PD should put their foot down on car damage.

In my opinion, Polyphony Digital should say to the manufacturers: We are going to have car damage. Either accept that or pull out of the game. Wouldn't the manufacturers gain more by staying in the GT series with car damage than drawing out of it? Aren't they getting tons of free publicity? And while they're at it, I think they can go a step further and have damage actually affect a car's performance. They claim to be the real driving simulator, so make it as real as possible. I'm tired of the AI hitting walls around the entire track and still keeping up with me.

i dont care too much about car damage. so if u bang up your ride alot, you would have to spend lots of money to repair it. i seriously hated that concept in NFS: High stakes. it's tough avoiding the walls (and cars) sometimes for an entire race. if they do add damage to cars, they would probably have to lower the polygon count to each car.

No they would add more. They have to make graphics for it.

I dont care much for damage. Alot of people will just wreck on purpose to see their ride busted up, thats why manufacturers dont like damage much. If we did have damage I would like it to be light. Like tire marks (from side swiping other vehicles) on the cars, dents, crumple spots (small or medium ones), cracked windows. That would satisfy me. But first, better AI...

And if PD puts their foot down, "Allow damage or GET OUT!", they would lose money as people like to have their favorite cars in the game. If say, Toyota, Subaru, Dodge, and Chevy pulled out, alot of people wont buy as they like those cars in the game...

Very Doubtful will happen, you want CD get Burnout2

Do you think that manufacturers would pull out of such a successful racing series just to avoid having their cars damaged? I don't know. I'd at least like to see more realistic crash physics. As they are right now, it is too much like bumper cars in my opinion. And for those who don't want to deal with damage, have a setting to turn it off.

There are enough crash an burn games out there....PERIOD

Besides it aint gonna happen, or would be in the game now as an option

Besides why would yas wanna crash your beloved car you cherrish ? Does not compute

I think that they should have damage in the game, but you wouln'd have to repair it after the race. I know it wouldn't be like "real life", but it would be cool because it could affect your performance and what not, but wouldn't affect you after the race.

But then again, if you have to pay for it, people will actually race and not hit walls and crap. How about we have to buy tires every now and then? And have a place where you can see the engine or interior. That would be cool...

At least have an option of it though. I dont want Heavy damage. Only light damage. Kind of like what you would expect in a normal race with no big crashes.

Another thing I would like it better "dirty car" effects. Actual grey spots, and if it was in a rally or you just went off the track, dirt and mud...

Subaru or Honda would never pull out; this game has been a goldmine for them. They don't see it in new car sales but they should see it in average buyer age and resale value.

Exactly. I was racing with a friend once and he was going the wrong way. We were both doing about 150mph down a straightaway and we hit head on. We both bounced like crazy across the track.

I also just ran into a wall full speed just for the hell of it. I was doing well over 100mph. I hit the wall and the only effect the sudden stop had on my car was the cheap sound of my wheels squeeling.

GT needs car damage. Not the the extreme like Burnout 2. Maybe damage like the old NFS:HS.

My view on car damage is this:

I don't care about the graphics. If the car companies don't want to see their cars wrecked then don't do the graphics.

I also don't care on whether we have to pay to fix the cars after the races or not.

What I would like is that if you ram the car in front that your car gets damaged which means its performance is affected. It could be done by using a similar concept to the tire wear indicators.

If we want a simulator then we do not want to be able to ram cars.

On the one hand I don't care if we have real life racing or arcade type racing as long as the AI is adjusted so it is hard but not impossible.

Ramming cars is very effective in GT3 but not in real life so model it in the physics engine but not necessarily graphics.

Is this not the best compromise ?

They had that in GT2. Your car could be damaged (not visually) but it would handle differently. I didnt like it much because I couldnt tell the severity of the damage without seeing it. Was annoying as h*ll so I turned it off...

That is why I am saying there should be a guage on the screen telling you where the problem is.

Also going into pits you can get damage fixed if you want to.

And no I do not believe in changing oil in a race unless it would happen in real life.

Even if there was a guage it would be the same as you couldnt see the damage yourself. A guage like on the tires wont show you that your Bumper is dragging on the wheels, or that your suspension is about to break if you hit it one more time...
