their names. I usually have the person back out of the room and come back in. The problem is most people don't know about the issue or they don't say anything about it. This is definitely an issue needs resolved ASAP.

I am not having any problems, raced with 16 people in my room for 2 hours straight, some people left because it was late. Other than that every body ran great I really think it depends on the host.

No, no, no. I mean your ADSL2 broadband connection (IE, the connection you pay your Internet provider) probably runs at somewhere between 1 and 20(ish) mbps, your wireless (even in G mode) runs at 54mbps, which, unless my maths is flawed, is plenty. The weakest link in any network game is PING speed (which is the response time(s) between servers sending and receiving packets of data. If your server/competitors are in another country, you'll probably notice that the ping becomes exponentially worse the further away they are.

The bottom line is, unless your wireless access point is screwed (or not configured correctly), there shouldn't be any noticeable difference.

Well, it isn't. 22mbps is achievable in perfect conditions. And if you have multiple wifis in your area, it becomes very.... interesting. Combine this with other devices / users using your wifi and you are prone to get problems.

If nothing else changed, why not look at the one thing you mention yourself?

So change wifi channels. I've not had any issues with mine, and the only time I get lag is when I'm playing people in other countries (and even then only occasionally).

I don't know if this is recent or not, as I don't frequently check the logs, but lately I've notice that I'm losing tire sound.

It'll be fine for a few races, then almost silent despite running on tarmac.

Makes me feel like I'm Helen Keller.

Sure, will do.
