What about PS cloud? Couldn't sony setup something where you upload your saves to their servers for backup. It's still linked to your PSN and only you can DL it when logged into your account. This way you can have your saves on any PS3 but only when logged in to your account.

I don't feel like paying for a feature that can be easily solved by using a usb stick or a memory card... :ouch:

Well since Kaz announced it on his official twitter i would say it's pretty reliable.

If that is true then I may be the happiest man on the (GT)Planet! My 60g Fat died last night (see other thread).

I can get it repaired and transfer over the data, starting off at level 19. I hope you're right.

Kaz Tweets!

自分のセーブデータを他のストレージへバックアップする・・・12月下旬のアップデートで可能になります。

Updates will be available in late December to back up your saved data to another storage.
I read this recently as well. As a major critic of this 'flaw' I will clap my hands and say well done when this is delivered.

Just been twitered by the PlayStationTeam

"PlayStationTEAM Jakesplace
Gran Turismo 5: A New Update is InBound Later this December [Including Configuration Options for Mechanical Damage & Save Backups]"

Awesome surprise. I didn't have much hope that they would do this since no other developer ever changed this for as far as I know.

I really hope they will fix the online servers to because I still havent been able to log in since the release. I'm also afraid that my laptimes aren't saved because of this. Does anybody know if there's something I can do to get online?

Question. If we do a backup, using the backup utility. Does it back our save game up? So, we can restore it should our hdd get corrupt? I think my install got corrupted. Im going to delete it and reinstall it. But Im backing up my ps3 as a whole first. Can the saves be backed up with the backup functionality on the ps3?

^^ Αctually I am asking the same thing with the above friend... i want to upgrade my HDD...using backup utility of the PS3, will the GT5 save file work on the new installed HDD?

I am asking because even with backup utility on the SAME PS3 but a different HDD (due to upgrade) some save files do not work. Examples are KZ2 and LBP... so we need to be sure about this... does GT5 transfer properly when you upgrade just your HDD??

Yes, the backup utility will restore the copy protected game saves but only on the same system.

thank you so much for answering this, you bring my hopes up, but are you 100% sure of that? I am sorry for asking again, but some people dont know that even by doing all this some save protected files still dont work. (KZ2, LBP) Of course I am talking about the same system.

I only need to know specifically if GT5 will not have any problems, cause I have invested a lot of time in it and I really dont want to see all this go to waste.

Well, at least it worked for me ( i can't remember for what games though) and it's also stated in the official manual that locked game saves can't be restored on another system.

And in worst case, you can always put back your old HDD until they remove the copy protection 👍

that is my question, if you can simply use your old HDD in your new or fixed ps3, what is the issue?

cant you use your old hdd in a new ps3? or does it need to be reformatted?

It is unfortunate that we are unable to backup GT5. It would be good if PD would patch this allowing us to back up our game. It would be very frustrating if anyone was to loose their game progress.

I wonder if we would be able to use a utility like Norton Ghost to create an image of the drive. It would be a pain to have to remove the PS3 HD install it into a PC every time you wanted to back it up but it should work. I have bootable version of Ghost that I could try this with.

If you put your HDD in another PS3, it will be automatically formatted.

My PS3 just broke, keeps turning itself off but my question is if I get a new PS3 and I put in my old PS3 HD, could I use the GT5 save still?

If not, would the removal of copy protection work to remedy this or will it only apply to saves that can be accessed?

SIGNED for transfer between PS3 machines (and/or to PC for backup. preferably online backup service). NOT SIGNED for transfer between accounts.

I love the fact its in because it means that people wont be able to simply download a 100% savegame and essentially cheat the system. The point about backups is irrelevant because if my PS3 (old 60gig but with a 500GB hard drive in it) ever YLODs I'll just get a new slimline and slap my 500GB hard drive in it and carry all playing. that would work right?

Come on, what if your hdd fails? It's insane. I have more than 100G in my 500G fat ps3 (changed the hdd from 80G). Doing a full backup to backup the GT5 save is insane. Plus if it's pd3 that breaks down, I'm stranded.

This is a massive issue and it needs a whole lot more attention if we're to get it resolved.

I'm perfectly fine with the saves being linked to my PSN account, but we absolutely must be allowed to back them up to an external device.

It's only a matter of time before people start to lose saves that they've put hundreds of hours of time into.

When PD start having messages with enraged people telling them they invested 500 hours to get such and such car and their hdd or ps3 failed, they'll do something. There'll be people so furious they'll threat to sue them. They must do something. It's not like MW2 or Uncharted 2, where the typical single mode is short (8 or 12 hours). We're talking hundreds of hours.

As for cheaters who get 100% saves, I really don't care about them. That just ruins the experience. But the save could be tied to psn id.

how is every 2nd poster in here missing the statement from kaz that we'll be able to able to backup savegames by the end of this month ^_o

Call us cheaters, call us whatever you'd like. The option to make the game save first of all able to back up like any other game is important.

Second; in this game, it will be very important to make the save file public at one time or another. Let me tell you, 999 out of 1000 players cannot complete the out-of-this-world difficult sebastian vettel challenge for the x1, and that leaves one option...

leveling from 30-40, which is basically pointless. Why you may ask..
Most of the prize cars you get are mediocre, and you only get them once, so you can't sell again for profit. The prize money for the effort and time put into to those endurance races are horrendeous. No other word for it.

Most of the endurance races you will have to do at least twice, or maybe even 3 times to level up on, and going up ABOVE 30, it is just mind-blowing.

To put it into comparison, for me at least.. the effort I presume getting to level 40 A-spec takes, for those of you who have tried world of warcraft, is like getting 10 different characters to level 80.

A slap in the face to even the "above-average" gamer.

No one ENJOYS doing 24 hours races twice, or even more.

And yes, the ultimate goal is to get the elusive X1.

Can't wait for someone to crack or whatever the game save system, so that all of won't have to torture ourselves to get the X1 at one point.

That car is out-of-this-world crazy btw, just from trying it in the vettel challenge.

Either memory stick/other physical media or an online back-up linked to your PSN (harsh on non-internet enabled players) I'll sign for.

As long as this 100% game save won't give you every trophy on the game when it's loaded onto the PS3 then you'll be able to tell a fake online in an instant. The people who do this will also know deep down that they've achieved nothing themselves, so I couldn't care less, I've YLOD'd before and lost everything, bad s*%t would happen if I lost a 80%+ GT5 save.

Its already been confirmed you will be able to back up saves, patch coming out late December.
