When my battery was disconnected, it meant I needed to put in a radio code for my radio because it had been reset.

However the radio is a Peugeot one, it isn't original, wasn't, so the code associated with my VIN doesn't work, so I've decided to replace it.

I'm hoping there's another Peugeot owner here who reads this and possibly could help me, I want to know if I replace the radio, will some functions currently disabled on my car work again?

Currently other than the radio/cd player not working, the instruments don't light up, as well, the clock and temperature gauges don't work either.

It's only a 4 digit code, so yes, I could try the other 9,998 combinations, but radio only lets you enter 3 codes before locking out for 1-2 hours.

So far I've bought a kit which includes some removal keys, a fascia surround and two adapters, one for newer radios, the other for the aerial.

If anyone has a Peugeot _06 or Citroen from a similar era (1994-2002ish), and could help me out, I'd really appreciate it.

I should check your fuses. If they are all ok, you have just found out why Peugeot has a questionable reputation.

Hi, I'm guessing you've misunderstood my OP, the fuses are extremely unlikely to be the problem.

The car runs perfectly fine, no problems after 12 years on the road and serviced regularly, its a semi-modern Peugeot so in practice, it's more reliable than they might've had a reputation for being in the 70s and 80s.

My clutch cable finally snapped, as they all do after long usages, to repair this, the battery needed to be disconnected.

As a result of this normally, when the original radio is still in the car, you call Peugeot up, give them your VIN, and your original radio code activates your original radio. I don't have the original radio, therefore my original radio code doesn't work with this new radio (still a Peugeot model).

Thank you for bumping my thread, but if you don't have a Peugeot or Citroen from a similar era, I doubt you could assist me with this problem.

:D

I saw this:

And figured that you might want to check a fuse. I'll bet that your cigarette lighter isn't working either.

You're right, I must've assumed two problems were connected when they weren't. Around the same time, I overloaded my cigarette lighter when I plugged in a double adapter, charging my phone, gps and powering my fm transmitter... maybe there's a couple of blown fuses, I'll investigate.

Thanks 👍 :)

If its not the original radio then newer cars have to be taken to a dealer and get the computer re-programmed to work with the new radio, regardless of where it's from. This can cost $50 or more. It's unlikely it's any issue with the car itself. Don't ask me why this is, it's stupid I know.

Have you tried contacting the Peugeot dealer? They may have a master code or a way to reset the code for you.

This is what I was getting at. The computer has a code in it's sytem and if it doesn't match up to the new radio installed then it essentially locks it out and you won't be able to use it until the code is reset.

I don't think it's that new tbh, I contacted them, and it did seem to be linked to a specific VIN, so my deduction is that this radio came from a donor peugeot, and the VIN from that car would be linked to the code for this radio - it's an 'ok' radio/cd player, but I've bought the tooling to replace it, so barring the code being on the radio itself, I think I will replace it with one that can pipe in aux 3.5mm.

Fuses did fix the cigarette lighter, and even the instrument backlighting, its great it has spare fuses in the box so I can fix the problem then replace the spares later.

The clock and temperature gauges still aren't working, and the fuses controlling them also control other components that are working, so I think I score 33% on my diagnosis skills here, if, the radio code is linked to them, but it wasn't linked to the other issues so a big thanks to Dennisch! :D :D

You'd be suprised. I'd take it just to be sure.
