I have a Renault Clio for the latest Seasonal, and the closest I could get to the target PP of 450 was 449. No big deal. But after some racing it was up to 450, and a little bit more and it disqualified itself at 451.

A little percentage reduction in the engine department brought it back into line, but what's happening here? It was a new car at 449, so are bearings wearing in and freeing up?

I did some searching of the GT5 forum, but can't find an answer.

Thanks in advance!

It's the usual GT thing of the power increasing over time. If you run the car in it'll gain power, then once the oil goes bad it goes back down again until you change it. Once it's done a huge distance you'll have the option to rebuild the engine.

It will level out after about 200 miles per car. Best thing to do when using a new car is do an oil change straight away, then use the car. After 200 miles the PP shown will be it's peak PP, before any mods that you may do.

Thank you both very much for the explanations. It all makes sense. I'd figured out that after some time an oil change would restore power, but I did not expect the boost in PP. That's a bonus, I guess.

I like the suggestion to drive 200 miles before modding the car.

Another question:-
I'm assuming it's good to avoid having to artificially reduce the power to trim the PP? In my experimentation with that control, taken to extreme levels the power curve can have a long flat spot, and the torque curve nosedives at the beginning of the flat spot. Which is what I'd expect, but I'm thinking that narrowing the peak torque band is not a good thing, and would lead to the need for more gear changes. Your opinions?

Depends on the car, if it's fully tuned but you limit it you'll normally end up with less power than if you limited it and took all the tuning parts off. Usually tuning then limiting the power gives a huge flat power curve and more peak torque than before - I'd just try it both ways and see if it makes much of a difference in the car you're driving.

I started noticing it too , right after a race it rejects the car and i have to detune the car or increase weight , i never knew the car gains power as you race it, what else is hidden in gt 5 lol

A new car, unless bought at the OCD will increase by 5% when it reaches 300 km (186.3 miles) of driving. I believe it's a linear gain, increasing by 1% every 60 km. It will hold this max power with regular oil changed and start dropping at 5,000 km (3,105.6 miles.) OCD cars start at the break-in power.

Just adjust the engine limiter as needed.

Rebuild the engine at 5,000 km. Someone else posted the engine can be rebuilt to full power up to the 10,000 km point.
