I can understand what you mean by that, but imagine being restricted to the house or only 100 feet away from the house because of phone calls from friends or parents. See where I'm coming from? And now I can go hit the skate park more often for longer. ;)

Well, i know i use it in case after school i can't get picked up, or just need to call my parents and friends. Since i don't have minutes, i use my cell as my own phone line.

And what real good does text messaging do for anyone (other than give the phone comapny one more thing to charge exhoritant prices for)?

Me too! We're kindred spirits. I only use the text messaging feature; I haven't actually placed a call in at least a month.
 
I have my phone incase I ever need to be reached, meaning I can get out more and now that I've got my own car it'll be a lot more handy as I'll be out more.

It's also a privacy thing, you can talk to a friend without a curious mother picking up the other phone (:irked:).

I txt all the time, meeting with friends, talking to them etc.

I also have it if I'm ever out and get called up by work too.
