Only in the one instance. I came round a tight bend as the AI pulled onto the track and couldnt see the car till it was too late.

I've just completed the last S class race, and the penalty system makes it a real challange.

One penalty I love is when there is a long line of trafic infront of you on a tight bend. You have to almost stop in the queue, then you get hit from behind and pushed into the car infront, RAMMING PENALTY.

Why is it when an AI cuts a corner it doesnt get a penalty?

I like the penalty system, but it needs alot of work. It needs to be alot more intelligent.

I firmly agree. The penalty system CAN BECOME a good feature, but this time around it's WAAAAAAAAAAAY off.
 
I have had it with this damn penalty system. I am about to hit the last S turn on Suzuka and slow down in 3rd place after countless retries on the S-10 but what happens ? The Viper rams me on the rear bumper and throws me out of the turn just for me to get a 5 sec penalty and I watch him rev up so he didn't get a penalty ? WTF.
 
The penalty system is to simulate real life but alot more milder. If your racing on a track and you get 2 wheels off the track your penalized, 4 whels off and your done for the day.

Same thing goes for crashes except when you hit someone your done for the day. Go to a real racetrack and youll learn how much more aggressive you try to be in games because its not real. Drive in the game like its real life and it will enhance the game in return.


WHAT?? you mind telling me where you have seen this rule? I'm about sick of all these comment's about how real life is...

You name me one series that any of these BS rules apply to. And we are talking RACE series NOT club motorsports

As for trackday and club "racing" type rules ..touching yes ... pack up.

2 wheels off... NOPE

4 wheels off... NOPE ...now if you go off like 3 times in one day they may ask you to drop a class.. but will not toss you out unless your acting like a retard.


It seems there are a good amount of people on here that love to talk out of their rears... and from no experiance.

"It is like this in the SIM because thats how it is in real life" ... I have seen this a dozen times now. .... and most are false.
 
Ahh, yes … the penalty system is total rubbish. I find that 90% of my mistakes during a race ultimately comes down to the AI’s driving. For example, if a computer car brakes to a near-standstill on the apex of right-hand bend, I have three choices:

- Swerve to the right of him, resulting in a shortcut penalty

- Run into the back of him, resulting in a ramming penalty

- Swerve to the left, losing time, and running wide into the Kitty litter (which will probably give you a ‘shortcut’ penalty anyway).

The worse thing about the system, by far, is the unrealism of your car turning into a ghost. It ruins everything… and looks incredibly cheesy, especially in a replay!

This is the only thing I've been unhappy about in any GT game for the past 10 years. I guess we are not asking for much... get rid of it! please 👍

HAHA ..spot on ... the best is when your in the Lotus and the Ford GT slams you from behind giving you a "ramming" penalty knocking you into the litterbox slowing you down 8 secs then you get back on and it hits you with a short cut penalty.... I think I jumped 5 feet out of my chair cursing.:ouch:

hmm.., i like the penalty system somehow. i always know exactly what for im getting em( if im getting em ), also i think the AI is the best i ever saw! you just have to give a little room for the other racer, so will he.i love how they make the same mistakes i'd do otherwise! battles with the AI, overtaking each other like 20x per lap was so much fun! i think C B S A races can be a very good lesson for online mode and overall driving skills and to have respect to your opponent, not jus ram him off because you maybe could go faster!

i dont mind the penalty, when i make a mistake, but i really hate it when i get copped with it when its the AI drivers fault, eg- id come up to a tight corner and brake at the perfect point to take the perfect line and an AI car would come smashing up the rear of my car causing me to go off the course into kitty litter and get copped with a penalty and because he hit me so hard it had slowed the AI car enough to make the corner, know how is that fair? That is just one example, there are many more.
It should be fixed.

I would gladly give up some of the graphics for more realistic penalties.
I don't mind being faulted when it is my fault, but when it's not, it's just plain old wrong.

See, that's exactly what this penalty system destroys. Imagine you're watching a replay of a beautiful Aston Martin DB9 cruising around Fuji on a HDTV. Lush green grass, amazing blue sky, car looks brilliant!... then all of a sudden it turns into an flashing (strobe light) ghost. Trust me, It looks ridiculous. 👎
 
Penalty points annoy me, but not as much as the AI drivers not receiving penalties for shortcutting. Ive noticed it on the 4th Corner on Fuji speedway, some of them go wide and come back onto the track but dont incur penalties.
 
The penalty system in GT4 just about worked (would only give you a penalty if you didn't attempt to brake for a corner etc but if you tried but clipped another car it was ok you would get away.)

The system in the 'S' class on prologue is redicioulous! the penalties are o.t.t and the AI is stupid :crazy::yuck::dunce:

I'm not slagging polphony but haven't they seen the BTCC!
 
GT4? Every contact with an AI car in rally mode gives a penalty. That is just as bad as GT5P. There should be no penalties for car contact with AI. It simply does not work.
 
My favorite is when you come round a tight corner to meet an AI car pulling back onto the track. It's impossible to avoid SMASH.

Not only do you loose stacks of time due to the impact, but to add insult to injury you get a a 5 second ramming penalty for good mesure, thanks a bunch.

i thought it would be a good idea to make any cars that travel between 0-10 mph untouchable...so you can go straight through them...i cant think of any corners where you need to drive that slow in any car....although there may indeed be...but still i think its worth it as this has happened to me a few times.
 
I've yet to find a racing game where penalties are actually accurate at all, Formula 1 06/CE...Toca 3...GT4...GT5P... All of them have a penalty system that they just cannot program right. Do it right or get rid of it full stop and stop ******* us off. That said, I only just had my first unfair penalty given...but it's still enough to rile me, whether you know the track/AI or not sometimes it's still unavoidable.
 
Just add tire barriers in places where the corners can be cut. Then get rid of the penalties altogether. LFS seems to have it right.
 
Mmm...trouble is you then get people complaining the tracks lose the realism and authenticity to the real deal. IMO, penalties only need to be done for online and special missions, if people want to cheat in single player career mode...let 'em, it's their loss. The rest of us can be satisfied we did it properly. Oh well...such is life, hopefully it's something they'll work on a bit more before the games release...unless of course it's already finished or something.
 
I'm glad it's not just me who hates this...

In theory it would be a very good thing to have but it is very floored. I've been rammed god knows how many times by the AI and had ramming penalties, very frustrating when its not your fault and I've had the same with the online too!

The AI should be easy enough to sort I'd imagine in respect to who's fault it was but I think for online it would be better to have penalties for short cuts and hitting barriers but just make all the other cars ghost cars. Although it takes somethign away from the racing at least it would solve the problem of people who crash for fun!
 
Whilst racing online at fuji 650pp tonight, i found that some penalties that i would normally have received
for being hit (grr) appeared very briefly then cancelled themselves

Anyone else had this happen? I'll check some other tracks tomorrow, see what happens
 
In "real life" or real racing, if a competitor hits you, you simply store that bit of info for a pay back later. It results in a mutual respect. The penalty system as it exists in GT5P adds nothing but frustration to the game. If it is suppossed to be the "Real Driving Simulator" then get real. I have thousands of hours invested in the GT series and this latest snafu will be the thing that finally breaks me of the habit. Sony should have learned from "Tourist Trophy" which would have been the killer motorcycle racing game of all time if it weren't for the ridiculous penalty system. I just can't bring myself to play it anymore as a result. I just don't understand why the AI can do whatever they damn well want and not be subjected to the same set of rules. It just ain't fair in anybody's world, let alone this one !
 
Since I don't get to plug my G25 in until tomorrow (job finishes early) can someone tell me if the penalty is just time or if they nail you with a speed limit for X seconds?
 
I would just like to know why Polyphony cannot ensure that the AI cars get penalties as well.

- the 'stopped' car (seems most common at Suzuka)
- getting rammed from behind;
eg when deep in the braking zone while your behaviour is exemplary (ie not late braking to gain positions) or because the AI opponent screws up (coming back on track, shortcutting the corner and hitting you on your exit), are very frustrating and annoying especially when you are doing well.

Sort it, or get rid of it for GT5.
 
I must say my biggest beef is with the ridiculous penalty system

Often, when racing online, I end up racing with lunatics hell-bent on causing grief to everyone
Though, my last online session turned out to have the best mix of opponents I've yet faced (so good infact that I wish voice chat was a feature so I could thank them for the great racing action)
I was side-by-side with another car at the front of the field, good honest racing until we bumped in a turn and I tapped the outside wall and was penalized for it, I lost control and spun across the track, upon righting my car and accelerating away I was hit directly from behind by another car and I was given the collision penalty

Or how about when I ran wide on a fast corner and went onto the grass and I was given a penalty for taking a short-cut...a short cut on the outside of a corner!? That's just mental

I can only hope the sort of dismay we are voicing here makes it's way to PD HQ and gets culled altogether, as what are the odds of it ever becoming totally fair and consistent?
 
Add my name to the list of those annoyed with the current penalty system.
My personal favourite is when the AI spins out, speeds back on track and side-swipes you.
Followed closely by the penalty given if you take a corner to quick, spin out off the track, and then get a time penalty for what I assume is trying to cut corners.
Good times.
