・More Penalties for Special Events
Penalties for improper driving such as driving off course and hitting walls have been increased for the [Special Events] under [GT Mode] – [GT Life].

Any ideas what exactly this is?I made a few mistakes on the RX7 race,went off into the gravel/grass but got no noticable penalties and went on to win anyway.
 
I am not sure as I haven't played since the update, but I think you are confusing the Seasonal Events (RX7) with the Special Events (karts, AMG Driving Academy etc.)
