Me and my brother took turns every four hours, we have 40 laps over the second placed and we stopped car for 2:15 hours to rest.

Everything can overheat.

In most cases, it's the users fault that their PS3 is overheating.

For a track like Indy it on a moderate line you can run 29-30sec lap times. I can try posting a youtube vid of where I seen this a bit later. I'd imagine you might be able to cut it down to 28sec laps with a refined line.

its irresponsible of pd to include these endurances races, what were they thinking? parents will be thrilled that there kids plan to sit at the ps3 for 24 hours straight, even if there are people who may like these they shouldnt be included in career mode because people will play them just so they can complete the game,

the game is done for me now, the only events i have other than endurance races is gt formula, and i cant even get my head around doing 20 laps on the same track then then have to do 20 laps on the next track, i quit 5 laps in, they should have used their imagination and added more events not more laps.

i did do it in gt4 but its just silly now

Well being just over 2hrs and 114 laps into the 4hrs of Tsukuba I can't say I am looking forward to anything longer. Sadly Le Sarthe is one of my all time favourite tracks (Le Sarthe, Spa, Nordschleife) If I ever really make an attempt at it. I'm sure the shine will wear off(not too mention pulling some serious time on The Green Hell...)

While I am happy with the car's setup and turning nice smooth laps(Just used my Premium Eunos-J I had set up for Bob, so barely tuned at all, even on Sports Softs) The monotony of it is killing me.

I can't even imagine 22 more hours...
I would really hope PD has the sense to allow us to save from the pits in a future patch. It's already bad enough that you can even pause B-Spec....

Edit: I mean lets try to be a bit realistic here. I mean even during the REAL 24hr's of Le Mans there are multiple driver changes...

All you people worrying about YLOD, or that GT5 might brick your PS3 are idiots... You'd think FOX News did a fear mongering piece on the YLOD and all the saps just ate it up

I too have the launch 60GB and it does at least 18hr days 90% of the time, sometimes stays on for a week or more without turning it off. Think about the incredibly low percentage of people on a board that get the YLOD. Can't be more than 1%, probably like 0.5% or less, also keep in mind that the percentage of forum users who experience this issue will be higher simply due to the fact that when someone gets the YLOD the first thing they'll do is sign up for a forum (if they have not already) and make a "OMG _____ KILLED MY PS3!!! YLOD!!!" post. So the overall rate of failure within the general population will be lower than what will be found among the subset population of a forum board.

tl:dr There is no problem running your PS3 for days straight in a normal environment!

It should probably be said that getting YLOD on an old fat PS3 is not a matter of 'if', but 'when'. They're design simply isn't good enough to last. The heatsink paste will dry up eventually. Dust could clog the system just a little too much. Continual heat could harm the solder joints. My 40gb had died twice over it's life. 1st time the Blu-ray diode melted because I had changed it's position and didn't realise that it trapped the heat when it didn't before. 2nd time it was simply normal use and it was doing what it would normally do. It's not a matter of fear mongering at all. One simply has to be prepared for the inevitable failure. I partake in many PS3 forums, and I've seen PS3s drop off one by one.

In saying that, never not use your PS3 in fear of YLOD. If it happens, it happens. The PS3 is very capable of running for days at a time. I know of a PS3 that had run pretty much non stop for two straight years until it died. Just remember to back up save games and keep on driving 👍.


Whoops, this topic is about 24 hour race right? Uhh, I haven't done one. Looking forward to it though, but I'm still about 3/4 into level 28.

At least they should include a feature in A spec 24 hr to join a racing team. Or maybe when you reach lvl 35, have a pop up saying Team ORECA or Team Peugeot would like you to join there team and race in le mans.

If you care about grinding for xp a 24hour race is an easy way to get a ton of xp without doing any work. You get the same amount of xp for coming last as you do for coming first.
Set it going, go visit the outside world/go to work, come back to your ps3 and do 1 lap.
Bag a load of xp. The same goes for the 4h races.

As for trying to win it i rackon i could race about 4-6 hours a day so if I had the X1 I could leave it after 20 hours and therefore do it in about 4 days

Wow man, I...simply didn't know that. I don't know if it was that obvious...I mean, hm, but damned nice yeah. I believe you should make a thread just quoting what you said, I believe there are many others, who do not know that yet, like me, I hope lol.

I'll accept the second point somewhat. Keeping the PS3 in a cool place with plenty of ventilation will prevent overheating.

The PS3 has a 2% failure rate, so if it YLODs, its **** luck more than anything. If you're worried about it tho, there are some good aftermarket parts available (stay away from Nyko) and keep it in an open spot where it has ventilation.

Seriously, this is what you call an event. I want to hear about it. How many days did it take you? I find it difficult to believe that many people actually stayed up and played this game for 24 hours straight (and that's a minimum... eating/bathroom breaks??).


I just finished the Indy 500 A-Spec race, simply to get the gold trophy and prize car, and just to do it once. It wasn't a walk in the park driving in a circle for over two hours by any means. I had to mute the game and crank some music to zone out of it after a while. There certainly was a level of enjoyment to it, but I'm not going to do that race ever again. There's no point. You can get far more EXP or credits by grinding the American Championship or Dream Car races at Indy in two hours time.


So, I just can't see myself completing one of the 24-hour A-Spec races in less than 4 days time, if that, with game pauses in between. So I'd like to hear how other people have pulled it off.

What makes me angry is the fact that even oldest games such as "Le Mans 24 Hours" included a saving option during the race, while Gran Turismo 5 does not. Ridiculus.

The 24h is all so wrong. Even in B spec you can use more then one driver.
I mean you should be able to take at least two B_spec drivers with you instead of doing a full 24h run. Would be also much more realistic.

And I just refuse to let my PS3 on for 24h at almost full load!
Doesn't even the manual warn about letting the console running for too long?

Also, what about the typical gaming warning: '' make a 15min brake after every hour ''.
Sure, you can pause the game when ever you want, but technically, there is no practical implemention of pauses.

The only way to do this, is take someones PS3, two other friends, otherwise
... ...nope.

The X1 tactics are helpful, but I would prefer doing it in a 'competitiv' car for the fun not for the win. But that's a GT5 problem in general.

Please PD, I want to finish this game so MUCH! But i will not, I cant afford to buy a new ps3 at the moment, and I love this game! Make a Save feature.. please! Its not impossible, just create a feature - drive in PIT and save game, not after every 10 minutes, enable this thing lets say, after 4 hours, then again you got one more time to save after another 4 hours.. and so on, in 24 hours race option to save 6 times. GREAT!

As I said before, I and my 2 friends buyed PS3 on lounch day, in one store, both of my friends now have YLOD in one month (they didnt turn it off as much as I do), so it's going to be same for me if I try to win this game and not turning off my ps3 for 1 week like others do.. help us!

I think its absolutely ridiculous that you cant save mid-race. It's only a game, its not real life.

There is an easy way to complete this race.

1. Take your X1 2010 car
2. Chose any 24 hour race
3. Drive for 4 / 5 hours and leave your car somewhere near the track, so the other cars don't smash into it.
4. But don't pause the game. Just let clock count another 3 or 4 hours. During that time other cars will close that gap and overtake you.
5. So after only 4 hours of driving you had another 4 hours of resting and 8 on the clock. Repeat that for like 3 times and thats it. 12 hours or driving and 12 hours of parking your car.

But you have to remember one thing! You can win this race in 1st place but you will have to make your calculations Right. How many hours you can leave your X1 2010 and let other cars close that gap and how much time it would take you to catch them. This is important.

The X1 is not quite that fast, compared to the cars in the 24h LaSarthe event. I used it there race and I had to drive about 17 hours or so. I did it over a weekend. I was doing like 2:15's and they were running about ~3:30. But you have to pit a lot more then they do (fuel- the down side of 1500hp). But also add the traffic factor and the fact that the AI loves to move around as you are approaching them and you will be hitting them A LOT, especially on that lovely narrow back straight. It doesn't quite go as fast as you might first expect.
Sad thing is, you can't get a cool picture of the car at the end when its all dirty because the replay doesn't go that long.

It does not work. I tried it on the 4-Hour Nurburgring Endurance.

I did one lap, 25 behind the leader.

Credits: 16,000
Experience: 7,000

So, when you're doing a time based Endurance and grinding, you'll want to do as many laps as possible (I assume) and if you need to do something else, you're probably better off pausing.

It wasn't exactly promised but at the E3 that GTP was onsite, I remember the article stating that Endurance races were to have a save option. I was quite shocked to find out it didn't. But then again there is alot of other stuff missing.

Endurance races are not for everyone. I love them. Its a challenge to see how many times you can lap cars while building on your lap times and perfecting corners. I wouldn't use the X1 even if I had it though. That's not even remotely a race. A car that can lap another within the other car's first lap just its fun. Its to arcade-ish for me.

I was at level 35 on both A and B spec and my progress was 97% and on the day of the 1.5 update BAAANG i got the ylod , I tried to fix my ps3 for the forth time like i always do but it didn't work , My new ps3 will arrive tomorrow and i have to start from the beginning becuase i didn't had the chance to backup my save file , a sad story isn't it.

well Im now 88% in this game, and Im trying to get all gold I can, Im level 28, so far no big problems, still having problems with some Challenges, but I will continue to practise and I think I will manage to end it at 95%. And Im trying to get Plantinum GT5 throphy, but I WILL NOT, play 24 H endurance races on my first and only, old Fat 60GB PS3.. So that means, I have to risk my PS3 with YLOD to complete this game? If thats going to happen I will be very, very disappointed and angry. I hope alot PD will think twice and fix this by creating a SAVE GAME option while racing or doing PIT stop, so we all can complete this game without burning to death our PS3's.

Will never play any of that events till there comes an save option... Totally senseless what PD is doing there... Let your PS3 run for days or weeks, to complete only 1 race

I love the endurance races. I'll be doing the 24 hour races with some friends over a weekend during these Christmas holidays.

The hdd is fine but it's useless if you didn't made a backup because it's encrypted and paired with the motherboard so using it on another ps3 will force you to format it.
