So my question is, to the general GT gaming public, are video games the problem, or is it bad parenting? I believe we've had this discussion a time or two before but it's been a while and I'd like an update.

There are video games for kids, for older kids, and for adults. It's the parents' job to raise their kids. Some material, including some video games, are clearly inappropriate for little kids. But it's the parents job to raise them and make these decisions. Unfortunately some parents are surprised that raising a kid is work and requires at least a modicum of morality and reasoning ability to do well.

I think inept parents and politicians see the videogame industry a easy target to blame social dysfunction on. Perhaps they should look in a mirror.

I think you've stated it quite well. People just don't realize how much work it is to raise a child, and therefore become lazy and produce bad children.

But where do they get this idea that raising children is easy? Is it because everything else in life has become so easy?

Driving a car - automatic transmission and cruise control.
Making dinner - microwave.
Doing taxes - TurboTax (:
Laundry - Washer and dryer.

At work, people (in general) are doing as little as possible to not get fired. I would say that our nation on the whole is getting incredibly lazy. And when lazy people breed it apparently causes problems.

Is lazy the correct word? Or should I be using a different word?

I think it could be a little bit of both. The games that kids want today are rated "M". Yet, parents allow that. Well, mine don't(i don't want the games anyway). The problem is that there are too much violence, sex, etc. on the games and it makes kids want to do those things.

There are kids stupid enough to think what they see on the screen is real and there are parents stupid enough to allow their kids to see that screen to begin with.

It's a mutual idiocy crime.

I've changed my mind because when I think about it, the parents are the ones at fault. The parents should be more concerned about what their children are exposed to.

100% parents. More correctly, women. They want to, or have to go to work and nobody is lookig after the kids. Soembody needs to stay and watch them, especially if they are the type stupid enough to mimic what they see on TV, video games or the computer.

The biggest group of people voicing their opinion about video games is women. They always want to blame other people or other reasons why their children act out other than themselves.
These women need to be put under control, but they are usually married to these small, weak little loosers who have no balls. They are to scared to stand up to thier woman, and say "Shut the hell up b*tch, and bring me my dinner!"

OK, I went to far but I'm sure you get what I mean. Let's see what else woman have done to us.

Prohibition, gun laws, safety regulations that defy common sense, forever destroyed the right for boys to be boys, made women think they can do anything that us men can do, and the worse one of all made girls act like obnoxious, rude little ****s. There was always a balance with boys acting like boys, and girls acting like girls, and now this balance has been destroyed.

I'm not against women, or women making in it the world, I'm fine with that. In fact my "wife" works, and I stay home with the kids. What I don't like is how they have made it a crime for boys to act like boys, and the only people to put a stop to it is us men.

BTW, my "wife" agrees with me, for the most part. Yep, she's a keeper.:D

Perhaps the balance was off then, and you now perceive the correct balance to be off balance. Hm? Maybe the previous situation was forced upon the world by people like you. You went way too far there. Since when are all women "rude little ****s?" Most of the women I've met aren't. Perhaps they're rude because you expect them to be acting like your stereotype of the "proper" girl. Maybe you offend them.

100% bad parenting...I think mainly because what milefile said about the different games and their ratings, that's what they're there for...and being a parent also carries a lot of responsibilities.

So, go PA!

bad parenting...it's the parent's fault that their kids are playing these ultra-violent games. and if they don't mind the kids playing, they don't explain to the kids that the game is a game and life is LIFE...so stay away from the weapons in real life
